0:00:56 > 0:00:58So, Simon, what can you tell us about Laurie's great-great-uncle?
0:00:58 > 0:01:01We've been able to find out that Joshua Stevens was one of eight
0:01:02 > 0:01:04children, he enlisted in the spring of 1916 into the 8th Battalion
0:01:04 > 0:01:07of the Worcestershire Regiment.
0:01:07 > 0:01:09He would have headed out to France, where he arrived in time to take
0:01:09 > 0:01:11part in the Battle of the Somme.
0:01:12 > 0:01:13He would have spent a lot of the winter in very uncomfortable,
0:01:13 > 0:01:16unpleasant conditions, experiencing all of the worst
0:01:16 > 0:01:19that the weather and the Germans could throw at him.
0:01:20 > 0:01:22Laurie, do you think you could handle those conditions?
0:01:22 > 0:01:23No, I don't think I could actually.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26It sounds horrible.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28But like millions of soldiers fighting on the Somme
0:01:29 > 0:01:31during the First World War, Laurie's great-great-uncle
0:01:31 > 0:01:33didn't make it home.
0:01:34 > 0:01:35He died whilst fighting here on the 24th of
0:01:36 > 0:01:39April 1917, aged 20.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42I'm proud of what my great-great-uncle did.
