0:03:02 > 0:03:05and Wales, and attitudes then were very different.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Although most people are here to celebrate and

0:03:20 > 0:03:23have a great time I've come up for a different reason,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26to meet my Uncle Andrew who took part in one of the very

0:03:26 > 0:03:27first Pride rallies.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30I want to find out what his life was like back then.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33What was it like for you back then when you first came out?

0:03:33 > 0:03:40It was, in one way, very lonely because I only knew one person who

0:03:40 > 0:03:44was gay and I was already 25.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46People hid themselves.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48You didn't know.

0:03:48 > 0:03:53How do did you feel coming out in society when it wasn't legalised?

0:03:53 > 0:03:58Most of us who wanted to lead ordinarily lives were aware we

0:03:58 > 0:04:00might end up in prison.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04Over a thousand of us a year were being sent to prison.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06Did anyone say anything to you?

0:04:06 > 0:04:12I was refused a job once when they found out...

0:04:12 > 0:04:15Well, they didn't find out I was gay, I told them I was.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18One existing member of the staff said, I am not working in

0:04:18 > 0:04:21the same office as somebody who is gay.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24They withdrew the offer of a job.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Have people's attitudes towards being gay and the LGBT

0:04:28 > 0:04:31community changed?

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Yes, they have.

0:04:34 > 0:04:35Depends where you are.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38They haven't changed if you are in many countries

0:04:38 > 0:04:39around the world.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41But they have changed...

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Britain has done very well.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46What advice would you give to people coming out now?

0:04:46 > 0:04:53I would say there is a warm and welcoming world out here

0:04:53 > 0:04:57for you as you come out.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00I'd never really heard my uncle talk about his life before.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03It was a really lovely for me to get to know his

0:05:03 > 0:05:07experiences and what he has been through.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09So proud of everything he has done.
