0:00:37 > 0:00:40Jenny went to Sweden to catch up with him to see

0:00:40 > 0:00:42what life is like now.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Meet Kava.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47He is ten years old and likes football, music and bowling.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51And, like millions of kids across Sweden, he's off to school.

0:00:51 > 0:00:57But 18 months ago, Kava's life was very different.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01Kava and his family were forced to leave Syria because of a war that

0:01:01 > 0:01:05has been going on there since 2011.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Thousands of people have died and around 4 million people,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12like Kava, have had to leave the country to get

0:01:12 > 0:01:12away from the fighting.

0:01:12 > 0:01:17Many people have made long journeys to countries in Europe

0:01:17 > 0:01:21because they think they will be able to have a better life there.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24TRANSLATION: We left when it was evening and we were very

0:01:24 > 0:01:27scared on the road.

0:01:27 > 0:01:33It was completely dark.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Kava and his family travelled from Syria to Turkey

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and then got on a boat

0:01:38 > 0:01:41to make a dangerous journey across the sea to a Greek island

0:01:41 > 0:01:44called Lesbos.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46TRANSLATION: We eventually took a small boat across

0:01:46 > 0:01:48the sea to Europe.

0:01:48 > 0:01:53And we were very terrified.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56Newsround first met Kava in 2015, shortly after he had

0:01:56 > 0:01:59arrived from Lesbos.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02TRANSLATION: I want to see my brother who lives in Sweden.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05He is already there and I want to join him.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07I miss him.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10And he got his wish.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12After getting a ferry to mainland Greece, Kava's family

0:02:12 > 0:02:17travelled overland by bus all the way to Sweden.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Kava and his family have been living in this very snowy town

0:02:20 > 0:02:21for more than a year now.

0:02:21 > 0:02:25And Kava has even started going to his local school.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28So I have come to find out what his life is like now.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30TRANSLATION: I like the school.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31The school is good.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33There is no violence here.

0:02:33 > 0:02:36It is good here.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38I like Sweden.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42I like mathematics and doing my lessons.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46And writing on a computer, laptop or an iPad.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48I want to write.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52Learning Swedish was difficult at first but later it

0:02:52 > 0:02:54became easier, very easy.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58I have friends.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00They are very kind.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04They are good.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07My friends and I chase each other, run around

0:03:07 > 0:03:11and we slide our mattresses on the snow.

0:03:11 > 0:03:17Is there anything you miss about life with

0:03:17 > 0:03:18your friends in Syria?

0:03:18 > 0:03:20TRANSLATION: My friends are not in Syria any more.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22They went to Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23They are not in Syria.

0:03:23 > 0:03:28I would like to meet them again.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Although Kava is happy to be settled

0:03:31 > 0:03:34with his family here in Sweden, I want to find out how

0:03:34 > 0:03:40he feels about having to leave his home in Syria.

0:03:40 > 0:03:45TRANSLATION: In our old home, we used to play.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49We had a laptop, we had a large house with a large

0:03:49 > 0:03:52garden when we used to play.

0:03:52 > 0:03:56But I don't remember much else.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00TRANSLATION: When the war broke out, everybody went in

0:04:00 > 0:04:01different directions.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04Some left their mothers, others their fathers

0:04:04 > 0:04:05or their brothers.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Not many people stay together.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12TRANSLATION: We stuck together and held each other closely

0:04:12 > 0:04:15so none of us would be left behind.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17That is why we remained holding each other so strongly.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20What are your hopes for the future?

0:04:20 > 0:04:23TRANSLATION: Now I am with my brother, sister

0:04:23 > 0:04:24and parents here together.

0:04:24 > 0:04:25We are very happy.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27It is nice here.
