0:00:38 > 0:00:41Jenny went to Sweden to catch up with him to see

0:00:41 > 0:00:43what life is like now.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Meet Kava.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49He is ten years old and likes football, music and bowling.

0:00:49 > 0:00:54And, like millions of kids across Sweden, he's off to school.

0:00:54 > 0:01:00But 18 months ago, Kava's life was very different.

0:01:00 > 0:01:04Kava and his family were forced to leave Syria because of a war that

0:01:04 > 0:01:05has been going on there since 2011.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Thousands of people have died and around 4 million people,

0:01:08 > 0:01:11like Kava, have had to leave the country to get away

0:01:11 > 0:01:13from the fighting.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17Many people have made long journeys to countries in Europe

0:01:17 > 0:01:23because they think they will be able to have a better life there.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25TRANSLATION: We left when it was evening and we were very

0:01:25 > 0:01:27scared on the road.

0:01:27 > 0:01:33It was completely dark.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37Kava and his family travelled from Syria to Turkey and then got

0:01:37 > 0:01:41on a boat to make a dangerous journey across the sea to a Greek

0:01:41 > 0:01:45island called Lesbos.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48TRANSLATION: We eventually took a small boat across the sea to Europe.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52And we were very terrified.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Newsround first met Kava in 2015, shortly after he had

0:01:56 > 0:02:00arrived from Lesbos.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02TRANSLATION: I want to see my brother who lives in Sweden.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05He is already there and I want to join him.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07I miss him.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10And he got his wish.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13After getting a ferry to mainland Greece, Kava's family

0:02:13 > 0:02:17travelled overland by bus all the way to Sweden.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Kava and his family have been living in this very snowy town

0:02:20 > 0:02:22for more than a year now.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25And Kava has even started going to his local school.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29So I have come to find out what his life is like now.

0:02:29 > 0:02:30TRANSLATION: I like the school.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32The school is good.

0:02:32 > 0:02:33There is no violence here.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35It is good here.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38I like Sweden.

0:02:38 > 0:02:43I like mathematics and doing my lessons.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45And writing on a computer, laptop or an iPad.

0:02:45 > 0:02:50I want to write.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Learning Swedish was difficult at first but later it

0:02:52 > 0:02:56became easier, very easy.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58I have friends.

0:02:58 > 0:02:59They are very kind.

0:02:59 > 0:03:04They are good.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07My friends and I chase each other, run around and we slide our

0:03:07 > 0:03:11mattresses on the snow.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Is there anything you miss about life with your friends in Syria?

0:03:15 > 0:03:18TRANSLATION: My friends are not in Syria any more.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20They went to Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23They are not in Syria.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25I would like to meet them again.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29CHEERING

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Although Kava is happy to be settled

0:03:32 > 0:03:35with his family here in Sweden, I want to find out how

0:03:35 > 0:03:39he feels about having to leave his home in Syria.

0:03:39 > 0:03:47TRANSLATION: In our old home, we used to play.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51We had a laptop, we had a large house with a large garden

0:03:51 > 0:03:54where we used to play.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57But I don't remember much else.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59TRANSLATION: When the war broke out, everybody went

0:03:59 > 0:04:03in different directions.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05Some left their mothers, others their fathers or their brothers.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09Not many people stay together.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12TRANSLATION: We stuck together and held each other closely so none

0:04:12 > 0:04:14of us would be left behind.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16That is why we remained holding each other so strongly.

0:04:16 > 0:04:20What are your hopes for the future?

0:04:20 > 0:04:22TRANSLATION: Now I am with my brother, sister

0:04:22 > 0:04:23and parents here together.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25We are very happy.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27It is nice here.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31I wish to continue going to school and study and become

0:04:31 > 0:04:34something one day.
