0:00:52 > 0:00:54Scientists discovered that they are a new species.
0:00:54 > 0:01:04They are different from other great apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees.
0:01:05 > 0:01:11Until now it was thought there were two species of orangutan,
0:01:11 > 0:01:12the Sumatran and the Borneon.
0:01:12 > 0:01:22But this species is another.
0:01:22 > 0:01:30The scientists found the species 20 years ago but have it to study them
0:01:30 > 0:01:34close to reveal their secrets.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37Lots of tiny but important differences tell them apart,
0:01:37 > 0:01:41the sound of their call, what they eat and they look
0:01:41 > 0:01:44different, which the researchers can measure by looking closely
0:01:44 > 0:01:49and comparing size of skulls to other orangutan species.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51It is an amaidsing break through.
0:01:51 > 0:01:56There are only seven species, so adding one to the small
0:01:56 > 0:02:00list is spectacular.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03But as they have been discovered, the animals now go to the top
0:02:03 > 0:02:12of the list of the most endangered species in the world.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14Only 800 exist, conservationists hope that now people know
