:00:28. > :00:31.Afternoon all, thanks for stopping by. Ricky and Hayley here with the

:00:31. > :00:35.latest from Newsround. Coming up this Thursday... See what it takes

:00:35. > :00:40.to make big bucks while you're still in school. And take a look at

:00:40. > :00:45.the world's most expensive fish. But first, we've been talking about

:00:45. > :00:51.it all week, the wild weather sweeping across the UK. This week's

:00:51. > :00:53.storms have left a trail of destruction. Two people have died

:00:53. > :00:57.and thousands of families have had their gas and electricity supplies

:00:57. > :01:00.cut off. Trees have blown down and buildings have been damaged. Today

:01:00. > :01:03.I've been taking a look at how the weather's kept the nation gripped.

:01:03. > :01:07.Battered and bruised. There's not many places in Britain that have

:01:07. > :01:10.escaped this week's storms. In Scotland wind speeds hit 100mph.

:01:10. > :01:20.The Forth Road Bridge near Edinburgh closed after it began to

:01:20. > :01:26.

:01:26. > :01:30.sway. But right across the country the weather has been wreaking havoc.

:01:30. > :01:40.Traffic lights are out, shops are shuttered, businesses are having to

:01:40. > :01:40.

:01:40. > :01:44.cancel bookings. In England thousands of homes across the East

:01:44. > :01:47.and West Midland lost power too. Over in Wales the River Dee burst

:01:47. > :01:49.its banks and flooded. And in Norfolk a school closed after the

:01:49. > :01:52.bad weather caused damage to the roof. Engineers have been out

:01:52. > :01:55.trying to fix power lines but thousands of people are still stuck

:01:55. > :01:59.without electricity, that means no heating, no TV and no hot water.

:01:59. > :02:04.You switch on a kettle and have nothing, no electricity. It is

:02:04. > :02:08.awful. The clean up has now begun but there's a lot of work to be

:02:08. > :02:12.done. The winds have caused much damage, many trees have been torn

:02:12. > :02:16.down by the force of the weather. Forecasters say things will improve

:02:16. > :02:23.and by the end of the night the wind should ease away. Fingers

:02:23. > :02:33.crossed! Indeed! I am sick of it. We have some comments from you

:02:33. > :02:50.

:02:50. > :02:52.A thanks for those. Next, to a new bread of cunning canine! Rescue

:02:52. > :02:55.dogs can be vital in finding people after earthquakes and other

:02:55. > :02:58.disasters and now they've had a high-tech makeover. This guy's been

:02:58. > :03:05.fitted with the latest in wireless camera technology so humans can get

:03:05. > :03:08.a dog's eye view of places they can't reach. Not only that, the

:03:08. > :03:12.device even includes a two way communication system so rescuers

:03:12. > :03:15.can speak to whoever's been trapped... Amazing. Now when you

:03:15. > :03:18.think of pirates you probably think of the likes of Jack Sparrow and

:03:18. > :03:23.Captain Hook. But modern day piracy is a really serious problem in some

:03:23. > :03:26.parts of the world. So much so that today a group of politicians is

:03:26. > :03:28.asking the government to clear up rules about what people attacked by

:03:28. > :03:38.pirate ships can do to defend themselves. Watch out for flashes

:03:38. > :03:39.

:03:39. > :03:42.in this report. Wild outfits, treasure maps and walking the plank.

:03:42. > :03:45.That's Horrible Histories' take on old school pirates from the 1700s.

:03:46. > :03:48.But now the real threat is here, off the coast of Somalia where 90%

:03:48. > :03:53.of hijackings took place in 2010. Organised gangs attack ships and

:03:53. > :03:59.hold people hostage, demanding cash for their safe release. And with an

:03:59. > :04:02.average ransom demand of 5 million, it's a serious business. The piracy

:04:02. > :04:05.problem is so big that back in October The Prime Minister himself

:04:05. > :04:08.gave permission for ships to have guards equipped with guns on board

:04:08. > :04:12.for protection. But the people who run the ships say it's not clear

:04:12. > :04:15.how far they can go. And a report out today by a group of politicians

:04:15. > :04:17.says there should be clearer rules on how much force ships can

:04:17. > :04:23.actually use, including whether they can shoot pirate ships down.

:04:23. > :04:27.But not everyone thinks having guns on board is a good idea. This

:04:27. > :04:30.couple were held hostage by Somali pirates for a year back in 2009 but

:04:30. > :04:35.they say bringing guns back to the high seas won't work. The decision

:04:35. > :04:40.to allow ships to carry arms is a step back towards the 17th century

:04:40. > :04:46.where it was a requirement for merchant vessels to be armed. It is

:04:46. > :04:55.an admission of failure by national and international government.

:04:55. > :04:58.people agree. They say unless more countries join Britain in trying to

:04:58. > :05:01.do something about it the problem of piracy will only get worse.

:05:01. > :05:03.some right royal news about your future Queen. Prince William's

:05:03. > :05:07.other half Kate Middleton has announced what she'll be doing with

:05:07. > :05:10.her time in the next few months. The Duchess of Cambridge has chosen

:05:10. > :05:12.four organisations to be patron of. They include one that works with

:05:12. > :05:16.the National Portrait Gallery and a children's hospice. She'll also do

:05:16. > :05:20.volunteer work for the Scouts. how would you like a bit of extra

:05:20. > :05:23.pocket money in your purse in 2012? Well, what would you do if I told

:05:23. > :05:26.you, you can get it? And not just by butttering up your Mum and Dad!

:05:26. > :05:32.Joe's been meeting some kids who are turning pennies into pounds,

:05:32. > :05:40.all while they're still at school. Business isn't always about grown

:05:40. > :05:49.ups in posh suits and shiny shoes. All over the UK there are kids

:05:49. > :05:53.starting their own businesses right now. Emily's kept chickens since

:05:53. > :05:56.she was four but last summer she had more eggs than her family could

:05:56. > :05:59.eat, so she hatched a plan to get some extra pocket money. We're

:05:59. > :06:03.getting about 15 a month. In the summer when the hens are laying

:06:03. > :06:06.more eggs we should get a bit more, maybe 20. We want to try to get

:06:06. > :06:10.some more hens so we should get lots more hopefully. Emily's just

:06:10. > :06:14.won a local business award but it hasn't always been an easy run.

:06:14. > :06:17.found all our hens had been got by a fox but we got some more so I'm

:06:17. > :06:20.happy now. Emily's business relies on good farming, being a good

:06:20. > :06:26.salesman, and also lots of these. We're about to meet someone who

:06:26. > :06:29.makes his money from lots of these. Computer whizz George is one of the

:06:29. > :06:35.youngerst people in the world to invent a smartphone app. Like Emily

:06:36. > :06:39.he started when he was just 11. His free app has already been

:06:39. > :06:44.downloaded all over the world, but his aim is to start selling it for

:06:44. > :06:48.69p a go. As soon as you load it up, you just get a blank screen, then

:06:48. > :06:53.if you pick it up, it's like nice and simple but it can be quite

:06:53. > :06:59.effective. Does this cost money? my dad paid for it, as long as I

:06:59. > :07:02.pay it back because I can make money from it. Emily and George are

:07:02. > :07:05.examples of kids getting stuck in early. And some business people

:07:05. > :07:09.think it's kids like these who are going to help make money for

:07:09. > :07:15.Britain. At this age many people say you're at your most innovative,

:07:15. > :07:18.you're coming up with fresh ideas which counts for a lot. It may be a

:07:18. > :07:24.hard slog but when whizzkids like Emily and George see the results,

:07:24. > :07:30.they say it's a good feeling. can't describe it. It's just a

:07:30. > :07:38.fantastic feeling. I used to try to sell chocolate bars to the people

:07:38. > :07:42.who worked with my parents. Good entrepreneur! Fat fish news now and

:07:42. > :07:45.I'm not sure how much your local chip shop charges for a piece but I

:07:45. > :07:48.bet it's not as expensive as this bluefin tuna. This fish has just

:07:48. > :07:52.been sold for three quarters of a million dollars in Tokyo. It's

:07:52. > :07:56.known for making the finest sushi in the world and it's so expensive
