:00:00. > :00:00.Good afternoon everyone - it's Martin here with Newsround

:00:00. > :00:09.for you this Tuesday afternoon, and here's what's on the way.

:00:10. > :00:14.Find out how you count up all the animals in a zoo.

:00:15. > :00:28.We've heard a lot about the long and dangerous journeys that many

:00:29. > :00:32.refugee children have been taking to get to Europe.

:00:33. > :00:35.Many of these children are travelling alone.

:00:36. > :00:38.Today a group of politicians and charities say that more of them

:00:39. > :00:42.should be helped to come and live in the UK.

:00:43. > :00:47.Over the past year we've seen thousands of people

:00:48. > :00:51.leaving their homes in countries like Syria in the Middle east

:00:52. > :00:54.where war has destroyed towns and cities.

:00:55. > :00:57.They've travelled huge distances in search of a more a peaceful

:00:58. > :01:03.Many of them are children, who have even ended up doing some

:01:04. > :01:09.Like 11-year-old Safid, who spoke to Newsround last year.

:01:10. > :01:12.He got separated from his dad as they travelled

:01:13. > :01:17.It took him a whole year to get to northern France,

:01:18. > :01:23.There are thousands of other children in the same situation.

:01:24. > :01:26.The UK Government has already said it will take in.

:01:27. > :01:29.20,000 Syrian refugees from camps in neighbouring countries

:01:30. > :01:36.But a group of politicians thinks the government should be helping

:01:37. > :01:44.children who have already made it to Europe.

:01:45. > :01:52.And on and what we are saying is that our country, the UK, should

:01:53. > :01:53.allow 3000 of these children to come and live here in safety.

:01:54. > :01:58.I've come to this school to find out what some of you think about this?

:01:59. > :02:07.The UK right now, more or less, is his fool. Countries like Germany

:02:08. > :02:12.have taken in over 1 million people and we should be able to match that

:02:13. > :02:17.and help out. The benefits would be they would have a better future, but

:02:18. > :02:24.the problems would be that there would not be enough room in the

:02:25. > :02:28.schools. I think politicians should make Syria safer for the children. I

:02:29. > :02:32.would tell the politicians to care about the world, not just the UK,

:02:33. > :02:37.because even though they are Prime Minister of the UK they should do it

:02:38. > :02:43.for the entire country to show that we care. The Government has told

:02:44. > :02:44.Newsnight there helping three home vulnerable refugee children from

:02:45. > :02:46.Syria. And they also told us

:02:47. > :02:49.that they are giving money to create Nasa have confirmed that British

:02:50. > :02:53.astronaut Tim Peake will be taking part in a space walk next week

:02:54. > :02:56.on Friday 15th January as part of his mission on board

:02:57. > :02:59.the International Space Station. It's the start of a brand new year

:03:00. > :03:02.so lots of places are trying to catch up on those

:03:03. > :03:06.all important jobs. Today I've been to meet

:03:07. > :03:08.the team at Chester Zoo, who've got a pretty big

:03:09. > :03:11.task on their hands. It's a busy job being a zookeeper,

:03:12. > :03:15.the animals need feeding, But today is especially busy

:03:16. > :03:21.because every mammal, reptile, bird, fish and bug

:03:22. > :03:35.is being counted by hand by a team It is a really exciting day every

:03:36. > :03:40.year. Obviously we see the breaths and the animal coming and going

:03:41. > :03:44.throughout the year, but today release that today's release at him

:03:45. > :03:46.because we know that what we got. It is with the exciting but it can be a

:03:47. > :03:46.challenge as well. It certainly is tricky and it's even

:03:47. > :03:50.busier this year because of a couple There are now over 15,000 creatures

:03:51. > :03:54.all great and small at Chester Zoo. Counting the bigger animals

:03:55. > :03:58.like elephants and rhinos isn't too difficult but how do you count

:03:59. > :04:10.hundreds of butterflies, It can be difficult and sometimes we

:04:11. > :04:13.take for those of inclusion help us count them but we sit and count each

:04:14. > :04:17.one by looking in the enclosure or we can do a senseless, for example,

:04:18. > :04:21.for the butterflies were recorded butterflies released into the house.

:04:22. > :04:25.We have a rust -- rough estimate of what we've got and we go back and

:04:26. > :04:34.confirm everything we've got on paper. It will take it well, so if

:04:35. > :04:40.might add better crack on. One, two, three, four. One...

:04:41. > :04:42.More than 100 artists have been busy creating fantastic ice sculptures

:04:43. > :04:45.in China for an annual festival which opens today.

:04:46. > :04:48.Thousands are expected to visit the exhibits,

:04:49. > :04:52.which includes a 51 metre high castle.

:04:53. > :04:55.That's all from me and the Newsround team this afternoon.

:04:56. > :04:58.Ayshah will be back tomorrow morning at 7.40am.
