:00:00. > :00:12.Morning, you're live with Newsround. I'm Leah with today's top stories -

:00:13. > :00:19.coming up: Storms of wind, rain and massive waves are still battering

:00:20. > :00:23.parts of the UK. And, back on dry land - the mystery

:00:24. > :00:33.of the Mexican castaway lost at sea for over a year!

:00:34. > :00:35.First though, the terrible weather conditions continue to batter parts

:00:36. > :00:39.of Britain, with storms causing chaos in the south west of England

:00:40. > :00:42.and parts of Wales overnight. Gusts of up to 70 miles an hour were

:00:43. > :00:45.recorded and thousands of homes are still without power after the fierce

:00:46. > :00:48.winds brought down trees and electricity cables. Power companies

:00:49. > :00:52.are now fighting to get supplies back on.

:00:53. > :00:55.We want to hear from you. Have you been affected by the storms

:00:56. > :00:59.overnight or over the past weeks? Have you seen trees blown down or

:01:00. > :01:03.houses damaged? Is your school closed? Head to the website and let

:01:04. > :01:09.us know. Send us pictures or videos if you have them, or let us know if

:01:10. > :01:12.we can chat to you later today. Next the Syrian government has

:01:13. > :01:16.missed a deadline to remove chemical weapons from the country. A deal had

:01:17. > :01:19.been agreed to ship out dangerous chemicals more than a month ago. And

:01:20. > :01:23.today another batch was supposed to have been removed. But authorities

:01:24. > :01:27.say it's been delayed because of bad weather and problems with security.

:01:28. > :01:29.It's now expected to be completed by the beginning of March. America

:01:30. > :01:35.wants more to be done to get things sorted.

:01:36. > :01:39.Next to a story of survival that's amazed and surprised people around

:01:40. > :01:43.the world. Two years ago a fisherman from Mexico says he went on a

:01:44. > :01:46.fishing trip with a friend. 13 months later, he was found on a tiny

:01:47. > :01:56.island 8,000 miles from home. Nel has been looking into it.

:01:57. > :02:03.This man says he spent more than a year floating adrift in the middle

:02:04. > :02:07.of the ocean. He claims to have lost at sea but 13 months when a fishing

:02:08. > :02:13.trip went wrong. He is said to have eaten birds, fish and turtles he

:02:14. > :02:17.caught with his hands. The 37-year-old, who only speaks

:02:18. > :02:25.Spanish, said he left southern Mexico with a friend on a day trip

:02:26. > :02:29.to catch black tip shark -- sharks in 2012. Last week he washed up

:02:30. > :02:36.alone with a bushy beard eight thousand miles from home on a tiny

:02:37. > :02:40.Pacific island. TRANSLATION: The boat was bobbing up

:02:41. > :02:45.and down in the waves. I pushed myself away from the boat so it

:02:46. > :02:49.would not hit me in the head. When I got to the sure I was unable to

:02:50. > :02:56.walk. Some people have questioned whether it is possible to survive at

:02:57. > :03:00.the four that amount of time. He said his friend he was travelling

:03:01. > :03:03.with died many months ago, but there is no details how he died and how

:03:04. > :03:09.the boat got into trouble in the first place. He is now heading back

:03:10. > :03:13.to Mexico to be ready -- reunited with his family. It is not the first

:03:14. > :03:18.time people have been rescued off the Marshall Islands. In 2006, three

:03:19. > :03:21.fishermen had to be rescued after what they said nine months drifting

:03:22. > :03:28.across the Pacific Ocean. They survived on rainwater, birds and

:03:29. > :03:34.fish. Now you see tonnes of this stuff

:03:35. > :03:37.when you're by the coast - seaweed. But now doctors are looking into

:03:38. > :03:40.whether it could help fight infections. Teams at Cardiff and

:03:41. > :03:43.Swansea universities say it could help people who suffer from

:03:44. > :03:47.illnesses like Cystic Fibrosis because they believe elements of the

:03:48. > :03:48.seaweed could break down a sticky mucus that damages the body's

:03:49. > :03:51.organs. Cricket now and one of England's

:03:52. > :03:54.best ever star batsman Kevin Pietersen has played his last match

:03:55. > :03:57.for his country. Bosses announced yesterday that he'd been dropped for

:03:58. > :04:00.both the One Day tour of the West Indies which starts next month, and

:04:01. > :04:04.the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh. Those in charge say they need to

:04:05. > :04:08.rebuild the team after the disastrous Ashes tour of Australia.

:04:09. > :04:14.I don't think this is the moment. There is a World Cup, an Ashes

:04:15. > :04:17.series in 16 months. You need your best players. It is the wrong call

:04:18. > :04:23.at the wrong time for English cricket.

:04:24. > :04:26.Swansea have sacked their manager Michael Laudrup, even though he won

:04:27. > :04:29.the League Cup with them last season. But they are just two points

:04:30. > :04:33.above the Premier League relegation zone. Captain Garry Monk is in

:04:34. > :04:34.charge for now ahead of the weekend's massive clash with local

:04:35. > :04:38.rivals Cardiff. And, Fulham have been knocked out of

:04:39. > :04:41.the FA Cup by League One's Sheffield United. They lost 1-0 after this

:04:42. > :04:45.last minute, extra-time header, from Shaun Miller. The Blades will now

:04:46. > :04:50.play the winner of tonight's replay between Preston and Nottingham

:04:51. > :04:57.Forest. I will be back in about half an

:04:58. > :04:58.hour. We will be taking a closer look at these little fellas
