0:00:33 > 0:00:36The Silent Child by Rachel Shenton!

0:00:36 > 0:00:39This was the moment the team behind the film found out

0:00:39 > 0:00:45they'd won an Oscar!

0:00:45 > 0:00:50I made a promise to our six-year-old lead actress that I would find the

0:00:50 > 0:00:55speech and my hands are shaking so I apologise.

0:00:55 > 0:01:00So who is the six-year-old apologise.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03It's a story so happy it could have been the plot of a Hollywood movie.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Maisie hadn't even acted before, then her parents were told

0:01:06 > 0:01:09about the film looking for deaf children to star in it.

0:01:22 > 0:01:27And here are the nominees for Best live action Short film...

0:01:27 > 0:01:29This is the moment the film team found out they'd been

0:01:29 > 0:01:34nominated for an Oscar.

0:01:34 > 0:01:41My Nephew Emmitt, The Silent Child...

0:01:43 > 0:01:45And so, Maisie, along with her cuddly toy,

0:01:45 > 0:01:53made her way to LA to take her place as part of Hollywood history.

0:01:53 > 0:01:58When she got there she made sure she did all the important things.

0:01:58 > 0:02:03And last night was the big night.

0:02:03 > 0:02:09So how are they feeling about the big win?

0:02:09 > 0:02:13The film's writer, Rachel Shenton, says it's amazing to win,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16and she's so proud of the team behind the film for bringing

0:02:16 > 0:02:19the topic of deafness to a huge audience.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21She told us she's surprised Maisie managed to stay awake

0:02:21 > 0:02:24for the announcement because the ceremony was so late!

0:02:24 > 0:02:28But that she was shouting with excitement.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32What a fantastic achievement!

0:02:32 > 0:02:34Let's just hope Maisie wasn't too tired to join

0:02:34 > 0:02:38in with the celebrations.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Next, snow has caused problems across the UK,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43but it's a huge problem for those without homes, living

0:02:43 > 0:02:46on the streets.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Newsround caught up with some students who wanted to do something

0:02:48 > 0:02:49to help the homeless.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50Ladies first.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52OK.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54I'm supposed to go first and you said, "Ladies..."

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Yeah, ladies first, on about myself!

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Oh.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01They're having a mass sleep out in solidarity for young people

0:03:01 > 0:03:04who find themselves homeless.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07We can't replicate what homeless people have to go through,

0:03:07 > 0:03:09because nobody should have to go through that, but we're

0:03:09 > 0:03:13sleeping on the floor and the heating is off,

0:03:13 > 0:03:19and phones, no, MP3 players, none of that, at all.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22I think the most challenging thing that will happen tonight is sleeping

0:03:22 > 0:03:24on the ground because most people, like me, I'm used

0:03:24 > 0:03:26to sleeping on a bed.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29I think the most challenging thing for me is trying to keep warm.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Tonight, the thing that I'm going to miss the most is my family,

0:03:32 > 0:03:36because I usually have them there.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39I think the students will get a really small flavour of what it

0:03:39 > 0:03:41might be like to sleep without their home comforts,

0:03:41 > 0:03:43put themselves in the shoes of someone who's experiencing life

0:03:43 > 0:03:45on the streets.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48I can't wait until the morning because I'm not going to wake

0:03:48 > 0:03:55up, it's too early, and it's the weekend.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03On a scale of one to ten, I was one.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06It was awful, freezing cold, I was hungry.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09I was about a three.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11I was minus five.

0:04:11 > 0:04:17I think if I was uncomfortable inside on a cold wooden floor,

0:04:17 > 0:04:21then how is it for them when they don't have

0:04:21 > 0:04:23any sort of shelter?

0:04:23 > 0:04:27I think it's going to be ten times, even 100 times harder on people that

0:04:27 > 0:04:29are sleeping outside, with no home, no room, no shelter.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32More people should be taking the time to talk

0:04:32 > 0:04:35to them and try to get them out of homelessness.

0:04:35 > 0:04:40I think it's giving me the best insight because there's no other

0:04:40 > 0:04:45experience to make you feel what they're feeling.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47That's it from me.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51I'm back in just over half-an-hour.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55You can check out the rest of the day's top stories on Newsround

0:04:55 > 0:04:59online, lots of stuff there.
