0:01:29 > 0:01:31The outside of these houses were badly damaged by hail.

0:01:31 > 0:01:38The storms forced some people to hide in their basements.

0:01:38 > 0:01:45It came through like a freight train.

0:01:45 > 0:01:52It sounded like the world was coming to an end, almost.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56But it wasn't just hail causing chaos - there were powerful winds

0:01:56 > 0:01:58of up to 90 miles per hour.

0:01:58 > 0:01:59There were even a number of tornadoes

0:02:01 > 0:02:05You can see a number of large trees were taken out by this storm.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Trees were blown over, as was this lorry.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10This is just an idea of how strong these winds are and

0:02:12 > 0:02:13And this video from neighbouring state, Iowa,

0:02:13 > 0:02:16appeared to show a petrol station roof being ripped off.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Heavy rain also brought sudden flooding, and some people

0:02:19 > 0:02:21needed rescuing by lifeboats.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24The storms are now moving eastwards across the US but forecasters say

0:02:24 > 0:02:30things shouldn't be as bad.
