0:00:12 > 0:00:14Hi, Leah here with your Friday Newsround.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17First, the big day has finally arrived.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Today, the Olympics in Rio De Janiero will begin

0:00:19 > 0:00:22with a massive opening ceremony and Ricky has made the trip

0:00:22 > 0:00:28to South America and will be covering all the action for us.

0:00:28 > 0:00:33DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

0:00:42 > 0:00:47Rio is ready!

0:00:47 > 0:00:53The venues are waiting. And the athletes?

0:00:53 > 0:00:55They're just eager to get started.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58You know, I go out there, and I just stay very within myself.

0:00:58 > 0:01:05Quite reserved and just do what I know I can do.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07We believe we can go out there and get a medal.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10And we'll do our best to go out there and do that.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13I'm excited about it. We've got a great group around us.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15And all the teams, the women's, the men's, sprint, row,

0:01:15 > 0:01:21BMX, we've got a pretty strong team, I think!

0:01:21 > 0:01:24For me, being able to do that dive now is taking so much

0:01:24 > 0:01:25pressure off my shoulders.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27I think my dives are now across-the-board strong enough

0:01:27 > 0:01:31to get me a gold medal in the Olympic Games.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34For me, I want to run for medals and run for history.

0:01:34 > 0:01:39And Newsround is ready too. Here we are at Olympic Park in Rio.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42Tonight, the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2016 will take

0:01:42 > 0:01:46place at the Maracana Stadium.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48We don't know what exactly is going to happen during

0:01:48 > 0:01:50the opening ceremony because a lot of information

0:01:50 > 0:01:51is being kept under wraps.

0:01:51 > 0:01:56But we can expect a lot of music and dancing and fireworks.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58Team GB are expecting to win lots of medals right

0:01:58 > 0:02:01here in the park.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04During the London 2012 games, they won a total of 65 medals.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09Can they better that here in Rio? Fingers crossed!

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Over the summer holidays, lots of you will probably be taking

0:02:13 > 0:02:15trips out to museums near you.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18But one of the country's most popular, The Science Museum

0:02:18 > 0:02:20in London, says it's planning to charge money to go

0:02:20 > 0:02:22to one of its exhibits.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27It's summer - and here at the Science Museum in London,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29lots of kids have come with their families to see

0:02:29 > 0:02:35all the cool stuff on display.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37It's free to come here to see most things.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40But the museum are giving one of the most popular interactive

0:02:40 > 0:02:41exhibitions a makeover.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44And they say they'll be charging people to come and visit it

0:02:44 > 0:02:50when it opens in October.

0:02:51 > 0:02:52National museums in England, Wales and Scotland are free

0:02:52 > 0:02:55to visit, but they can still charge for some special displays.

0:02:55 > 0:03:00But what do kids here think about the new charge?

0:03:00 > 0:03:03Because folk are on tight budgets, they may not be able

0:03:03 > 0:03:05to experience everything.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07They need the money to keep the museums going.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09If it's really good, you feel good about it,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12that you've paid the money but if it's really bad, you feel

0:03:12 > 0:03:14like they have ripped you off.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17If they didn't, they wouldn't have enough money to improve the museum.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20I don't think that's very fair, that some parents have to fork out

0:03:20 > 0:03:25when some parents can't.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30The new exhibit, Wonderlab, is still being built at the moment -

0:03:30 > 0:03:35I spoke to Natalie, who's in charge of it.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Why did you not feel you could make an example and not charge families?

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Why did you not just say, look, we've got this to show off

0:03:41 > 0:03:42and everyone can come?

0:03:42 > 0:03:45It costs a lot of money to run an interactive gallery like this

0:03:45 > 0:03:47and the ticket charge goes towards running it.

0:03:47 > 0:03:52For a family of four people, it could cost up to ?30.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55How do you feel about families who cannot afford it?

0:03:55 > 0:03:58So, we will be having initiatives to get those families

0:03:58 > 0:04:00to come to this gallery, if they find that

0:04:00 > 0:04:01ticket charge barrier.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03We're doubling the number of schoolchildren who will

0:04:03 > 0:04:07visit this gallery. They will visit for free.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09We will be working with schools directly, and pupils who perhaps

0:04:09 > 0:04:18might not have been able to come can get tickets.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22The new exhibit has cost the science museum around ?6 million to complete

0:04:22 > 0:04:25but when it open in just two months it will be the visitors who'll judge

0:04:25 > 0:04:32whether it's worth paying for.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35And finally - what's the last thing you'd expect see at the seaside?

0:04:35 > 0:04:38How about a family of bears enjoying a splash around at the beach.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42This video filmed on a mobile shows a fully grown bear and her two cubs

0:04:42 > 0:04:45splashing around at Pope beach in California earlier this week.

0:04:45 > 0:04:46splashing around at Pope beach in California earlier this week.

0:04:46 > 0:04:47They were completely unfazed by people nearby -

0:04:47 > 0:04:53before heading off back into the woods.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.

0:04:56 > 0:05:01Bye!
