:00:10. > :00:14.You're watching Newsround live, with me, Leah.

:00:15. > :00:17.First, the strongest hurricane to hit the Caribbean in nearly

:00:18. > :00:19.ten years has battered the country of Haiti.

:00:20. > :00:22.Hurricane Matthew brought winds of 145 miles per hour and heavy

:00:23. > :00:26.rain, leading to floods and worries of mudslides.

:00:27. > :00:28.Roads have been blocked and homes have been destroyed,

:00:29. > :00:30.with thousands of people living in shelters.

:00:31. > :00:36.Haiti is one of the world's poorest countries, and is still recovering

:00:37. > :00:38.from a huge earthquake six years ago.

:00:39. > :00:51.Hurricane Matthew could drop as much as three feet of rain and we are

:00:52. > :00:57.seeing evidence of Flash flooding already. The conditions here are

:00:58. > :00:58.absolutely atrocious. To step outside is to become drenched in

:00:59. > :00:59.seconds. It's the last day of the biggest

:01:00. > :01:02.ever meeting of the world's countries, in South Africa,

:01:03. > :01:05.to talk about how to better protect Thousands of them are being

:01:06. > :01:08.illegally killed every year Jenny has been to meet some people

:01:09. > :01:26.who protect these Elephants, eating, playing, is safe.

:01:27. > :01:33.This is the environment experts say they need, space to move away from

:01:34. > :01:37.humans who can be dangerous to them in many ways. These beautiful

:01:38. > :01:42.elephants were not so easy to find. I have come to the north-east of

:01:43. > :01:47.South Africa, far away from the big cities and home to the famous Kruger

:01:48. > :01:51.National Park. We are setting off this morning for a game of hide and

:01:52. > :01:56.seek with a safari guide and a car and we have to be very patient,

:01:57. > :01:59.which I am finding quite difficult. It is a massive area where South

:02:00. > :02:10.Africa's wild animals can live as they have always. But strangely no

:02:11. > :02:14.sign of the one creature we had come looking for. We are back at the camp

:02:15. > :02:20.now and we have been out all day long and we have seen loads of

:02:21. > :02:27.animals, giraffes, lions, Buffalo, warthog, even crocodiles, but no

:02:28. > :02:32.elephants. But the next morning... We found them, finally, hurray! I

:02:33. > :02:38.can't believe it! Getting so close to incredible elephants like this is

:02:39. > :02:42.one of the most important ways South Africa believes it can protect them.

:02:43. > :02:50.It gives people a thrill and helps them really understand how nature

:02:51. > :02:54.needs elephants. For me, personally, elephants play a big role in the

:02:55. > :02:58.ecosystem, especially clearing thick bush and as they walk with their big

:02:59. > :03:03.bodies they clear pathways and make the Bush more open. It is a really

:03:04. > :03:06.good example where you can see elephants the barking tree and you

:03:07. > :03:10.can see a beautiful task market and how they use the tasks to take off

:03:11. > :03:13.the bar. This will fall down eventually and create a whole new

:03:14. > :03:18.ecosystem for a lot of other animals. One of the ways people hope

:03:19. > :03:24.to stop the illegal hunting and killing of elephants is to catch the

:03:25. > :03:29.people doing it, poachers. These are super sniffing dogs. They definitely

:03:30. > :03:33.are not pets. They are trained to snaffle out trouble and catch

:03:34. > :03:39.poachers. Once they are experts these dogs will be set out on patrol

:03:40. > :03:43.to protect animals in the wild or find stolen ivory. The poaching

:03:44. > :03:47.problem in Africa as a whole is huge. It is all over Africa and

:03:48. > :03:52.elephant populations are suffering big time but the use of these

:03:53. > :03:55.working canines, working dogs, the poachers know we can track them and

:03:56. > :04:00.we will indicate the presence of them at night. They can't hide away

:04:01. > :04:07.from us. Without anti-poaching efforts in Africa we will lose all

:04:08. > :04:10.of our wildlife, never mind just the elephant which is getting hammered

:04:11. > :04:15.now, but we will lose everything. Anti-poachers and Rangers together

:04:16. > :04:16.hope to stop the crisis and keep these awesome creatures around for

:04:17. > :04:19.generations to come. And finally, in sport,

:04:20. > :04:21.England captain Wayne Rooney has been speaking to the media

:04:22. > :04:24.at a press conference ahead of the World Cup qualifiers

:04:25. > :04:26.against Malta and Slovenia. Rooney will remain captain

:04:27. > :04:29.after Sam Allardyce's dismissal last week,

:04:30. > :04:30.while temporary manager And Rooney is a big fan

:04:31. > :04:43.of his new boss. Again I think he has done a very

:04:44. > :04:47.good job with the under 21 is and he has an opportunity now to show what

:04:48. > :04:51.he can do at the senior level and we have to buy into his ways and try

:04:52. > :04:53.and take his ideas on board.
