0:00:09 > 0:00:10I'm Ricky, live on CBBC.

0:00:10 > 0:00:10Coming up...

0:00:10 > 0:00:17Stunning close ups of pluto.

0:00:17 > 0:00:22And Dippy, the 20 year-old penguin, is on the move. -- Pluto.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28First to India, where power is returning to most parts

0:00:28 > 0:00:29of the southern city of Chennai, following devastating flooding.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36A massive operation is underway to try to get food and medicines to

0:00:36 > 0:00:39the thousands of people affected.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41The rains were the heaviest for 100 years.

0:00:41 > 0:00:48Here's the BBC's reporter in Chennai, Sanjoy Majumder.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49This is one of the worst affected areas.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51And, with the rain still coming down, the

0:00:51 > 0:00:53water levels are still quite high.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56A community of 6,000 people live here, mostly shoemakers by trade

0:00:56 > 0:00:59and only one third of them have been moved to a camp nearby.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01The rest are still here.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04They say no government aid has reached him, no army rescue

0:01:04 > 0:01:12teams have visited them.

0:01:12 > 0:01:12--

0:01:12 > 0:01:12-- no

0:01:12 > 0:01:12-- no government

0:01:12 > 0:01:12-- no government aid

0:01:12 > 0:01:13-- no government aid has

0:01:13 > 0:01:13-- no government aid has reached

0:01:13 > 0:01:14-- no government aid has reached them.

0:01:14 > 0:01:16They have been left to their own devices

0:01:16 > 0:01:17and the good will of volunteers.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Back here in the UK, Storm Desmond is causing flooding in parts of

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Cumbria and Scotland.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23Roads have been closed and people have been told check

0:01:23 > 0:01:24its safe before travelling.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27The rain is expected to continue for the rest of the day across

0:01:27 > 0:01:28North-West England and Scotland.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31NASA's New Horizons space probe has sent back the most detailed images

0:01:31 > 0:01:33of Pluto that anyone has ever seen.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35The super-sharp pictures gives scientists clear views of

0:01:35 > 0:01:40mountains, craters and smooth ice fields on the planet.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42NASA will try to launch its orbital rocket again today.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47High winds meant they had to cancel the planned launch yesterday.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49It's carrying supplies for astronauts living on board

0:01:49 > 0:01:53the international space station.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57The UK is home to more than 200 different species of bird,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00but it's getting harder for many of them to survive here.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02Jenny's been finding out which of these birds are

0:02:02 > 0:02:05on the endangered list.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09Unfortunately, for some of our favourite birds, this latest report

0:02:09 > 0:02:14by bird charities and conservation groups is not great news.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16The puffin that nests in the coastlines and islands

0:02:16 > 0:02:20in areas all over the UK is at risk, because of climate change.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23As the sea warms up, the fish they feed on are travelling

0:02:23 > 0:02:29further north to cold waters,

0:02:29 > 0:02:32putting them out of the puffins' reach, which means they don't have

0:02:32 > 0:02:33enough food to feed their chicks,

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Other birds which aren't doing well are curlews.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37This is because the habitats where they nest

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and the wetlands where they feed are not being looked after properly.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44Some of the birds we see in our back gardens are at risk.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Many people aren't growing the sort of flowers

0:02:47 > 0:02:51and plants that insects live on.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53This then means that there aren't enough bugs

0:02:53 > 0:02:54for many garden birds to feed on.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56It's not all doom and gloom, though.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Some birds are doing really well, thanks to efforts by charities

0:02:59 > 0:03:02like the RSPB.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04You might see the red kite soaring over fields

0:03:04 > 0:03:08and gardens looking for food.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10It's doing brilliantly, thanks to special efforts over

0:03:10 > 0:03:14the years to reintroduce them into different parts of the UK.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17So, fingers crossed, there's still hope for the rest

0:03:17 > 0:03:23of our beautiful British birds.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25For you chocolate lovers, what could be better than this?

0:03:25 > 0:03:28This London company scans your face in full

0:03:28 > 0:03:31and then prints it using a 3D printer.

0:03:31 > 0:03:36They make a mould, pour the chocolate in and leave it

0:03:36 > 0:03:38to set, then there you have it.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Why not lick your own face?

0:03:41 > 0:03:44A penguin with special needs has moved to a new home in Norfolk

0:03:44 > 0:03:47after his sanctuary shut.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50Dippy lives with a condition called arthritis

0:03:50 > 0:03:52that causes pain in his joints.

0:03:52 > 0:03:57He's moved with 10 other humbolt penguins to the east of England.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02His new home already has a specially adapted pool to help him out.

0:04:02 > 0:04:07We heard Dippy had some problems with arthritis in his hips

0:04:07 > 0:04:10and we used to have an arthritic penguin, Lola, who used

0:04:10 > 0:04:11to live here many years ago.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13So we have some experience with that.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16And, luckily, we've got this ramp already built into our pool, which

0:04:16 > 0:04:19helps birds like Dippy and Lola to walk into the pool, rather than

0:04:19 > 0:04:22having to jump up onto the rocks, like all our other penguins do.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25It's the 5th December today, and day five of our advent calendar.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29This week it's all about your Christmas traditions.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34Hello, I'm Katie from the CBBC office

0:04:34 > 0:04:36and I'm the biggest Christmas fan in the world.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38I've got loads of Christmas traditions, like going ice-skating,

0:04:38 > 0:04:40getting new pyjamas to wear Christmas Eve, waking everybody up

0:04:40 > 0:04:44very early in the morning on Christmas Day to open presents.

0:04:44 > 0:04:53And, of course, wearing lots of ridiculous headbands

0:04:53 > 0:04:54and hats and things like that. Like this one.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04It's not just us at Newsround catching the Christmas bug.

0:05:04 > 0:05:04Oh, no.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Check out this real-life advent calendar.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Doors are being swung open all over Winchester in South West England,

0:05:09 > 0:05:11but, instead of chocolate inside, visitors are able to watch

0:05:11 > 0:05:11performances.

0:05:11 > 0:05:1424 doors will open over 24 days, hosting 24 different events.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16So what do some of the visitors make of it?

0:05:16 > 0:05:18What did you think of that?

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the singing.

0:05:20 > 0:05:21I think it was really good.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23I bet you've got an advent calendar at home.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Yeah. How does it compare to the one at home?

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Well, it's different, because you actually go into the door

0:05:28 > 0:05:30and you don't get any chocolate.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32This may be one of the most unusual friendships

0:05:32 > 0:05:35we've ever seen on Newsround.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Timur the goat was released into a tiger's enclosure

0:05:37 > 0:05:40at a Russian safari park.

0:05:40 > 0:05:41Instead of being eaten for dinner,

0:05:41 > 0:05:43Timur made friends with the hungry tiger.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46And now the pair are living side by side, with Timur even sleeping

0:05:46 > 0:05:51in the big cat's bed, leaving him out in the cold.

0:05:51 > 0:05:53That's all from the Newsround team for today.

0:05:53 > 0:05:55We'll be back tomorrow morning at 9:55am,

0:05:55 > 0:05:57with all of your top stories.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00See you then.
