0:00:12 > 0:00:16Hi, I'm Hayley and this is Newsround.

0:00:16 > 0:00:18First, have you ever seen anything on YouTube

0:00:18 > 0:00:21or YouTube Kids that worried you?

0:00:21 > 0:00:23There s been lots of reports about videos being put up

0:00:23 > 0:00:26on the site that are not suitable for children.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Some of you have seen upsetting videos on there,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31when you thought you were watching something meant for kids.

0:00:31 > 0:00:37So as part of Safer Internet Day, I decided to ask

0:00:39 > 0:00:42These kids invited me to their school to tell me about their

0:00:42 > 0:00:45experiences on YouTube.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47So we asked Katie to come and meet us.

0:00:47 > 0:00:52She is the director of policy for Google,

0:00:52 > 0:00:54who own YouTube.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56First of all, can you tell us how you are going to

0:00:56 > 0:00:58make it as safe as possible for kids?

0:00:58 > 0:01:01We have actually built a whole new platform for kids, where we

0:01:01 > 0:01:03take the best content, stuff that you're most interested in,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06and put it in there on a package that plays just for kids.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08These kids have got stories to

0:01:08 > 0:01:10tell you about their experiences on YouTube and YouTube Kids.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Chardonnay, would you like to go first?

0:01:12 > 0:01:14I was on YouTube listening to a song and an advert

0:01:14 > 0:01:16came up with scary messages.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19And I was on kids you Tube, I was watching

0:01:19 > 0:01:21a video by a YouTuber who is quite famous.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24In the video he started swearing.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27When I was on YouTube I logged into a video about slime and

0:01:27 > 0:01:31a scary image popped up with blood on it.

0:01:31 > 0:01:36I felt really scared and I couldn't sleep that day.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38I feel YouTube should check their videos

0:01:38 > 0:01:43because there are lots of children of different ages watching.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46I think YouTube should watch it before we

0:01:46 > 0:01:54watch it so kids like me don't get scared.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58All these guys have been upset or hurt in some way by what

0:01:58 > 0:02:00they have seen on YouTube and gives YouTube.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02So what have you got to say to them?

0:02:02 > 0:02:05We don't want anyone to have a tougher bad experience and we

0:02:05 > 0:02:09work really hard to make sure that people can see the kind of content

0:02:09 > 0:02:10that we want.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13So I'm really sorry for all of you who have had good

0:02:13 > 0:02:15experiences on YouTube but also bad or tough experiences.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Is it not too late for the kids?

0:02:17 > 0:02:19Surely you have a responsibility to check these things before

0:02:19 > 0:02:20any child sees them?

0:02:20 > 0:02:22We have a responsibility to make sure that the

0:02:22 > 0:02:25platform can survive and can thrive, so that we have a collection of

0:02:25 > 0:02:27content that comes from around the world.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30We want people to do that in a safe and responsible way.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32We also know there is a diverse amount of

0:02:32 > 0:02:35content on YouTube, as there is on the wider Internet,

0:02:35 > 0:02:37and it wouldn't be fair if I sat here and said to

0:02:37 > 0:02:40you, we can make a perfectly safe.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43Both things are still going wrong, kids are still seeing things on

0:02:43 > 0:02:44YouTube Kids that are inappropriate.

0:02:44 > 0:02:45Do you need to work harder?

0:02:45 > 0:02:47Do you need to do more?

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Absolutely we need to do more.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53We need to do more to make sure that children can

0:02:53 > 0:02:56experience the Internet in a way they feel confident, and away they

0:02:56 > 0:02:59feel safe, and away they feel they can flag content that isn't

0:02:59 > 0:03:02correct and they can get the education and

0:03:02 > 0:03:07support from us and from the wider family and friends and school too.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09All these kids here have been quite hurt and upset.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Some have not been able to sleep at night over what

0:03:12 > 0:03:13they have seen on YouTube.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Would you like to take this opportunity to say

0:03:15 > 0:03:18sorry to them and other kids who might have seen things

0:03:18 > 0:03:19that are disturbing?

0:03:19 > 0:03:22I find it very tough to hear that you have seen and

0:03:22 > 0:03:24experienced things you didn't want to and you can't really difficult

0:03:24 > 0:03:25on there.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I would really like to make sure that doesn't happen again, and

0:03:28 > 0:03:32I'm very, very sorry for any hurt or discomfort that he found, because

0:03:32 > 0:03:35that's not nice at any age.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38While we're talking about staying safe online, we know things

0:03:38 > 0:03:41you see and hear online can hurt your feelings or confuse you.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43But that doesn t mean you need to be scared.

0:03:43 > 0:03:47'Own It' is a new BBC website which can help.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50So head to bbc.com/ownit for real-life stories,

0:03:50 > 0:03:51advice from experts, fun quizzes, and videos

0:03:51 > 0:03:56with celebs and vloggers.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Next, 100 years ago today, a change in the law gave women

0:03:59 > 0:04:02in the UK the right to vote in general elections

0:04:02 > 0:04:05for the very first time.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08They still didn't have the same voting rights as men,

0:04:08 > 0:04:12but this date marked an important step towards getting equality

0:04:12 > 0:04:14between men and women. But what does equality mean?

0:04:14 > 0:04:22We spoke to some amazing women to see what they had to say.

0:04:23 > 0:04:30It means if the boys can do it, you can do it too.A quality means

0:04:30 > 0:04:33listening to everybody and valuing what they have to say no matter who

0:04:33 > 0:04:40they are.Everyone is exactly the same. We are all the same people. We

0:04:40 > 0:04:43are all humans. It's important in society that everyone gets treated

0:04:43 > 0:04:49with the same opportunities.Life is all about finding a passion and

0:04:49 > 0:04:52living happily. With the quality it means you can have that chance in a

0:04:52 > 0:04:56matter who you are. Everybody deserves it.My favourite

0:04:56 > 0:05:01description of equality comes from an indigenous tribe in Latin

0:05:01 > 0:05:05America, where they say our tribe is like an eagle. An eagle has two

0:05:05 > 0:05:10wings. One is male, one is female. Only when the two wings are equal

0:05:10 > 0:05:12will our tribe 's like true.

0:05:12 > 0:05:15And to see more of these incredible women, then head online,

0:05:15 > 0:05:18where we've also got got all you need to know about women's

0:05:18 > 0:05:20fight for the right to vote. Take a look.

0:05:20 > 0:05:21That's it from me.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23We're back tomorrow morning.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Bye!
