:00:00. > :00:09.Good morning and happy World Book Day, everyone. I'm Leah and here's

:00:10. > :00:14.what's coming up. England beat Denmark in the footie,

:00:15. > :00:20.and Daniel Sturridge celebrates inwardly style. And the bizarre

:00:21. > :00:26.annual footy match where everything goes. This is newsround.

:00:27. > :00:35.huge celebration of authors, illustrators and books in over a

:00:36. > :00:38.hundred countries all over the world. Thousands of you will be

:00:39. > :00:43.going to school this morning dressed as characters from your favourite

:00:44. > :00:53.stories. Ruby has dressed as fantastic Mr Fox. Sophie is going as

:00:54. > :01:04.gangster granny, and Olivia is going as Alice. Jack is Harry Potter. Take

:01:05. > :01:07.a snap of yourself in your costume and send it to us. Now, if you were

:01:08. > :01:10.watching our earlier bulletin you would've seen us exclusively

:01:11. > :01:14.announcing the winner of this year's Blue Peter Books Award for Best

:01:15. > :01:20.Story. And joining me on the sofa is the newly crowned champion Katherine

:01:21. > :01:26.Rundell. Katherine, congratulations. How do you feel? It feels like every

:01:27. > :01:32.Christmas and birthday in one. What does it mean to win the award? This

:01:33. > :01:41.award is voted for by children, because they are the people who read

:01:42. > :01:45.the book. What is the book about? It is about a little girl who goes to

:01:46. > :01:50.Paris in search of her mother, and she discovers this gang of children

:01:51. > :01:54.who live upon the rooftops, and they have fights with bows and arrows. It

:01:55. > :02:00.is an adventure story. It sounds magical. Where did the idea come

:02:01. > :02:05.from? I used to go running across the rooftops of the Oxford colleges,

:02:06. > :02:11.and I discovered something up there, and I wondered, what happened if

:02:12. > :02:15.there was another world up here? So you have created a magical world.

:02:16. > :02:19.What your friends and family say? They think it is wonderful. What

:02:20. > :02:27.advice do you have for any young aspiring authors out there? Read.

:02:28. > :02:32.Read lots of books, have adventures so that you have something to write

:02:33. > :02:34.about later. Thank you for joining us, and congratulations. Now, make

:02:35. > :02:38.sure you're watching Blue Peter at 5.30 on CBBC to see Katherine and

:02:39. > :02:40.the other winners receive their awards. They'll also be lots of

:02:41. > :02:44.World Book Day celebrations including a chance for your ideas to

:02:45. > :02:49.be turned into a story by author Anthony Horowitz live in the studio.

:02:50. > :02:52.That sounds amazing. Plus find out which book characters Barney,

:02:53. > :03:01.Lindsey and Radzi will be dressed up as. A boy from Preston has become

:03:02. > :03:04.the youngest person ever to successfully carry out atomic

:03:05. > :03:07.fusion. 13-year-old Jamie built a nuclear reactor at school, before

:03:08. > :03:10.successfully smashing two hydrogen atoms together to make helium. The

:03:11. > :03:14.results still need to be verified, but Jamie was pretty excited by his

:03:15. > :03:17.experiment. I was altering the high-voltage and

:03:18. > :03:25.checking the pressure inside the chamber, and then I heard the Geiger

:03:26. > :03:30.counter rapidly go up and Spike, and the neutron counter went crazy. It

:03:31. > :03:35.was brilliant. You can make something that you might see in a

:03:36. > :03:40.star in the sky at night, and a little chamber. It is just magic.

:03:41. > :03:44.Janey, but is brilliant. Moving on to sport. All the home nations were

:03:45. > :03:47.in action last night for friendlies ahead of the summer's footy World

:03:48. > :03:50.Cup in Brazil, and the Euro 2016 qualifying campaigns. Roy Hodgson's

:03:51. > :03:53.England side left it late - Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of a

:03:54. > :03:56.slow-moving game against Denmark with a cracking header. The

:03:57. > :03:59.Liverpool striker then treated fans to his brand-new wiggly-arm dance -

:04:00. > :04:03.nice moves, Daniel! And Gareth Bale starred in an

:04:04. > :04:10.impressive 3-1 win for Wales over Iceland in Cardiff. Having set up

:04:11. > :04:13.the first goal, the Real Madrid ace then picked up the third himself for

:04:14. > :04:16.Chris Coleman's side. Elsewhere Scotland beat Poland 1-0, but

:04:17. > :04:27.Northern Ireland went goalless against Cyprus. But now to a

:04:28. > :04:30.football match like no other. Hundreds of people took part in the

:04:31. > :04:33.yearly Shrovetide match in Ashborne yesterday. Pretty much anything goes

:04:34. > :04:37.in the fast-paced match, you can even shove and grab other players,

:04:38. > :04:42.in fact one of the only rules is that you can't carry the ball in a

:04:43. > :04:46.car! The aim is to get the ball to the goal posts, which are in the

:04:47. > :04:52.middle of a river. Not one for the easily bruised, that one.

:04:53. > :04:56.That's all from me and the Newsround team. Don't forget to send us your

:04:57. > :04:58.pictures of what you are dressed up for, and I will see you tomorrow.

:04:59. > :04:59.Goodbye.
