:00:00. > :00:00.Hello, and welcome back to Newsround.

:00:07. > :00:09.I'm Hayley, and I've got all the best news from around

:00:10. > :00:15.How solar storms could have confused these whales.

:00:16. > :00:21.And should fashion stationery be banned from the classroom?

:00:22. > :00:32.People in the Caribbean and Florida in America are getting ready

:00:33. > :00:35.for the arrival of Hurricane Irma, which is one of the most powerful

:00:36. > :00:44.The hurricane is moving across the ocean, and has just hit land.

:00:45. > :00:47.In Caribbean countries, like Antigua and Saint Martin,

:00:48. > :00:50.people are preparing for strong winds and heavy rain,

:00:51. > :00:52.and overnight, some places have already started to flood.

:00:53. > :00:56.Officials in Florida have told people they need to prepare.

:00:57. > :00:59.The storm is massive and the storm surge is predicted to go

:01:00. > :01:05.Right now, it is travelling at around 15 mph and the track has

:01:06. > :01:09.it forecasted to move just south of the Florida Keys on a westerly

:01:10. > :01:18.Do not sit and wait to prepare, get prepared now.

:01:19. > :01:21.Scientists think they've figured out why a big group of whales got

:01:22. > :01:23.stranded on Britain's coast last year, and it's all to

:01:24. > :01:32.They might look amazing, but these solar storms caused a lot

:01:33. > :01:37.Last year, 29 young whales were stranded on the coasts

:01:38. > :01:42.of northern Europe and nobody could work out why.

:01:43. > :01:45.But now scientists think it could have been down to large solar

:01:46. > :01:48.storms caused by the sun, which are known as

:01:49. > :01:53.These storms in space could have affected the way the sperm whales

:01:54. > :01:59.That's why they got lost in shallow waters and beached themselves.

:02:00. > :02:05.Beaching is when whales get stuck on sand and can be very dangerous.

:02:06. > :02:07.It can happen for lots of different reasons.

:02:08. > :02:13.For these sperm whales, it was down to the solar storms.

:02:14. > :02:16.But some whales become stranded because they're sick or injured

:02:17. > :02:21.It's thought changes in the environment could cause them

:02:22. > :02:26.If there's not enough food, if temperatures are particularly

:02:27. > :02:31.high or low or if their environment has become polluted.

:02:32. > :02:34.And sometimes it's just down to mistakes.

:02:35. > :02:37.They can sometimes lose their way into shallow waters by accident

:02:38. > :02:41.whilst travelling to warmer waters to mate.

:02:42. > :02:43.Whales are very sociable creatures and often travel

:02:44. > :02:51.Marine scientists think that if one is affected by any of these things

:02:52. > :02:53.then others travelling with it will copy them, which

:02:54. > :03:00.could be what happened to the sperm whales last year.

:03:01. > :03:03.Now, some of you are already back at school, but for others,

:03:04. > :03:09.One of the most exciting and most nerve-wracking times in your life,

:03:10. > :03:15.so we asked some of YOU to describe it - in emojis!

:03:16. > :03:26.When I started high school, I felt like this. I felt like this. I felt,

:03:27. > :03:32.don't feel stressed, it is going to be bigger than primary school, and

:03:33. > :03:42.it takes a while to get used to, but after a while you got used to it. I

:03:43. > :03:49.felt... On the first-day, then be by yourself, find new people, make new

:03:50. > :03:53.friends. I felt like this. Obviously, it's going to be a change

:03:54. > :03:54.but it's not as big as you think it will be. You are worrying too much

:03:55. > :04:06.about it. I felt like this. LAUGHTER Well, many of you may have got

:04:07. > :04:09.new pens or a new pencil case for the first day back at school,

:04:10. > :04:12.but one teacher thinks fancy stationery should be banned,

:04:13. > :04:14.because it's too distracting First, it was the bottle flip, then

:04:15. > :04:23.it was the giant mega-hair bows, But has it been taken

:04:24. > :04:29.a step too far? One teacher wants to ban

:04:30. > :04:32.your stationery as well. I think some of the stationery

:04:33. > :04:38.shouldn't be allowed in the classroom because it's really

:04:39. > :04:41.only a distraction. Nobody really needs a rubber

:04:42. > :04:44.shaped like a macaron, nobody really needs a pencil

:04:45. > :04:47.sharpener that is shaped like nail polish and nobody

:04:48. > :04:49.really needs a pencil case So what do these guys

:04:50. > :04:55.from Lancashire think? My favourite piece of stationery

:04:56. > :04:59.is a rubber because you can get very My favourite stationery is this

:05:00. > :05:08.because I feel cool when I have it. I like these highlighters

:05:09. > :05:10.because if one side runs out, you can use the other side,

:05:11. > :05:12.it's double sided. When you have a special one,

:05:13. > :05:18.it makes you feel special. I don't think the stationery should

:05:19. > :05:21.be banned because some people would have to fiddle

:05:22. > :05:26.with stuff to concentrate. If it gets banned, it's fine,

:05:27. > :05:29.because you've still got pencils to write with and you've got

:05:30. > :05:31.rubbers to use. You shouldn't have, like,

:05:32. > :05:34.pink things like that, or blue You need to save it for playtime

:05:35. > :05:43.because that's when you can play but when you're in class,

:05:44. > :05:46.you have to learn. If it was banned,

:05:47. > :05:47.how would you feel? A bit sad because you'd just have

:05:48. > :05:50.boring plain pencils That's all from me, Newsround's back

:05:51. > :06:01.this afternoon at 4.20pm.
