0:00:17 > 0:00:21This is Newsround.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31First, one of the biggest, most colourful carnivals

0:00:31 > 0:00:33in the world has started in Rio, in Brazil.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36More than a million people are expected in the city to take

0:00:36 > 0:00:38part in the celebrations.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40People wear amazing costumes and dance through the streets.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43The carnival is still going ahead,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46despite worries about a virus called Zika, which is spreading

0:00:46 > 0:00:47in South America.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51Martin has been looking into what it is and how to fight it.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Zika is a disease carried by mosquitoes.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57When a mosquito bites people, it can it spread the disease

0:00:57 > 0:00:58from person to person.

0:00:58 > 0:01:04The type of mosquitoes that carry the disease live in tropical

0:01:04 > 0:01:06countries, so it's not likely to affect the UK.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08When people do catch the virus, usually it's very mild,

0:01:08 > 0:01:13so mild that they don't know they were infected afterwards.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16You feel a bit unwell, like you've got a cold,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19but it's more serious if a woman is having a baby.

0:01:19 > 0:01:24Scientists say they think it may affect how a baby grows

0:01:24 > 0:01:25before it's born.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Doctors around the world are now coming up with ways

0:01:27 > 0:01:29to try to deal with Zika.

0:01:29 > 0:01:31While scientists are making new medicines and vaccines to stop

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Zika virus, everyone is going to be working to make sure people don't

0:01:34 > 0:01:36get bitten by mosquitoes.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39They're going to be trying to get rid of the mosquitoes and that

0:01:39 > 0:01:42will actually stop a lot of different diseases.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46Thanks, Martin.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Well, let's head to Rio now to see how the carnival is going.

0:01:49 > 0:01:57The BBC's Julia Caniero is there.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00It's the first day in Rio and this is one of the many street parades

0:02:00 > 0:02:02that are happening across the city.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04500 blocos are to happen during carnival and this one

0:02:04 > 0:02:05is very traditional.

0:02:05 > 0:02:13They are playing the old carnival songs that people here grew up

0:02:13 > 0:02:16with and this is a parade or bloco for children and babies,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19so there are many families here and this is a good example

0:02:19 > 0:02:21of how people in Brazil learn to enjoy carnival

0:02:21 > 0:02:23from a very young age.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Fashion here is very creative and, despite all the problems Brazil

0:02:25 > 0:02:27is facing, like concern over the Zika virus,

0:02:27 > 0:02:31the party here is going on as usual.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34OK, it's a big weekend for you rugby fans.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37This afternoon, Ireland will begin their attempt to get

0:02:37 > 0:02:40three Six Nations titles in a row, when they take on Wales in the

0:02:40 > 0:02:44final game of the opening weekend.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48Yesterday Scotland were defeated 9-15 to England at Murrayfield,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50meaning England retained the Calcutta Cup and made a great

0:02:50 > 0:02:54start in the tournament.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57And France sneaked a win against Italy at the Stade de France,

0:02:57 > 0:02:58in the opening match of the tournament,

0:02:58 > 0:03:01coming from 18-10 down to win 23-21.

0:03:01 > 0:03:06A penalty five minutes from time made all the difference.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09Online, we've been asking who you're cheering on and who you want to win

0:03:09 > 0:03:12and loads of you have been in touch.

0:03:12 > 0:03:13Keep the comments coming.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15John in Northern Ireland thinks Ireland will win,

0:03:15 > 0:03:18because they won it last year.

0:03:18 > 0:03:19because they won it last year.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23And Laura, from Cuumbran in Wales says...

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Next, sport doesn't come much bigger than this -

0:03:30 > 0:03:32the Superbowl.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35More than 100 million people all round the world will be

0:03:35 > 0:03:39watching the biggest American football game of the year

0:03:39 > 0:03:42later, as the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45And even though it's in America, there is a little bit of Britain

0:03:45 > 0:03:47in there, too.

0:03:47 > 0:03:52Panthers star Graham Gano was actually born in Arbroath

0:03:52 > 0:03:54in Scotland and, although he grew up in the US,

0:03:54 > 0:03:57he hasn't forgotten his roots.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00My dream growing up was always to play for the Scottish national

0:04:00 > 0:04:05team and never to play football, so it's changed a little bit,

0:04:05 > 0:04:10but I'm really excited to have the jerseys now.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12Next, Martin's been to the primary school in Scotland

0:04:12 > 0:04:15where the skeleton of an old pirate has been found under the playground.

0:04:15 > 0:04:16Want to know more?

0:04:16 > 0:04:18I've come to this school in Edinburgh, because experts

0:04:18 > 0:04:21believe they could have discovered the remains of a pirate

0:04:21 > 0:04:23underneath the school playground.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25That's right, a pirate.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27But, Martin, how could a pirate be found underneath our playground?

0:04:27 > 0:04:31Let's find out.

0:04:31 > 0:04:36The remains date to aroundabout the 16th century.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39It is of a port next to the seaside.

0:04:39 > 0:04:40The actual site was on the beach.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42He was relatively small in height.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44He seemed to have had quite a hard working life.

0:04:44 > 0:04:48He had a broken arm when he was younger.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51So, what do pupils here think about the discovery?

0:04:51 > 0:04:54I immediately thought, like, Captain Jack Sparrow.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58Like, with a big sword and a big hat and a big feather.

0:04:58 > 0:04:59I thought it was a joke.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03I thought our teacher was recommending a story of pirate.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06It just feels, like, amazing.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09And interesting, like everyone wants to see it.

0:05:09 > 0:05:17When you get told that there is bones in your playground,

0:05:17 > 0:05:20The thing I don't like about the bones is because we've got bones

0:05:20 > 0:05:23in our playground and it's quite freaky.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Well, it might be freaky to some, but others see the funny side.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Why are pirates pirates?

0:05:28 > 0:05:29I don't know.

0:05:29 > 0:05:30Because they arrrre!

0:05:30 > 0:05:34LAUGHTER

0:05:34 > 0:05:37That's all from the team for now.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39But there's loads more online,

0:05:39 > 0:05:42including these awesome pictures of a volcano erupting in Japan.
