:00:00. > :00:00.will be talking all things World Cup. If you cannot wait, go to the

:00:00. > :00:08.website where there is a sneak preview of the clip. Hi, Leah here

:00:09. > :00:14.and on today's show: The lasso stunt that is all down to maths. Serious

:00:15. > :00:25.cute alert. Because it is Friday we bring you a baby hippo. This is

:00:26. > :00:28.Newsround. We will start with the continuing crisis in Ukraine where

:00:29. > :00:32.Russian forces remain in the Crimea region in the south of the country

:00:33. > :00:34.which is causing a big argument between the world's major countries.

:00:35. > :00:37.The American president, Barack Obama, has spent an hour on the

:00:38. > :00:41.phone to Russia's leader, Vladimir Putin, trying to persuade him to

:00:42. > :00:46.find a peaceful solution to the problems in Ukraine. It is the

:00:47. > :00:50.second time in a week the two leaders have spoken. Russia sent

:00:51. > :00:54.troops to take over the Crimea region over a week ago, an action

:00:55. > :01:08.that world leaders say is wrong and against international law. These

:01:09. > :01:12.decisions continue our efforts to impose a cost on Russia and those

:01:13. > :01:17.responsible for the situation in Crimea. They give us the flexibility

:01:18. > :01:21.to adjust our response going forward based on Russia's actions. So how

:01:22. > :01:24.might the tensions between Russia and the rest of the world affect the

:01:25. > :01:27.Winter Paralympics which start today in Sochi? Just a few weeks after

:01:28. > :01:30.Team GB's record equalling medal haul at the Winter Olympics now the

:01:31. > :01:33.country's best Paralympian's will take to the slopes. The opening

:01:34. > :01:38.ceremony kicks things off this evening, so here is Ricky with a

:01:39. > :01:46.preview of what to expect. Hurling, downhill skiing and ice hockey. Just

:01:47. > :01:51.two weeks after the Winter Olympics all your favourites boys are back.

:01:52. > :01:57.Team GB have sent a team of 15 athletes to Sochi. At 15 years old

:01:58. > :02:04.Millie Knight is the youngest member of the squad and has been chosen as

:02:05. > :02:10.the flag bearer. I was not expecting it at all. I was in the meeting and

:02:11. > :02:14.they said, as you might be aware, the opening ceremony is tomorrow and

:02:15. > :02:21.we would like you to be the flag bearer. But David Cameron will not

:02:22. > :02:25.be dead tonight. He has told his Government ministers to stay away

:02:26. > :02:30.from Sochi because of the tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Prince

:02:31. > :02:36.Edward has also pulled out, as have a delegation from President Obama's

:02:37. > :02:42.White House. But all of Team GB's athletes are taking part and so far

:02:43. > :02:47.none of the other 43 countries have withdrawn. But that is not the only

:02:48. > :02:53.problem. A lack of snow on the slopes has led to British downhill

:02:54. > :02:58.skier Mike Brennan pulling out of the event. Who might win the medals?

:02:59. > :03:02.The British wheelchair curling team have a great chance of getting on

:03:03. > :03:08.the podium and partially sighted skier Kelly Gallagher will try to

:03:09. > :03:12.follow in the footsteps of Lizzie Yarnold. Back here and we describe

:03:13. > :03:16.the UK weather in three words, wet, windy and rainy. But there is some

:03:17. > :03:19.good news ahead because the Met Office, the people who monitor the

:03:20. > :03:22.weather, say temperatures this weekend are on the up. By Sunday the

:03:23. > :03:26.Southeast could reach 17 Celsius and be warmer than parts of Greece and

:03:27. > :03:30.Turkey. In Scotland and the North West of England it will be cooler,

:03:31. > :03:33.but bright skies for most of the weekend. A French physicist has

:03:34. > :03:36.worked out how to perform the perfect cowboy rope lasso stunt

:03:37. > :03:39.using a maths equation. Dr Pierre, who has been studying trick roping

:03:40. > :03:42.says anyone can teach themselves the famous flat loop trick simply by

:03:43. > :03:46.following some basic maths. Apparently it is all to do with the

:03:47. > :03:50.size of the loop and how fast you rotate your wrist. It looks pretty

:03:51. > :03:55.impressive. Head to the website if you want to find out more about the

:03:56. > :03:58.story and if you want to try and teach yourself the trick. That is

:03:59. > :04:02.where you will also find our story about a dinosaur that has been

:04:03. > :04:08.unearthed in Portugal, far older and far bigger than the mighty T-Rex

:04:09. > :04:11.itself. A quick bit of sport and England fans face an anxious wait to

:04:12. > :04:15.see whether Jack Wilshere will be fit in time for the summer's World

:04:16. > :04:17.Cup in Brazil. The Arsenal ace fractured his left foot in the

:04:18. > :04:21.friendly against Denmark on Wednesday night. He actually played

:04:22. > :04:24.on through the injury for nearly an hour before being substituted. He

:04:25. > :04:28.will be out of action for at least six weeks. It is Friday morning and

:04:29. > :04:34.that means it must be time for a baby hippo. This is a tiny baby Nile

:04:35. > :04:43.hippopotamus who was born just over a week ago at a zoo in Mexico City.

:04:44. > :04:47.Even though it is only a baby it weighed in at a beefy 35 kilograms

:04:48. > :04:51.and likes to stay so close to its mum that its keepers have not been

:04:52. > :04:55.able to tell yet whether it is a boy or a girl. The zoo is letting the

:04:56. > :04:59.public choose a name in an online vote. I could look at those pictures

:05:00. > :05:01.all day long. Newsround is back right here in half an hour.
