0:00:14 > 0:00:17Hello, I'm Leah, and welcome to Newsround.

0:00:17 > 0:00:26First this afternoon the UK government says it supports

0:00:28 > 0:00:30President Donald Trump's decision to fire missiles at Syria.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Last night, America launched an attack on a Syrian military base

0:00:32 > 0:00:35because many countries and experts believe Syria used poisonous

0:00:35 > 0:00:41weapons, which is against the law, on a town earlier in the week.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43The Syrian government and its allies say it didn't.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Now Newsround has been reporting on all the different things that

0:00:46 > 0:00:48have been happening in Syria for a long time.

0:00:48 > 0:00:56So here's Ricky with how we've come to this point.

0:00:56 > 0:01:00OK, so let's take a closer look at what's going on in Syria.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03The country is here in the Middle East.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Close to Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10The trouble began in 2011 and for six years heavy fighting has

0:01:10 > 0:01:14destroyed much of the country.

0:01:14 > 0:01:19Well, it's hard to give one clear reason.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22But we do know that there are different groups trying

0:01:22 > 0:01:23to take control of Syria.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26And they're against this man, Syria's President Assad.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Rebel groups have all sorts of different ideas and views

0:01:28 > 0:01:31about the way the country should be run.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34There is also the group that calls itself Islamic State who are very

0:01:34 > 0:01:42extreme and also run parts of Iraq.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Many countries have got involved in Syria's war.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47The biggest two are Russia and America.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Russia supports the Syrian government and thinks

0:01:49 > 0:01:55President Assad should stay in charge.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58The US blames Syria's President for a lot of what's going on.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01But they haven't always been clear about what they

0:02:01 > 0:02:02want to do about him.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Well, in the last few years many families have been forced

0:02:04 > 0:02:05to leave their homes.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have died and millions more

0:02:09 > 0:02:11have left all together.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15This is part of the reason there are so many refugees from the country.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19The US President Donald Trump has ordered new attacks on Syria

0:02:19 > 0:02:21because he believes that President Assad used

0:02:21 > 0:02:24chemical weapons to kill many people in Syria.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26For many countries around the world using chemical weapons

0:02:26 > 0:02:32is totally unacceptable.

0:02:32 > 0:02:34But the Russians have criticised Trump's attacks and said that

0:02:34 > 0:02:37President Assad didn't use any chemical weapons.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40The UK government say they support America but right now British armed

0:02:40 > 0:02:44forces aren't involved.

0:02:44 > 0:02:49If you want to know more about what is happening in Syria

0:02:49 > 0:02:53there's lots of information in our online guide,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55which also explains what chemical weapons are and why there's such

0:02:55 > 0:02:58shock and anger when they're used.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01And if you're worried by this story or by anything you see in the news,

0:03:01 > 0:03:07there's also loads of advice over at Newsround online.

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Now, is it ever OK for you to take time off school to go on holiday?

0:03:11 > 0:03:14It's a question we've been asking you today after the top court

0:03:14 > 0:03:22in the UK ruled that it wasn't.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Loads of you have got in touch with your views about this.

0:03:43 > 0:03:51Thanks for all your comments, guys.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53And finally, Harry Styles' first ever song without the rest

0:03:53 > 0:03:55of One Direction has come out today.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57So we asked some of you what you really thought of it.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00# It's a sign of the times #.

0:04:00 > 0:04:01It wasn't what I expected.

0:04:01 > 0:04:02I expected something a bit better.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Sad but lively at the same time.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07If I was with my friends I would really listen to it

0:04:07 > 0:04:09because it is really slow.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12One Direction was more like happy and joyful and it made better songs,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15then when they separated, because when they separated they all

0:04:15 > 0:04:18started releasing sad songs.

0:04:18 > 0:04:27I like it but I feel like his voice goes too high.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39I like that he is not part of a group no more,

0:04:39 > 0:04:41he is doing it solo by himself.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43I would give it two out of five.

0:04:43 > 0:04:44Two out of five.

0:04:44 > 0:04:453.5 out of five.

0:04:45 > 0:04:46Three out of five.

0:04:46 > 0:04:474.5 out of five.

0:04:47 > 0:04:48Four out of five.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50One out of five.

0:04:50 > 0:04:51Newsround's back in the morning, guys.

0:04:51 > 0:05:01Have a great weekend.
