:00:07. > :00:10.It's Friday, 7th December, and you are live with Newsround, Ricky and

:00:10. > :00:12.Leah with you, guiding you through the day's big stories.

:00:12. > :00:16.Coming up: Politicians in Northern Ireland

:00:16. > :00:25.appeal for calm after the latest violence.

:00:25. > :00:28.Why there are fewer partridges in pear trees this Christmas.

:00:28. > :00:38.This is exciting, because we have always wanted to be on Newsround.

:00:38. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:51.We have all the news on the X First to Northern Ireland, where

:00:51. > :00:54.politicians are appealing for calm after recent violence. It began

:00:54. > :00:57.after a vote by councillors in Belfast to only fly the British

:00:57. > :01:01.flag over the main council building on special occasions and not every

:01:01. > :01:11.day. Today Hillary Clinton, who is America's foreign affairs minister,

:01:11. > :01:14.has been in Northern Ireland. But what are the chances of a peaceful

:01:14. > :01:16.solution? We have seen a lot of it lately on

:01:16. > :01:19.bunting at street parties and around the shoulders of Olympic

:01:19. > :01:21.medallists. The Union flag is a national symbol for the United

:01:21. > :01:26.Kingdom, representing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern

:01:26. > :01:34.Ireland. But this week, a decision to remove it from Belfast City Hall,

:01:34. > :01:39.in the capital of Northern Ireland, sparked violent protests.

:01:39. > :01:44.Here in Belfast, there are two broad groups of people, some who

:01:44. > :01:47.want Ireland to be one country, Northern Ireland and the Republic

:01:47. > :01:51.of Ireland altogether. There are others who want Northern Ireland to

:01:51. > :01:56.remain part of the United Kingdom with England, Scotland and Wales.

:01:56. > :02:01.For them, they are very angry when they look at Belfast City Hall

:02:01. > :02:04.today and see the Union flag is no longer there. They regard it as

:02:04. > :02:09.confirmation that they are part of the UK. They are angry that the

:02:09. > :02:12.flag has gone and are determined to bring it back. The council voted to

:02:12. > :02:19.only display the flag on a few special occasions a year. But for

:02:19. > :02:24.the unionists who are protesting, that isn't good enough.

:02:24. > :02:27.This is the latest in a long history of lock arguments over

:02:27. > :02:30.centuries. Here in Belfast, there are two broad groups of people -

:02:30. > :02:34.some who want Ireland to be one separate country, and others want

:02:34. > :02:37.it to remain part of the UK. After 30 years of violence, in what was

:02:37. > :02:39.known as the Troubles, leaders on both sides worked hard to find a

:02:39. > :02:42.peaceful solution. In 1998, they signed the Good Friday Agreement,

:02:42. > :02:45.which said they would run Northern Ireland together. Things have been

:02:45. > :02:47.much better since, but the differences are still there and

:02:47. > :02:50.this week's trouble shows how strongly some people still feel

:02:50. > :02:52.about their national identity. Ministers in Ireland are working on

:02:52. > :02:55.a plan to improve community relations, which would include

:02:55. > :02:58.rules on how and where flags are displayed. But history shows it

:02:58. > :03:01.will be difficult to make both sides happy.

:03:01. > :03:04.To Japan now, where an earthquake has struck off the east coast of

:03:04. > :03:08.the country. It triggered a metre- high tsunami, forcing people to

:03:08. > :03:12.leave their homes. So far, there have been no reports of any deaths

:03:12. > :03:22.or injuries. In March last year, the same coastline was hit by a

:03:22. > :03:33.

:03:33. > :03:36.much bigger earthquake and tsunami which killed nearly 20,000 people.

:03:36. > :03:39.Christopher, James and Jermaine will battle it out to win the X

:03:39. > :03:41.Factor this weekend. But it's not been an easy year for the TV talent

:03:41. > :03:45.show, with falling ratings, contestant drop-outs, and claims

:03:45. > :03:52.that it's all a fix! So we sent Hayley to find if the show's still

:03:52. > :03:59.got the X Factor. It is a cold day and just one I

:03:59. > :04:03.need something to warm me up... The X Factor final in Manchester!

:04:03. > :04:06.It is the third year the X Factor final has been outside London, so

:04:06. > :04:13.while I get cosy with the judges, it is a good time to find out who

:04:13. > :04:19.they think will win. I am excited to see James. He is brilliant. I

:04:19. > :04:27.would buy his album tomorrow. have looked Germain from day one.

:04:27. > :04:31.Our I am just grateful to be here. I have enjoyed it showing I am

:04:31. > :04:35.versatile. That is what music is about. Just do what you can with

:04:35. > :04:40.what you have. The brother judges and contestants are warming up,

:04:40. > :04:47.this year's ratings have not been so hot. We have seen the ratings

:04:48. > :04:52.drop a bit. Have you any idea why? Is it your fault? Yes! You know

:04:52. > :04:58.what, it goes up and down, but it is still a massive show. The X

:04:58. > :05:02.Factor has aired six times over the weekend. Collectively, we get a 19

:05:02. > :05:06.million viewers. That is what the stars thing, but we will have to

:05:06. > :05:09.wait to find out who takes home the final award.

:05:09. > :05:14."A partridge in a pear tree", goes the Christmas carol, except it

:05:14. > :05:17.seems there are fewer and fewer partridges in any trees right now.

:05:17. > :05:27.Or turtle doves, for that matter, that other bird mentioned in the

:05:27. > :05:27.

:05:27. > :05:31.song, as I've been finding out on a farm in Lancashire.

:05:31. > :05:41.The classic festive Carol 12 braves of Christmas Features turtle doves

:05:41. > :05:45.

:05:45. > :05:50.12 they are two types of birds wildlife conservationists say are

:05:50. > :05:54.facing disaster. These Christmas birds have seen major decline in

:05:54. > :05:59.the past few years. There are concerns for the turtle dove. It is

:05:59. > :06:02.now the UK's most endangered farmland bird. Experts say unless

:06:02. > :06:06.something is done, it could be wiped out from the British

:06:06. > :06:11.landscape. Her these birds need food, particularly in winter. They

:06:11. > :06:16.need lots of seeds to feed on. And in summer, they need lots of

:06:16. > :06:20.insects. Her the turtle dove is small, only slightly bigger than a

:06:20. > :06:25.blackbird. They make a distinctive sound and you might have heard them

:06:25. > :06:32.in the summer. And this is a grey partridge. Their numbers are also

:06:32. > :06:38.down by 30%. The current population stands at around 43,000 pairs. Any

:06:38. > :06:42.partridges on Milan today? I have not seen any today. We are putting

:06:42. > :06:49.wild bird mix doubt, which is like having a bird table in your garden,

:06:49. > :06:53.but on a far bigger scale. They will eat the seeds. The number of

:06:53. > :06:57.wild birds on farmland has fallen by more than 50% in the past 40

:06:57. > :07:07.years. Conservationists say more needs to be done fast to make sure

:07:07. > :07:10.our birds are protected. Sport now and UEFA - the

:07:10. > :07:13.organisation that runs European football - has made big changes to

:07:13. > :07:23.the Euro 2020 finals. Instead of being held in just one or two

:07:23. > :07:25.

:07:25. > :07:28.countries, the finals will be held in a number of cities across Europe.

:07:28. > :07:35.Critics say the new idea will make it too expensive for fans to travel

:07:36. > :07:39.and see matches, but our reporter says there will be some advantages.

:07:39. > :07:44.Fans at first were a bit sceptical in terms of travel arrangements and

:07:44. > :07:47.how they would make it from country to country. But of course, it gives

:07:47. > :07:52.the opportunity for fans in different countries to see

:07:52. > :07:56.different teams. It also gives football associations, the likes of

:07:56. > :08:03.Scotland, Wales and Ireland, the chance to bid for something that in

:08:03. > :08:06.the past, they might not have had the chance to do.

:08:06. > :08:10.Now, just because you are one of the most famous names in music,

:08:10. > :08:20.does not mean everyone knows who you are. That was what the rapper

:08:20. > :08:47.

:08:47. > :08:51.Jay-Z found out on a subway train That is all for now from the
