0:00:47 > 0:00:48and at least 20 schools are shut.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18In Keswick, the British Red Cross set up special

0:01:18 > 0:01:22centres for people looking for somewhere to stay for the night.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26And fire crews used small boats to rescue people, as water levels rose.

0:01:26 > 0:01:35It's not the first time people here have been affected by flooding.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Five years ago, heavy rain caused even more damage.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Flooding and landslides also brought disruption to Scotland, especially

0:01:40 > 0:01:46in the Borders and Tayside.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Already this morning, the clean-up operation has swung into action.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52The weather is expected to be drier this afternoon, but people are still

0:01:52 > 0:02:01being told to take extra care.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Well, the BBC's Sarah Corker has been in one of the worst hit places,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Carlisle, and explained what things are like this morning.

0:02:09 > 0:02:16the night to rescue people trapped in their homes here in Carlisle.
