0:01:14 > 0:01:16In Keswick, the British Red Cross set up special

0:01:16 > 0:01:19centres for people looking for somewhere to stay for the night.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22And fire crews used small boats to rescue people, as water levels rose.

0:01:22 > 0:01:30It's not the first time people here have been affected by flooding.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Five years ago, heavy rain caused even more damage.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Flooding and landslides also brought disruption to Scotland, especially

0:01:35 > 0:01:36in the Borders and Tayside.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38Already this morning, the clean-up operation has swung into action.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42The weather is expected to be drier this afternoon, but people are still

0:01:42 > 0:01:54being told to take extra care.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Well, Carlisle is one of the worst-hit places and, this morning,

0:01:57 > 0:02:02the police have been explaining how many people are still affected.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04There have been hundreds of people rescued in Carlisle alone,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06obviously significant numbers across the country.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07We have got about 5,000 houses flooded,

0:02:07 > 0:02:16we don't know exactly the numbers.

0:02:16 > 0:02:17From today, we are looking at recovery.

0:02:17 > 0:02:22In a lot of Cumbria now, the water has subsided.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25But, as you can see, we still have significant flooding.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29The problem is recovery will take a long time.
