:00:00. > :00:00.Hi, I'm Martin with all of Friday's top stories just for you.

:00:07. > :00:10.Find out what happens to your festive trees after christmas.

:00:11. > :00:32.Plus, the team making history in the FA Cup.

:00:33. > :00:40.Imagine what it would be like to make a phone call to space. A group

:00:41. > :00:43.of children had an assembly with a difference when they did just that

:00:44. > :00:48.and had a conversation with Tim Peake as he orbited above their

:00:49. > :00:55.heads. Today, the International Space Station crosses over this bit

:00:56. > :01:00.of earth for ten minutes. It is quite a small window in which the

:01:01. > :01:04.kids in this school will contact Tim Peake. They've been training for

:01:05. > :01:16.days for this. What training have you had? I had to take an exam and

:01:17. > :01:21.fit that into a few days. Just a few seconds to go until we get contact.

:01:22. > :01:30.We are feeling pretty nervous. Here we go. This is golf gravels Ciera

:01:31. > :01:48.Carling and standing by. I read you loud and clear, over.

:01:49. > :01:54.This is Jessica, from Saint old and is. Are you ready for your first

:01:55. > :02:01.question? I cannot believe that happened. It is not everyday you can

:02:02. > :02:06.speak to an astronaut in space. When we were making the phone call I was

:02:07. > :02:12.very nervous but when we heard his voice it blew our minds. I can tell

:02:13. > :02:14.you're shocked. It was out of this world.

:02:15. > :02:17.Now, lots of you will have said goodbye to your Christmas

:02:18. > :02:20.decorations this week, but what have you done with them?

:02:21. > :02:22.I've been to a recycling plant where they're giving old trees

:02:23. > :02:26.a new lease of life... There's nothing quite like the magic

:02:27. > :02:29.of a Christmas tree but come the start of January,

:02:30. > :02:32.a good way to put your tree to use And I've come to this waste centre

:02:33. > :02:38.in Greater Manchester to see These trees have been taken

:02:39. > :02:43.from people's houses and over there is household waste -

:02:44. > :02:49.but because of that it really But the good thing is these trees

:02:50. > :03:01.will be broken down in these big machines next to me

:03:02. > :03:09.and eventually made into compost. That is good for the environment but

:03:10. > :03:15.I will put my mask back on. As well as compost, trees can be

:03:16. > :03:18.made into wood chippings that can be And if your tree came in a pot,

:03:19. > :03:23.it could even be replanted The Carbon Trust, who are

:03:24. > :03:29.an environmental organisation, say that all these options

:03:30. > :03:32.are better than trees ending up in our non-recyclable waste,

:03:33. > :03:49.where they would decompose. We are interested in finding out

:03:50. > :03:54.whether real trees or artificial trees are better for the environment

:03:55. > :03:58.and the answer is real trees are better, artificial trees are made

:03:59. > :04:02.far-away in places like China, and are shipped over here. More people

:04:03. > :04:06.are recycling the Christmas trees because they are aware of the fact

:04:07. > :04:11.that it is a good thing to do and the local government are providing

:04:12. > :04:16.better facilities to turn them into new things.

:04:17. > :04:17.better facilities to turn them into Well this

:04:18. > :04:20.is what the trees I've seen today will end up as -

:04:21. > :04:23.bags of compost that can be used in our gardens and parks -

:04:24. > :04:25.and maybe even used to grow more Christmas trees.

:04:26. > :04:28.Football now, and tomorrow sees an FA Cup tie 70 years

:04:29. > :04:31.Non-league side Eastleigh FC scored these goals against Stourbridge

:04:32. > :04:34.to make it into the 3rd round of the FA Cup for the first

:04:35. > :04:39.The team, known as the Spitfires, are the only non-league side left

:04:40. > :04:44.They'll be visited tomorrow by Championship team Bolton

:04:45. > :04:48.For more on Eastleigh's FA Cup tie and the rest of the week

:04:49. > :04:55.in football, don't miss tomorrow morning's Match

:04:56. > :04:58.That's all for today, Newsround's back in the morning.
