0:00:04 > 0:00:07Good morning, I'm Hayley and I'm live with all you need

0:00:07 > 0:00:10to know this morning.

0:00:10 > 0:00:14The kids on a mission to ban plastic straws in Scotland.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17The skater from Saudi skating the world by storm.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20And the highest party in the world.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34It's thought here in the UK we use more than 8 billion

0:00:34 > 0:00:36plastic straws every year.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39So a group of kids in Scotland are on a mission to get them banned.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43It's because they want to help protect our planet and cut

0:00:43 > 0:00:45the amount of plastic that gets thrown away.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Whitney has this...

0:00:48 > 0:00:50They've already convinced Glasgow Council, the biggest

0:00:50 > 0:00:52in Scotland to ditch

0:00:52 > 0:00:53plastic straws but their mission

0:00:53 > 0:00:55doesn't stop there.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58These kids are taking the ferry to the Isle of

0:00:58 > 0:01:00Arran.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Around 5000 people live there and they want them to quit using

0:01:03 > 0:01:05them too.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07There is, like, animals out there in danger because they are

0:01:07 > 0:01:10eating plastic.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13What do you hope to do with this campaign?

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Try and stop plastic straws from being used.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18And start using, like, paper straws.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20It's our future and we need to make sure

0:01:20 > 0:01:25that it's not all gone when we grow up.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28They call themselves the Ocean Defenders.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30A lot of plastic when it's thrown away ends

0:01:30 > 0:01:33up in the sea.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35It can stay there for hundreds of years because it doesnt

0:01:35 > 0:01:38rot like a paper straw would.

0:01:38 > 0:01:42This means it's harmful to both animals and the environment.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44They're talking to other kids about what

0:01:44 > 0:01:48they're doing so they can do the same.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51I hadn't really thought about it but now the presentation has

0:01:51 > 0:01:55taught me a lot more about it, it's very different now.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57I think the most surprising and interesting thing is

0:01:57 > 0:02:00how much this does affect the environment.

0:02:00 > 0:02:07You wouldn't expect that from wee, tiny plastic straws.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08We could speak to some

0:02:08 > 0:02:10of the cafes on the island

0:02:10 > 0:02:12because I know a lot of

0:02:12 > 0:02:15the cafes sell plastic straws so if we could maybe get them

0:02:15 > 0:02:17to change to paper straws it would be really

0:02:17 > 0:02:18good.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21We're trying to make people stop expecting a straw in their

0:02:21 > 0:02:24drink.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26They are so knowledgeable and they're really confident and

0:02:26 > 0:02:27passionate, the way they speak.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Did you find the arguments persuasive, you got plastic

0:02:29 > 0:02:30straws...

0:02:30 > 0:02:31Absolutely.

0:02:31 > 0:02:32Absolutely.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35This is my naughty pot, naughty pot no more.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39You go, guys!

0:02:39 > 0:02:44Well done, guys, food job!

0:02:44 > 0:02:47The FA Cup dream is over) for League 2 side Newport County.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49They played premier league giants Tottenham at Wembley last night.

0:02:49 > 0:02:50But lost 2-0.

0:02:50 > 0:02:51Spurs will now face Rochdale.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Next, meet the extreme ice skater from Saudi Arabia -

0:02:54 > 0:02:57who's moved to Liverpool in England to share his incredible skating

0:02:57 > 0:03:00skills with the world.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Growing in Saudi Arabia you don't really see much ice.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12When I came I first came to Liverpool people

0:03:12 > 0:03:14doesn't expect someone from an Arabic country to come

0:03:14 > 0:03:20and present something new.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35I got into ice skating when my sister started

0:03:35 > 0:03:38ice-skating as figure skater when we were young and since then

0:03:38 > 0:03:41I started going there with her.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Every time I go the coach would see me trying to do flips

0:03:44 > 0:03:47even though I was small and I started watching

0:03:47 > 0:03:48aggressive skating and line

0:03:48 > 0:03:51skating and nobody knew there was

0:03:51 > 0:03:53something in the middle called extreme where you could just jump,

0:03:53 > 0:03:56break dance.

0:04:02 > 0:04:03It's a physical sport.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06You train your hands, your legs, your blood circulation, it

0:04:06 > 0:04:10helps your fitness wise, it helps in your confidence

0:04:10 > 0:04:13once you get used to it, the first basic thing I tell

0:04:13 > 0:04:16everybody that's never skated, your mind is your

0:04:16 > 0:04:18boundaries, try a jump, if
