0:00:29 > 0:00:34Your emoji keyboard is about to get a whole lot bigger!

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Loads of new emojis have been confirmed and Hayley's been finding

0:00:36 > 0:00:40out what you can look forward to.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42Finally the emoji I've always wanted!

0:00:42 > 0:00:44No, not the llama.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47No, not the abacus.

0:00:47 > 0:00:49No, not the microbe either.

0:00:49 > 0:00:51It's the super hero emojis.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54I've always wanted to send that one to my mum!

0:00:54 > 0:00:58It's one of more than 150 new emojis that will be heading to your phone

0:00:58 > 0:00:59or tablet this year.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Others include a person with red hair, curly hair,

0:01:01 > 0:01:03bald head, party face,

0:01:03 > 0:01:06tooth, leg, loo roll,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08teddy bear, soap,

0:01:08 > 0:01:14lobster, hot face, cold face, peacock, and skateboard.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17There's no news yet on the frowning poo emoji, which was

0:01:17 > 0:01:19rumoured to be on its way,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22but all the others will be here some time this year.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25We just don't know exactly when yet.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29It's thought here in the UK we use more

0:01:29 > 0:01:32than 8 billion plastic straws every year.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36So a group of kids in Scotland are on a mission to get them banned.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38It's because they want to help protect our planet and cut

0:01:38 > 0:01:41the amount of plastic that gets thrown away.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Whitney has more.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48They have already convinced Glasgow Council, the biggest

0:01:48 > 0:01:50in Scotland, to ditch plastic straws, but their mission

0:01:50 > 0:01:53doesn't stop there.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57These kids are taking the ferry to the Isle of Arran.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Around 5,000 people live there and they want them

0:01:59 > 0:02:03to quit using them too.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05There's, like, animals out there who are in danger

0:02:05 > 0:02:07because they eat plastic.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09What do you hope to do with this campaign?

0:02:09 > 0:02:12Just try and stop plastic straws being used and start

0:02:12 > 0:02:15using paper straws.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18It's our future and we need to make sure it's not

0:02:18 > 0:02:22all gone when we grow up.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25They call themselves the Ocean Defenders.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29A lot of plastic, when it's thrown away, ends up in the sea.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32It can stay there for hundreds of years because it doesn't rot

0:02:32 > 0:02:36like a paper straw would.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40This means it's harmful to both animals and the environment.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43They are talking to other kids about what they're doing

0:02:43 > 0:02:45so they can do the same.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49I hadn't really thought about it but now the presentation has told me

0:02:49 > 0:02:52a lot more about it, and it is very different now.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55I find the most surprising and interesting thing is how much

0:02:55 > 0:02:58this does affect the environment.

0:02:58 > 0:03:02You wouldn't expect that from wee tiny plastic straws.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05We can speak to some of the cafes on the island because I know a lot

0:03:05 > 0:03:09of the cafes do sell plastic straws, so if we can maybe get them

0:03:09 > 0:03:13to change to the paper straws it would be really good.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16We are trying to make people stop expecting a straw in the drink.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19They are so knowledgeable and they are really

0:03:19 > 0:03:21confident and passionate in the way they speak.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22Did you find their arguments persuasive?

0:03:22 > 0:03:26Absolutely, yes.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28This is my naughty pot.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Naughty pot no more.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34You go, guys!

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Next to a dog that needed a helping hand from some passing firefighters

0:03:37 > 0:03:38in Oklahoma in the US.

0:03:38 > 0:03:45Don't worry, it has a happy ending!

0:04:28 > 0:04:31I was dancing away, I love the music on that one!

0:04:31 > 0:04:33Finally, we're more used to seeing Paris like this...

0:04:33 > 0:04:34or like this...than like this.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37More than 12cms of snow has fallen in France's capital city.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40But people have been making the most of the weather.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42Skiing on the streets and in the parks and sledging

0:04:42 > 0:04:50wherever they can find a slope.

0:04:50 > 0:04:55Tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea,

0:04:55 > 0:04:59so why not head to Newsround online and find out which Winter sport

0:04:59 > 0:05:02would suit you. That's all for today,
