:00:18. > :00:31.I'm in Kent in south-east England. Over there is France and as you can

:00:32. > :00:36.see, there are fairies bringing people back and forth across the

:00:37. > :00:41.endless -- English Channel. This is also the point where many migrants

:00:42. > :00:46.reach the UK. Some of them are children. Last year, more than 3000

:00:47. > :00:50.children arrived in the UK alone. I wanted to find out what it was like

:00:51. > :00:54.to make that journey and to start a new life in the UK. I met with

:00:55. > :01:00.grief. She was 14 which you left her home in Eritrea in Africa and

:01:01. > :01:07.travelled for more than six months to reach the UK. To protect her, we

:01:08. > :01:11.have used an animation and changed her voice.

:01:12. > :01:13.My home in Eritrea is in a small village.

:01:14. > :01:15.I've got six brothers and two sisters.

:01:16. > :01:17.From my house, I could see mountains and fields.

:01:18. > :01:20.There was no water or no school there so I had to walk two

:01:21. > :01:24.When I wasn't at school, I helped my mum on the farm.

:01:25. > :01:27.I would get the water and I would chop the wood.

:01:28. > :01:31.He left five years ago and we don't know where he is.

:01:32. > :01:39.If you are 14, you have to get married.

:01:40. > :01:42.I said I wanted to study but they said I had to marry.

:01:43. > :01:47.I didn't know the boy who I was supposed to marry.

:01:48. > :02:01.It was about four o'clock when I left my home.

:02:02. > :02:11.I couldn't say goodbye to my family because I knew my mum would cry.

:02:12. > :02:12.We walked for two days to leave Ethiopia.

:02:13. > :02:19.We were nervous because there was lots of hyenas all around us.

:02:20. > :02:32.When we got to the border, there were military.

:02:33. > :02:40.If they caught us, they would put us in prison.

:02:41. > :02:44.We walked for three weeks to get from Ethiopia to Sudan.

:02:45. > :02:51.Most of the people with me died on that walk because they

:02:52. > :02:56.When I got to Sudan, I got taken to a house.

:02:57. > :02:59.It was small and there were many people there.

:03:00. > :03:03.The people from that country hated us because we were Christians.

:03:04. > :03:09.If you went outside, then they took you and hurt you.

:03:10. > :03:19.There were many people, more than 250 in the lorry.

:03:20. > :03:24.I was inside but there was nowhere to sit, so I had to stand.

:03:25. > :03:27.We were not allowed to get out of the lorry, even

:03:28. > :03:36.I was in the lorry for three weeks, then I arrived at a camp in Libya.

:03:37. > :03:40.If we wanted anything, we had to sign with our hands,

:03:41. > :03:48.because if you were caught talking, the people traffickers

:03:49. > :04:04.We nearly died at one point because the water got into the boat.

:04:05. > :04:07.When we arrived in Italy, we didn't have anywhere to go.

:04:08. > :04:17.Then I got on a train and went to France and to a camp.

:04:18. > :04:20.Every night, we tried to climb onto a lorry to get

:04:21. > :04:22.to England and every night, the police took us back.

:04:23. > :04:25.We tried many, many times, then one night, I managed to get

:04:26. > :04:32.When I first saw England, I was taken by police.

:04:33. > :04:37.They asked us many questions, but then I got sent to a foster

:04:38. > :04:46.I miss my mum and my family but I don't miss Eritrea.

:04:47. > :04:51.I don't know the language or culture here.

:04:52. > :04:55.I like that I go to school and I like to study.
