:00:21. > :00:24.Hi guys. Welcome to Newsround with Ore and Hayley. We've got eight

:00:24. > :00:28.minutes of Newsround that will blow you away. Not literally. We've had

:00:28. > :00:31.enough of that all day! Coming up: Why Wayne Rooney and his England

:00:31. > :00:36.team have picked up an early Christmas present.

:00:36. > :00:41.And we've got the bewitching mystery of the mummified cat.

:00:41. > :00:43.But before any of that, we've got to talk about the weather! Hundreds

:00:44. > :00:46.of schools across Scotland were shut today and thousands of homes

:00:46. > :00:53.are without electricity because of hurricane-force winds of up to 165

:00:53. > :00:57.mph. Forecasters are warning that other parts of the UK could be hit

:00:57. > :01:00.by huge gusts too. The bad weather has even seen a royal visit in the

:01:00. > :01:10.North East of England cancelled. I braved the elements to bring you

:01:10. > :01:13.

:01:13. > :01:16.more. One school playground in Scotland but no pupils today. The

:01:16. > :01:20.Scottish Government told schools across west, central and southern

:01:20. > :01:23.parts of the country they needed to close early or not open, because of

:01:23. > :01:27.the harsh weather battering the country. The Met Office, the people

:01:27. > :01:34.who tell us what the weather is going to be like, issued its

:01:35. > :01:38.highest warning - a red alert. In north Ayrshire this bus overturned.

:01:38. > :01:43.Only the driver was on board. He escaped with minor injuries.

:01:43. > :01:47.There's been flooding in a number of areas. That's meant not just

:01:47. > :01:51.closing schools but the roads leading to them. Even Scotland's

:01:51. > :01:57.top football players weren't protected from the weather. Players

:01:57. > :02:01.from Hibs were forced to abandon their training. What's causing it

:02:01. > :02:04.all? Most of our weather comes from the Atlantic and movers up the

:02:04. > :02:08.United Kingdom. This has been a storm developing over the last 24

:02:08. > :02:13.hours. It is Noye over Scotland. The white lines tightly packed

:02:13. > :02:18.together. That means strong winds to the far north of the UK today.

:02:18. > :02:23.Could we be back at school tomorrow? Probably. The winds will

:02:23. > :02:26.ease tonight. Tomorrow, much quieter conditions, but much colder

:02:26. > :02:32.tomorrow. It is not just Scotland that's been affected. The rest of

:02:32. > :02:37.the UK has taken a bit of a battering too, as you can see. And

:02:37. > :02:41.a faulty ferry and strong winds on the Irish Sea has led to disruption

:02:41. > :02:43.to supplies goes to the isle of man. They've got a few shops with empty

:02:43. > :02:46.shelves. Wow!

:02:46. > :02:49.Well, all day on-line we've been asking what the weather's like

:02:49. > :02:52.where you are. Tamzin, who's 11 from Ayr says, "It's so windy here

:02:52. > :02:55.that our gate blew off and was lying in the middle of the road."

:02:55. > :03:03.Heather from Livingstone says, "We were having a school play today but

:03:03. > :03:07.it's been cancelled because of the Had the main part!

:03:07. > :03:10.Next - Wayne Rooney's had a bit of a topsy-turvy 24 hours. Last night

:03:10. > :03:13.his team, Man United, failed to get to the knock-out stages of the

:03:13. > :03:17.Champions League! But then today he found out his Euro 2012 ban has

:03:17. > :03:21.been reduced to two matches. He was set to miss all three of England's

:03:21. > :03:24.group games next summer after being sent off in their last qualifier.

:03:24. > :03:28.But they appealed and he'll now be available for England's final group

:03:28. > :03:31.game, against Ukraine. The sports news doesn't end there,

:03:31. > :03:35.because the first runners for the 2012 Olympics have been named, and

:03:35. > :03:38.without a single athlete in sight. That's right. Almost 7,000 people

:03:38. > :03:42.who applied to be Olympic torchbearers found out they were

:03:42. > :03:47.successful today. They'll carry it across the country by land, sea and

:03:47. > :03:52.air ahead of the Games. Rachel, who's blind and a leader of a local

:03:52. > :03:56.railway conservation project, was one of the lucky ones. I can't

:03:56. > :04:00.believe it. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be involved

:04:00. > :04:02.in such a historical event. Now, Hallowe'en might be a distant

:04:02. > :04:06.memory, but that hasn't stopped something spooky happening in one

:04:06. > :04:09.town in Lancashire. The remains of a mummified cat have been found in

:04:09. > :04:12.what scientists think is an old witch's house. It was discovered in

:04:12. > :04:22.a sealed doorway and had been there for at least 200 years. Some people

:04:22. > :04:28.

:04:28. > :04:32.say it was put there to protect the house from an evil curse! Scary.

:04:32. > :04:39.The little moggy's nine lives had run out, which can't be said for

:04:39. > :04:44.Drago. Who, I hear you cry? Joe has the details.

:04:44. > :04:48.Drago is a cat that's been places. This moggy drove his owner's wild

:04:48. > :04:55.with despair after he mysteriously went missing for two weeks. Andrew

:04:55. > :05:02.had almost given up looking for him but then he noticed a strange noise

:05:02. > :05:06.coming from his engine. I heard him miaowing and there was Drago. After

:05:06. > :05:16.two weeks stuck in there, through a little hole. His head was there and

:05:16. > :05:18.

:05:18. > :05:23.Drago had been inside the envy for 12 trips across town from his home

:05:23. > :05:28.to Hull. All in all that's 60 miles stuck in the engine, within a

:05:28. > :05:32.whisker of his worried owner. He went 14 days without food or water

:05:32. > :05:36.and lost half his body weight in the process. But after using at

:05:36. > :05:42.least a few of his nine lives, Drago is back home safe and sound.

:05:42. > :05:47.It is nice to hear Andrew's car is back purring again too.

:05:48. > :05:52.If there are two boys that love Newsround it is Jedward. They love

:05:52. > :05:57.a bit of round news so much that they asked our Leah if she wanted

:05:57. > :06:04.to hang out. They invited her on their tour bus and even brought her

:06:04. > :06:10.a costume to wear. Here I come, dumdy dum. We were talking about

:06:10. > :06:16.what's inside there. I said is there a jacuzzi? Tour buses are

:06:17. > :06:26.always different. Some tour buss have recording studios, jacuzzis,

:06:26. > :06:32.and pools, bedrooms. And then they were off. Wait for us! Their fans

:06:32. > :06:36.travelled from all over the place. According to the boys, they are

:06:36. > :06:42.Jedicated. These lot were here from 2 in the afternoon. The concert

:06:42. > :06:46.didn't start for another five hours. Now we are firm friends it was time

:06:46. > :06:53.to hang out in the dressing room. But not before some dance. When

:06:53. > :07:00.they are not on tour they use video games. We use a cool video, you can

:07:00. > :07:05.see it on Jedward T the last time we were here at Hammersmith Apollo

:07:05. > :07:10.was boot camp for X Factor. It was so nerve-racking. It was cool to

:07:10. > :07:16.come back and have our own concert. You are amazing but you've got to

:07:16. > :07:21.go. Get out of here! Bye! Jedward, this has been our backstage thing

:07:21. > :07:25.with Leeia. It is totally cool. Thank you guys for watching.

:07:25. > :07:28.They are mad. Last up - The final three nominees for Young Sports

:07:28. > :07:32.Personality of the Year have been announced. Ore can tell us more.

:07:32. > :07:35.It's an all-girl shortlist. Up for the award are cycling supremo Lucy

:07:35. > :07:37.Garner, who become the junior road race world champion. Queen of the

:07:37. > :07:46.clubs Lauren Taylor, who this year became the youngest ever Ladies'

:07:46. > :07:48.Open amateur champion. How about this for a putt? And swimming

:07:48. > :07:53.sensation Ellie Simmonds, who won two European gold medals. The

:07:53. > :07:56.decision was made by a panel of sporting experts, including me! The
