:00:48. > :00:55.This was the Europe 80 years ago. Many people were fleeing the Nazis,
:00:56. > :01:01.who killed many people in Europe in what is now known as the Holocaust.
:01:02. > :01:08.Seven out of ten Jewish people living in Europe were killed. Alf

:02:26. > :02:29.What did you hope would happen? I hope several thousand of them should
:02:30. > :02:34.come to Britain. I never said they should all come to Britain will stop
:02:35. > :02:38.I hoped they would find safety, love and affection after all the terrible
:02:39. > :02:43.experiences. The Government said 200 loan children had been brought to
:02:44. > :02:47.Britain under the scheme, set up by Alf dubs and it would close after
:02:48. > :02:52.another 150 would be settled in the UK. There was a row about whether
:02:53. > :03:00.the UK Government has done enough to help. Alf Dubs does not think so. I
:03:01. > :03:03.am disappointed. For these children, there was hope for the better life.
:03:04. > :03:11.I hope the Government is feeling ashamed. The Government says it has
:03:12. > :03:13.helped unaccompanied children and it encourages children to make a
:03:14. > :03:19.dangerous journey across Europe. What do you say to that? I do not
:03:20. > :03:24.agree with the arguments. We can take some, we have to be asked. You
:03:25. > :03:27.cannot say, because some might come we will ignore the ones in Europe
:03:28. > :03:33.anyway for some it is awful. You cannot turn our backs on them. What
:03:34. > :03:38.do you think will happen? We need to look very hard at every opportunity
:03:39. > :03:39.to change their minds. We asked the Government to respond. They told
:03:40. > :03:51.us... 20,000 Syrians will be getting a new
