0:00:12 > 0:00:15Hi, Ayshah here with your Friday morning Newsround.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18And it's a big day for sport fans, the opening ceremony
0:00:18 > 0:00:20for the Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang is
0:00:20 > 0:00:22later this morning.
0:00:22 > 0:00:26Kate Grey is there for BBC Sport, and she sent us this.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29Hello, Newsround, welcome to Pyeongchang.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32It's the day of the opening ceremony, which will see Owen Pick,
0:00:32 > 0:00:35a snowboarder, lead out Great Britain as the flagbearer.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38He is one of three snowboarders competing for Great Britain
0:00:38 > 0:00:42for the first time at a Winter Paralympics.
0:00:42 > 0:00:44Now, elsewhere, there'll be lots of medal chances
0:00:44 > 0:00:46in the Alpine skiing, with Kelly Gallagher,
0:00:46 > 0:00:49Menna Fitzpatrick and Millie Knight, who all have a visual impairment
0:00:49 > 0:00:52and will be guided down the mountain - they have great chances of medals.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55And for the first time in 20 years, Great Britain will be represented
0:00:55 > 0:00:57in the Nordic skiing, and Scott Meenagh will be
0:00:57 > 0:01:00that representative, competing in six out of eight days.
0:01:00 > 0:01:03And also we can't forget the wheelchair curlers -
0:01:03 > 0:01:04they got a bronze in Sochi,
0:01:04 > 0:01:08they'll be hoping to better it here in Pyeongchang.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10As Kate said, one of Britain's biggest medal hopes
0:01:10 > 0:01:13is visually impaired skier Millie knight.
0:01:13 > 0:01:17Four years ago, aged 15, she came fifth at the Sochi Olympics,
0:01:17 > 0:01:19but this time around,
0:01:19 > 0:01:22she's told us she wants to go one better.
0:01:24 > 0:01:27I'd say it's much easier that I can't see.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30I ski with Brett, who skis in front of me, and we talk
0:01:30 > 0:01:33all the way down the mountain, you know, what the snow is like,
0:01:33 > 0:01:36what the terrain is like, and then I'll say whether we're
0:01:36 > 0:01:38going too quickly or too slowly.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40The way it works is, we're attached by a Bluetooth headset,
0:01:40 > 0:01:43and I wear a bright orange jacket, which kind of stands out.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46I tell Millie everything I can see, what's coming up,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48if there's a change of terrain, change in the course,
0:01:48 > 0:01:50and Millie just feeds back if I'm skiing too fast,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53too slow, if she can see me.
0:01:56 > 0:01:58Yeah, she was, she was my first guide.
0:01:58 > 0:02:00We actually won a bronze, which was really exciting,
0:02:00 > 0:02:02but we got disqualified in all the others.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05But that is fine, we'll concentrate on the bronze!
0:02:05 > 0:02:09My coach said that I needed someone permanent.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12Slash faster!
0:02:17 > 0:02:20So when I went to Sochi, there was no pressure at all,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22I was just going just to compete, see what it's like,
0:02:22 > 0:02:24have a bit of a fun time.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26But now it's very different, now it's very much more
0:02:26 > 0:02:28about my performance, you know, getting medals
0:02:28 > 0:02:31is a little bit more pressure.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37Brett is normally much better in the start gate than me,
0:02:37 > 0:02:38he's very calm and relaxed.
0:02:38 > 0:02:42We talk through the course a lot.
0:02:42 > 0:02:45I make sure Millie is OK, because she goes quite quiet
0:02:45 > 0:02:49sometimes in the start gate.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52We now do this thing where, because Millie is such a big
0:02:52 > 0:02:55Script fan, she stands in the start and says, "I can be the greatest,
0:02:55 > 0:02:58I can be the best, I can be the King Kong, banging on my chest."
0:03:01 > 0:03:05For me, losing my sight is the best thing that ever happened to me.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08And you know, through that, I've got into sport, which, again,
0:03:08 > 0:03:10totally has totally built me as a person, you know.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13I have so much more confidence through skiing, I've made so many
0:03:13 > 0:03:16new friends and been to amazing places that really, you know,
0:03:16 > 0:03:20without sport, I wouldn't have done, and I just say give any sport a go,
0:03:20 > 0:03:27it doesn't matter which sport you do, just try it.
0:03:27 > 0:03:28Next up, it's Mother's Day this Sunday,
0:03:28 > 0:03:33and we've been asking the Newsround team about their mums.
0:03:33 > 0:03:35My mum is...
0:03:41 > 0:03:43A bit of a prankster!
0:03:46 > 0:03:51For such a small person, my mum has the biggest heart.
0:03:51 > 0:03:56My mum is the most supportive person you can ever imagine.
0:03:56 > 0:03:58What I really love about my mum is that she's so positive,
0:03:58 > 0:04:01she will make you feel good about yourself straight away,
0:04:01 > 0:04:03even when you're feeling really down or low.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07She always thinks of others before herself, and she will always make
0:04:07 > 0:04:09sure that you're looked after, given the best guidance,
0:04:09 > 0:04:12and sent on your way - probably with an amazing picnic
0:04:12 > 0:04:15in tow as well.
0:04:15 > 0:04:18She's always encouraged us to do the best that we can,
0:04:18 > 0:04:21and be the best that we can be at all times.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24And she taught me and my young brother to be pretty respectful
0:04:24 > 0:04:29and nice human beings.
0:04:29 > 0:04:37Everything that I've ever done, she's always been there for me,
0:04:39 > 0:04:41even every time I am on telly, to this day,
0:04:41 > 0:04:44she'll text me and she'll say, well done, you look great.
0:04:44 > 0:04:48She never says anything negative, even if I think something
0:04:48 > 0:04:51has gone terribly, awfully wrong, I look at my phone and there's
0:04:51 > 0:04:53a message from my mum saying, you're amazing.
0:04:53 > 0:04:56I'm so proud to call my mum.
0:04:56 > 0:04:59Every day, I try to be as good as her, and I think I fail,
0:04:59 > 0:05:04but she sets the bar pretty high.
0:05:04 > 0:05:08Your mum is that one person who can lift your spirits,
0:05:08 > 0:05:10and my mum does it in so many different ways from being really
0:05:10 > 0:05:13cheeky to throwing a few pranks my way as well.
0:05:13 > 0:05:15She likes to do that quite a bit too.
0:05:15 > 0:05:16I love you, Mum.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19Well, that's what we had to say about the special women
0:05:19 > 0:05:24in our lives, but what about you?
0:05:24 > 0:05:28We'd love to hear about the women who look after you and make you feel
0:05:28 > 0:05:30great, whether it's your mum, stepmum, granny, or a
0:05:30 > 0:05:31carer or someone else.
0:05:31 > 0:05:34Go to Newsround online and tell us what makes them so great.
0:05:34 > 0:05:36While you're there, you can find out
0:05:36 > 0:05:39why today's an important day for your smartphone,
0:05:39 > 0:05:44plus don't miss this incredible video of a nosey pair of penguins.
0:05:44 > 0:05:47So cute!
0:05:47 > 0:05:50That's all from us this morning.
0:05:50 > 0:05:57Ricky will be here at 4:20 this afternoon.
