:00:23. > :00:29.Hi everyone. It's Tuesday, 9th October. I'm Nel. I'm Hayley and

:00:29. > :00:32.we're live with today's Newsround. The man trying to fall to Earth

:00:32. > :00:39.faster than the speed of sound. And how this cheerleader broke a

:00:39. > :00:43.flipping amazing record! But first, today saw the opening of a massive

:00:43. > :00:46.new training centre for England's top footballers. It's been a long

:00:46. > :00:49.time coming and cost a lot of cash, but the Football Association hope

:00:49. > :00:53.it'll turn around England's fortunes in World Cups and other

:00:53. > :00:56.big tournaments in the future. It's in Staffordshire, right in the

:00:56. > :01:06.heart of England, so I went down this morning to see what all the

:01:06. > :01:07.

:01:07. > :01:11.fuss is about. It's home to 24 England teams and there's been a

:01:11. > :01:16.total investment of over 100 million. Welcome to St George's km

:01:16. > :01:21.park. It's the FA's new National Football Centre. It has taken over

:01:21. > :01:25.ten years to build and cost 120 million and today it opens its

:01:25. > :01:29.doors for the very first time. The England team are training for the

:01:29. > :01:34.World Cup qualifyer this Friday. The pitch has been made as an exact

:01:34. > :01:39.replica of the Wembley pitch. But this place isn't just for Roy

:01:39. > :01:46.Hodgson's men, but it's the home of the ladies' side and the next

:01:46. > :01:49.generation of the younger players. It would be nice to see youngsters

:01:49. > :01:54.hopefully getting an early wow factor. Great place to come and

:01:54. > :01:59.they want to be with the England teams through the age. Can they

:01:59. > :02:03.stay through to the seniors? It's an aspirational home now. All the

:02:03. > :02:08.pieces of the jigsaw are here. We'll have to wait to see if the

:02:08. > :02:13.last piece can be put in place - winning the World Cup. It looked

:02:13. > :02:17.amazing. I was this close to Wayne Rooney and the whole team playing a

:02:17. > :02:25.match. But how will St George's Park actually work and will it

:02:25. > :02:30.really help England win trophies in the future? I've been finding out.

:02:30. > :02:34.1966, a year when England was at the top of their game, winning the

:02:34. > :02:39.World Cup. Since then, though, things haven't been so rosy. It's

:02:40. > :02:44.been 16 years since the men's team reached a semi-finals of a major

:02:44. > :02:48.international tournament and that's why the FA is looking to some of

:02:48. > :02:51.football's super powers, France and Spain for inspiration. They have

:02:51. > :02:55.centres of excellence just like St George's Park. We are coming to

:02:55. > :02:58.this quite late. We've been talking about building one for over ten

:02:58. > :03:02.years now. Is the centre going to make a difference for the next

:03:02. > :03:06.World Cup? This is about ten years away. I don't think even the one

:03:06. > :03:10.after in 2018. It's a long-term thing. Spending money to get the

:03:10. > :03:14.best facilities has worked before. This is the national cycling centre

:03:14. > :03:19.in Manchester, where the Olympic stars like Sir Chris Hoy and

:03:19. > :03:23.Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton train. It's been open for

:03:23. > :03:28.18 years and in the cyclists have gradually improved. Storming to the

:03:29. > :03:33.top of the medals tables at the last two Olympics. The FA's hoping

:03:33. > :03:37.this will have the same effect on England's footballers, but with the

:03:37. > :03:40.players still having to split their time and efforts between club and

:03:40. > :03:44.country, will things change and will we see another World Cup win

:03:44. > :03:47.for England? We'll just have to wait and find out. Staying with

:03:47. > :03:50.football and it's not been a good day for Bolton Wanderers' boss,

:03:50. > :03:56.Owen Coyle, who's been sacked by the club. Bolton were relegated

:03:56. > :03:59.from the Premier League last season. And they've continued to struggle

:03:59. > :04:01.in the Championship. Coyle was praised for the support he gave to

:04:01. > :04:04.Fabrice Muamba earlier this year after the Bolton midfielder had a

:04:04. > :04:14.heart attack on the pitch. Wonder how that cheerleader's getting on?

:04:14. > :04:17.

:04:17. > :04:20.Let's have a look. More on that in a bit. Next, to a man who certainly

:04:20. > :04:23.isn't scared of heights. Let's check up on Austrian skydiver,

:04:23. > :04:33.Felix Baumartner, who's waiting to see if he'll be able to perform the

:04:33. > :04:33.

:04:33. > :04:36.highest, fastest skydive of all time. The weather's delayed his

:04:36. > :04:39.attempt this afternoon. They're hoping to get the balloon inflated

:04:40. > :04:42.in the next hour or so. When he does make the jump, it'll be from

:04:43. > :04:46.the edge of Earth's atmosphere and he'll freefall at more than 700

:04:46. > :04:51.miles an hour, breaking the speed of sound. It's very dangerous and

:04:51. > :04:55.two people have died trying to break the record in the past. And,

:04:55. > :04:57.if you want to find out more about how he does that jump from his

:04:57. > :05:01.ultra-thin balloon to his pressurised space suit, head over

:05:01. > :05:09.to the Newsround website right now. There's a page with all the facts

:05:09. > :05:11.and you can see my interview with the man himself too. Next, to a new

:05:11. > :05:14.conservation project with a difference in the Peak District.

:05:14. > :05:17.It's hoped that these tiny green beads called moss balls could help

:05:17. > :05:20.bring back life to hills across northern England, They have been

:05:20. > :05:28.spoiled by industrial pollution and wild fires. So we sent Leah to

:05:28. > :05:31.investigate in a helicopter! When you think of the Peak District,

:05:31. > :05:38.you'd expect something like this - lush wild grass, tranquil lakes and

:05:38. > :05:43.breath-taking views. But not this. Black land with hardly anything

:05:43. > :05:45.growing. After more than a hundred years of industrial pollution from

:05:45. > :05:53.surrounding cities and wildfires, parts of the Peak District have

:05:53. > :05:59.been ruined. I'm taking to the skies. Today, I'm joining a team

:05:59. > :06:03.who are bring life back to this area. Our target, Black Hill, would

:06:03. > :06:06.have taken about 45 minutes to get to by car I guess, so it's much

:06:06. > :06:12.faster to take helicopter and the views are quite stunning So this is

:06:12. > :06:18.the answer. Moss balls. Each tiny bead is bursting with strains of

:06:18. > :06:22.green moss which eventually grow into healthy fresh moorland plants.

:06:22. > :06:27.Good for the thousands of sheep and good for us. And here's the proof -

:06:27. > :06:31.land goes from this to this. Sphagnum moss is an unusual plant.

:06:31. > :06:34.It holds about 20 times its own weight in water. It keeps the

:06:34. > :06:39.bogland up here healthy and that's good for species of wading birds

:06:39. > :06:43.that rely on this as a feeding ground. And the whole food chain of

:06:43. > :06:46.other species aswell. So today, for the first time, we'll be sprinkling

:06:46. > :06:49.six million of these tiny little beads all across this landscape to

:06:49. > :06:52.try and turn this dull, lifeless grass into something a little bit

:06:52. > :06:56.like this This is a massive operation but it's hoped over the

:06:56. > :07:06.next few months a 150 million of these tiny moss balls will help to

:07:06. > :07:14.

:07:14. > :07:20.transform this huge landscape back to its former glory. You know, a

:07:21. > :07:24.helicopter is how she usually travels to work? I would believe it.

:07:24. > :07:28.Next, to a story that's really got you going over on the website - all

:07:28. > :07:31.about how much TV you watch. A new study says that 7 to 12-year-olds

:07:31. > :07:34.are spending too much time looking at their TV, computers and phone

:07:34. > :07:37.screens. Experts say you should be limited to watching an hour of

:07:37. > :07:47.telly a day, to help your brain develop better. We have had loads

:07:47. > :08:02.

:08:02. > :08:05.If you looked up at the sky before you went to bed last night you may

:08:05. > :08:08.have seen the Northern Lights. They were seen over parts of Scotland,

:08:08. > :08:16.Northern England and Northern Ireland. Some people were even

:08:16. > :08:20.lucky enough to capture the sight on camera. Impressive photos! Well,

:08:20. > :08:23.if you head over to the Newsround website right now you can see even

:08:23. > :08:26.more. Before we go, lets find out how many backflips 16-year-old

:08:26. > :08:29.cheerleader, Miranda Ferguson managed in a row to break the world

:08:29. > :08:32.record. Her target was 32, but she managed 35. Two officials were

:08:32. > :08:35.there to witness the record and her team-mates were well chuffed. She
