:00:10. > :00:20.Hi everyone, I'm Joe your with Newsround. Coming up in the next

:00:20. > :00:21.

:00:21. > :00:23.five minutes. First, to Syria where charities say hundreds of thousands

:00:23. > :00:26.of children are going hungry, and without proper shelter in freezing

:00:26. > :00:29.conditions. Since war broke out nearly two years ago, many have

:00:29. > :00:32.been forced to live in refugee camps in the middle eastern country

:00:32. > :00:35.and nearby regions. But fighting and fuel shortages are stopping aid

:00:35. > :00:38.from getting in. Here's Ricky. Ines and her family were forced to

:00:38. > :00:48.leave Syria 6 months ago and this tent in the neighbouring country of

:00:48. > :00:50.

:00:50. > :00:54.Lebanon is now home. Her story is a familiar one. Now we are feeling

:00:54. > :00:58.cold, we sit next to the stove and my brothers and sisters are feeling

:00:58. > :01:01.cold. There is flooding so we can't go out any more.

:01:01. > :01:04.The Since the war began in Syria in March 2011, hundreds of thousands

:01:04. > :01:07.of children like Ines have been forced to leave their homes and

:01:07. > :01:10.seek shelter in refugee camps. They rely on aid from organisations to

:01:10. > :01:17.survive. One of those is the United Nations world food programme -

:01:17. > :01:23.they've warned that one million people are still being left hungry.

:01:23. > :01:27.Bakeries that produce the bread have been damaged in the fighting,

:01:27. > :01:31.the bakers don't have the fuel to power the machinery they need to

:01:31. > :01:34.produce the bread. Lack of food isn't the only worry.

:01:34. > :01:37.Temperatures are freezing and it's snowing in many places. Mohamed

:01:37. > :01:45.works for the charity, Save the Children in the Zaatari refugee

:01:45. > :01:49.camp in Jordan, where lots of Syrians have fled. Less and less

:01:49. > :01:53.children are going to school because it is tough for them to

:01:53. > :01:59.face the severe weather conditions. Some of the refugees came into

:01:59. > :02:02.Jordan in the summer with a few items. These items are not suitable

:02:02. > :02:05.for the winter. A million people without food and

:02:05. > :02:08.proper shelter, in freezing weather - the situation is desperate. But

:02:08. > :02:12.aid agencies say that money alone won't solve the problem - only an

:02:12. > :02:15.end to the fighting in Syria will help these people.

:02:15. > :02:19.So with a million people going hungry in those refugee camps, it's

:02:19. > :02:22.all the more shocking that a report out today says we may be wasting

:02:22. > :02:25.half of all the food that we grow or make. The Institute for

:02:25. > :02:32.Mechanical Engineers says between 30 and 50% of all food produced in

:02:32. > :02:35.the world never reaches a human stomach. Some food experts say is

:02:35. > :02:37.impossible to be sure how much is lost, but the report blames poor

:02:37. > :02:44.storage, and shops rejecting imperfect fruit and veg as two

:02:44. > :02:48.major causes. You've been telling us what you

:02:48. > :02:52.think about this on the website. Richard in Hitchin says: "At school

:02:52. > :02:55.we have two big bins and by the end of lunch there is so much waste in

:02:55. > :02:59.them. I hate looking in them." Kelly in London told us: "In our

:02:59. > :03:02.house we don't waste a lot of food but the food we do throw out is

:03:02. > :03:08.often vegetables, fruits and foods that generally run out of date

:03:08. > :03:11.quickly." Thanks for those, guys. Join me later on today at our new

:03:11. > :03:16.time of 6.50 for a full report into the problem, including what's being

:03:16. > :03:18.done to try and stop the waste. OK - it's another big day in the

:03:18. > :03:21.showbiz calendar. The nominations for the Brit Awards will be

:03:21. > :03:31.announced later this evening, and Leah is down in London at the event

:03:31. > :03:37.right now. Are you excited? I am very excited. It is absolutely

:03:37. > :03:43.chaotic down here. The world's media are here and I am joined by

:03:43. > :03:48.Paloma faith. Are you excited about the Brits? Really excited. It is a

:03:48. > :03:55.wonderful atmosphere. It is scary and daunting to know he will be

:03:55. > :04:01.here and who is nominated. Emily is tipped to do very well. What are

:04:01. > :04:07.your thoughts? I think she is wonderful. When I heard her first

:04:07. > :04:12.single I was like, she is amazing. She has done so well and has had a

:04:12. > :04:18.brilliant year. She is a lovely girl. This time last year, Emily

:04:18. > :04:25.was the Critics' Choice award, this year we have Tom. Do you know much

:04:25. > :04:31.about him? He is a lovely boy. He is lovely. I am impressed with his

:04:31. > :04:37.sound? People say he sounds like Chris Martin. I don't know. I don't

:04:37. > :04:41.like to make comparisons. People are who they are themselves but I

:04:41. > :04:46.watched him on YouTube and I thought he was brilliant. Fantastic.

:04:46. > :04:49.Thank you for joining us on the red carpet. Back to the studio.

:04:49. > :04:52.Just enough time to tell you about the Oscar nominations this
