0:00:13 > 0:00:15Morning - I'm Ricky, and this is Newsround.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18First to the US, where flash floods and mudslides have caused loads

0:00:18 > 0:00:22of damage in southern California.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26Rescue teams are trying to help people after heavy rains

0:00:26 > 0:00:27turned roads into rivers.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Witnesses have described large rocks, the size of small cars,

0:00:30 > 0:00:34rolling down hills, blocking roads and destroying houses.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Police say more than 100 people have been taken to hospital.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41At least 13 people have died.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45Gay people can get married everywhere in the UK apart

0:00:45 > 0:00:47from in Northern Ireland.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50Two women or two men have been able to marry in England,

0:00:50 > 0:00:51Scotland and Wales since 2014.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Martin's been speaking to Northern Ireland, to find out

0:00:53 > 0:00:57what people there think.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59We're all just people and we should have equal rights,

0:00:59 > 0:01:00no matter who we are.

0:01:00 > 0:01:04These kids set up this group so there would be somewhere

0:01:04 > 0:01:07for people who are gay and straight to chat about things

0:01:07 > 0:01:08that affect them.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12And one big issue that comes up again and again is gay marriage,

0:01:12 > 0:01:16which isn't allowed in Northern Ireland.

0:01:16 > 0:01:23I think it's old-fashioned and a bit slow of the people making the laws.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26It's unfair, because if say when I'm older and I did truly love someone

0:01:26 > 0:01:29and wanted to get married, it just means that I

0:01:29 > 0:01:30can't really do that.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33If I could sit in front of people that have the decision to change

0:01:33 > 0:01:35this, I would tell them, "What are you doing?"

0:01:35 > 0:01:37Right now I shouldn't even be here discussing why gay

0:01:37 > 0:01:39marriage isn't a thing, because it should

0:01:39 > 0:01:41already be a thing here.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44There's like a lot of people in our area who don't actually know

0:01:44 > 0:01:48that gay marriage still isn't legal in Northern Ireland.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Eventually it will change.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53I think we're just putting it off.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56But obviously it's going to happen.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59For Alice, there is another reason why it's important to her that gay

0:01:59 > 0:02:03people should be able to marry.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Her uncle is gay and lives in the Republic of Ireland,

0:02:05 > 0:02:10where gay marriage is allowed, after moving from Northern Ireland.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13How was it knowing that you couldn't get married even if you wanted

0:02:13 > 0:02:15to in Northern Ireland?

0:02:15 > 0:02:17What it does do is it tells you that you're not

0:02:17 > 0:02:20the same as everybody else - you're not allowed the same

0:02:20 > 0:02:22freedoms as everybody else.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24And a lot of other people in Northern Ireland want

0:02:24 > 0:02:25the laws to change.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29In a recent poll, over two thirds of people here said they think gay

0:02:29 > 0:02:32marriage should be allowed.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36The biggest political party here is called the DUP.

0:02:36 > 0:02:41And I'm just outside their headquarters in Belfast.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44The DUP don't believe in gay marriage, and that's a big reason

0:02:44 > 0:02:46why it hasn't happened in Northern Ireland -

0:02:46 > 0:02:51unlike England, Wales and Scotland.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Now we wanted to speak to someone from the DUP,

0:02:54 > 0:02:57but no one wanted to be interviewed.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59But someone who would speak to us was John.

0:02:59 > 0:03:00He is a Christian.

0:03:00 > 0:03:06He thinks that gay marriage is against what is religion teaches.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09In the Bible I believe that marriage is something that we didn't create -

0:03:09 > 0:03:12it's something that was given to us as a gift by God.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14I think God suggests that marriage is something

0:03:14 > 0:03:15between a man and a woman.

0:03:15 > 0:03:20I think it's important that all people are treated well,

0:03:20 > 0:03:22all people are treated with dignity, all people are respected,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26no matter their creed, colour or sexual orientation.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29And I think that is fair.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35They're hard to see, but you can probably find them in your

0:03:35 > 0:03:38bathroom at home - I'm talking about microbeads.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41The UK has just banned them - but what exactly are they?

0:03:41 > 0:03:43Here's Ayshah.

0:03:43 > 0:03:45Microbeads are a tiny balls of plastic smaller

0:03:45 > 0:03:49than five millimetres - roughly the size of a grain of sand.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53They're used in some shower gels, face washes and toothpaste to help

0:03:53 > 0:03:55add that extra scrub.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57But now the UK has banned making products containing them.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00Why?

0:04:00 > 0:04:05They say trillions of microbeads end up in the world's oceans,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08lakes and rivers, and that harms the sea life who eat them

0:04:08 > 0:04:09or breathe them in by mistake.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Just one shower can lead to 100,000 plastic particles

0:04:13 > 0:04:14going into the ocean.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18Many companies have already taken steps to remove

0:04:18 > 0:04:20microbeads from their stuff.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22And although making things with them has now been banned,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24microbeads won't be removed from shops completely

0:04:24 > 0:04:28until later this year.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32Environmental campaigners hope a worldwide ban will soon follow.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39Manchester City came from behind to beat Bristol City

0:04:39 > 0:04:41in their League Cup semi-final first leg match.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Bristol City took the lead from the penalty spot

0:04:43 > 0:04:46through Bobby Reid at the Etihad Stadium.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Kevin de Bruyne then equalised for Man City,

0:04:48 > 0:04:54before substitute Sergio Aguero scored this late injury-time winner.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57It means Manchester City take a 2-1 lead into their second match

0:04:57 > 0:04:58in a couple of weeks.

0:04:58 > 0:04:59That's it from us.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02We'll see you in just over half an hour.
