0:00:11 > 0:00:13Hi, I'm Whitney.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15And this is Newsround.
0:00:15 > 0:00:17This time last year Billy Monger was being tipped
0:00:17 > 0:00:19as the next Lewis Hamilton.
0:00:19 > 0:00:21He was 17 and a star of Formula four racing -
0:00:21 > 0:00:24but he had an accident in his car last April and lost
0:00:24 > 0:00:26both his lower legs.
0:00:26 > 0:00:34But Billy is making a comeback.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41There was a slight moment when I thought I would not drive again.
0:00:41 > 0:00:43It doesn't change the dream.
0:00:43 > 0:00:44The dream stays the same.
0:00:44 > 0:00:49I want to be an F1 driver.
0:00:49 > 0:00:50My mum is very nervous.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53If I don't do it, what else am I going to
0:00:53 > 0:00:54do with my life?
0:00:54 > 0:01:02I need to make my life into something positive.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04Billy is a very special lad, for sure.
0:01:04 > 0:01:06Regardless of his injuries, the level of control
0:01:06 > 0:01:10he's got now, for prosthetic legs, is phenomenal.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12When you control the pedal normally you do it all through
0:01:12 > 0:01:18the ankle, but with me, because I haven't got ankles,
0:01:18 > 0:01:21the way I simply control it is through my leg like this.
0:01:21 > 0:01:27I do a push motion instead to control the car.
0:01:27 > 0:01:29Now, gay people can get married everywhere in the UK apart
0:01:29 > 0:01:30from in Northern Ireland.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Two women or two men have been able to marry in England,
0:01:33 > 0:01:36Scotland and Wales since 2014 - Martin's been speaking to people
0:01:36 > 0:01:41in Northern Ireland to find out what they think.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43We're all just people and we should have equal rights,
0:01:43 > 0:01:45no matter who we are.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47These kids set up this group so there would be somewhere
0:01:47 > 0:01:50for people who are gay and straight to chat about things
0:01:50 > 0:01:51that affect them.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54And one big issue that comes up again and again is gay marriage,
0:01:54 > 0:01:57which isn't allowed in Northern Ireland.
0:01:57 > 0:02:05I think it's old-fashioned and a bit slow of the people making the laws.
0:02:05 > 0:02:08It's unfair, because when I'm older and I do truly love someone
0:02:08 > 0:02:14and want to get married, it just means that I can't really do that.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17If I could sit in front of people that have the decision to change
0:02:17 > 0:02:19this, I would tell them, "What are you doing?"
0:02:19 > 0:02:21Right now I shouldn't even be here discussing why gay
0:02:21 > 0:02:23marriage isn't a thing, because it should
0:02:23 > 0:02:24already be a thing here.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27There's like a lot of people in our area who don't actually know
0:02:27 > 0:02:32that gay marriage still isn't legal in Northern Ireland.
0:02:32 > 0:02:33Eventually it will change.
0:02:33 > 0:02:37I think we're just putting it off.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40But obviously it's going to happen.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43For Alice, there is another reason why it's important to her that gay
0:02:43 > 0:02:46people should be able to marry.
0:02:46 > 0:02:49Her uncle is gay and lives in the Republic of Ireland,
0:02:49 > 0:02:53where gay marriage is allowed, after moving from Northern Ireland.
0:02:53 > 0:02:56How was it knowing that you couldn't get married even if you wanted
0:02:56 > 0:02:58to in Northern Ireland?
0:02:58 > 0:03:01What it does do is it tells you that you're not
0:03:01 > 0:03:04the same as everybody else - you're not allowed the same
0:03:04 > 0:03:05freedoms as everybody else.
0:03:05 > 0:03:07And a lot of other people in Northern Ireland want
0:03:07 > 0:03:09the laws to change.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12In a recent poll, over two thirds of people here said they think gay
0:03:12 > 0:03:15marriage should be allowed.
0:03:15 > 0:03:19The biggest political party here is called the DUP.
0:03:19 > 0:03:23And I'm just outside their headquarters in Belfast.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26The DUP don't believe in gay marriage, and that's a big reason
0:03:26 > 0:03:29why it hasn't happened in Northern Ireland -
0:03:29 > 0:03:34unlike England, Wales and Scotland.
0:03:34 > 0:03:36Now we wanted to speak to someone from the DUP,
0:03:36 > 0:03:40but no one wanted to be interviewed.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42But someone who would speak to us was John.
0:03:42 > 0:03:43He is a Christian.
0:03:43 > 0:03:51He thinks that gay marriage is against what his religion teaches.
0:03:51 > 0:03:54In the Bible I believe that marriage is something that we didn't create -
0:03:54 > 0:03:57it's something that was given to us as a gift by God.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59I think God suggests that marriage is something
0:03:59 > 0:04:00between a man and a woman.
0:04:00 > 0:04:03I think it's important that all people are treated well,
0:04:03 > 0:04:05all people are treated with dignity, all people are respected,
0:04:05 > 0:04:09no matter their creed, colour or sexual orientation.
0:04:09 > 0:04:16And I think that is fair.
0:04:16 > 0:04:19And finally, check out these frozen cars.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21They're covered in ice because of ridiculously low
0:04:21 > 0:04:25temperatures in Eastern Germany.
0:04:25 > 0:04:27Drivers spent hours trying to defrost them.
0:04:27 > 0:04:28Icy winds are battering the mountainous area
0:04:28 > 0:04:32of Saxony with everything there covered in snow.
0:04:32 > 0:04:34And if you're a bit bored tonight and fancy heading
0:04:34 > 0:04:38to Newsround online - we have just the thing to make
0:04:38 > 0:04:39you laugh...
0:04:39 > 0:04:40A skateboarding dog!!!
0:04:40 > 0:04:41I'm not even joking!
0:04:41 > 0:04:44Plus take a look at the amazing animal photos which are part
0:04:44 > 0:04:45of a national competition.
0:04:45 > 0:04:46That's it from me.
0:04:46 > 0:04:48Enjoy the rest of your day.
0:04:48 > 0:04:50Ricky's back with loads more great stories in the morning.
