0:00:14 > 0:00:16Hi, I'm Ricky, with your final Newsround update for today.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19And first up, news from Pyeongchang, where

0:00:19 > 0:00:21the Winter Olympics are under way.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Team GB medal hopeful Elise Christie took to the ice this morning

0:00:23 > 0:00:28in the 500m short-track speed skating heats.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32And it was a great start for her first race of the Games so far.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35She beat her opponents to win the heat and she set a brand-new

0:00:35 > 0:00:39Olympic record while doing it.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41Elise is now through to the quarterfinals.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45Here's what she had to say after the race...

0:00:45 > 0:00:48I went hard for the first lap and a half because I am

0:00:48 > 0:00:50practising my start a lot, as I said before.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53And it went very well and I was just trying to maintain

0:00:53 > 0:00:54a good speed after that.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58So I cannot complain really, if I've got more in the bag than that,

0:00:58 > 0:00:59then that is a good thing.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02I do not think I have been nervous like that for about six years.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05It was not even being scared of my skating, I was just...

0:01:05 > 0:01:07I cannot explain it.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10I think because everyone back home has waited so long

0:01:10 > 0:01:13for me to skate again, I was so nervous, and I was like,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16maybe I'm not going to do this because I was so nervous.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20But actually it was fine and I got up to the line and I was excited.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24I'm just glad I've got to race in front of everyone again.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26Well, Elise was feeling the pressure, and she's

0:01:26 > 0:01:27not the only one.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Earlier this morning I caught up with Amy Williams,

0:01:29 > 0:01:32who won gold at the Winter Games in Vancouver, eight years ago.

0:01:32 > 0:01:39She knows exactly what this year's athletes are going through.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43Every athlete knows that they want to win a medal,

0:01:43 > 0:01:45because they want to stand on the podium.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47They've done all the years of hard work.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50And then each sport has to say which medals,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52and how many they will target for.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54And then there's that pressure on the whole team.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56But there's still no greater pressure than the pressure that

0:01:56 > 0:02:00an athlete puts on themselves.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02But when you know that lots of funding has gone

0:02:02 > 0:02:05into your sport and you have to bring home a medal,

0:02:05 > 0:02:06it's really hard.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09So, psychologically in your head, you have to kind of think

0:02:09 > 0:02:12on that and then park it, stand on the start line, perform

0:02:12 > 0:02:18and hope that your result happens.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Now, in 2010, you got gold in the women's skeleton,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23and you kind of became this star overnight - all this

0:02:23 > 0:02:25attention on you.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28What's it like when you win a medal at an Olympics?

0:02:28 > 0:02:30What is that feeling like?

0:02:30 > 0:02:33It's funny, because I knew my training times were really good,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36I knew I could win a medal, but I never allowed

0:02:36 > 0:02:37myself to think about it.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39And then it happens, and all of a sudden you're

0:02:39 > 0:02:42going through the media zone which is the area that you have to

0:02:42 > 0:02:48walk through with the world's press.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49You've got Clare Balding interviewing you,

0:02:49 > 0:02:50you've got, you know,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52German TV all excited, whoever it might be.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56And then your land home and you don't realise what's been

0:02:56 > 0:02:58going on back home when you're in a foreign country.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00You get on that flight, and I specifically still remember,

0:03:00 > 0:03:02the first time I'd been in first-class, seat

0:03:02 > 0:03:05number 1A - amazing!

0:03:05 > 0:03:09But I look back now and it was eight years ago, and it's like this blur,

0:03:09 > 0:03:10as if it never happened.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13When I watch that girl in all the replays and clips,

0:03:13 > 0:03:14was that girl me?

0:03:14 > 0:03:15Wow.

0:03:15 > 0:03:16It's a really strange...

0:03:16 > 0:03:18Like an out of body experience?

0:03:18 > 0:03:19An out of body experience.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21But I wish I could find a genie in a lamp.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25I wish I could go back and relive it all again, and write a diary,

0:03:25 > 0:03:27because you think you're going to remember all

0:03:27 > 0:03:28of it and you don't.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30You remember little snippets.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Well, listen, thank you so much for coming in to chat to Newsround,

0:03:33 > 0:03:36and hopefully over the next few weeks we'll see those medals

0:03:36 > 0:03:37kind of go up and up.

0:03:37 > 0:03:38Fingers crossed.

0:03:38 > 0:03:39I hope so.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43Fingers crossed.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46In case you missed it, you can take a look at some

0:03:46 > 0:03:48of the best bits from yesterday's fantastic Olympics opening ceremony

0:03:48 > 0:03:49over at Newsround online.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51While you're there, check out this week's Big Question,

0:03:51 > 0:03:59which is all about Valentine's Day.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02Now to a bit of sport slightly closer to home.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04The women's Six Nations game between England and Wales kicked

0:04:04 > 0:04:07off around an hour ago.

0:04:07 > 0:04:11England currently lead 26-0 at half-time.

0:04:11 > 0:04:17We'll update you with the final score tomorrow morning.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Now what do you get if you have a sleepy kangaroo,

0:04:19 > 0:04:21some partying "astronauts" and a really long zip wire?

0:04:21 > 0:04:29Strange, stranger, strangest, of course!

0:04:29 > 0:04:31This has to be one of the cutest kangaroos ever!

0:04:31 > 0:04:35When he gets tired, instead of hopping into his mum's pouch,

0:04:35 > 0:04:39he lands in a pillowcase!

0:04:39 > 0:04:41He's being looked after at the Kangaroo Sanctuary

0:04:41 > 0:04:44in Alice Springs, in Australia, and what is even stranger,

0:04:44 > 0:04:47he's called Bradley.

0:04:47 > 0:04:52Oh, doesn't he look comfy?

0:04:52 > 0:04:53Now, we are raving about this party.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56They are on a special plane that is normally used

0:04:56 > 0:05:01by astronauts to see how it feels being weightless in space.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04But instead, these guys had a 90-minute party,

0:05:04 > 0:05:07complete with flashing lights and DJs.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12Who needs dancing when you can float?

0:05:12 > 0:05:14And if you are afraid of heights, look away now.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18This is the longest zip wire in the world at a record-breaking

0:05:18 > 0:05:212.8 kilometres, that is longer than 28 football pitches!

0:05:21 > 0:05:26It's in the United Arab Emirates, in the Middle East, and starts

0:05:26 > 0:05:30in the mountains before plunging down through the hills.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34You go at over 90 mph.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37That's even faster than you are allowed to go on the motorway!

0:05:37 > 0:05:40I think you'd have to be pretty strange to want to go on it.

0:05:40 > 0:05:44I'd be way too scared!

0:05:44 > 0:05:48That's it from us for today.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50We'll be back tomorrow morning.

0:05:50 > 0:05:51Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

0:05:51 > 0:05:59See ya!
