0:01:21 > 0:01:24In February his mum was killed by poachers for her horn and then

0:01:24 > 0:01:26they tried to take his too, but he survived.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30At least one rhino a day is killed by poachers in Africa by criminals

0:01:30 > 0:01:32who sell their horns for a lot of money.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34This is Lofo's story.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47It's February 2016, and a wounded rhino is being rushed into this

0:01:47 > 0:01:50animal orphanage in South Africa.

0:01:50 > 0:01:56I wish more people would explain how horrible it is to find these babies.

0:01:58 > 0:02:04He's just a baby, and his mum has been killed by poachers.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10It's traumatic, they're stressed, they call for their mums.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Their herd is gone, their mum is gone.

0:02:13 > 0:02:18His name is Lofo and vets are giving him life-saving treatment.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33This orphanage is the biggest in the world and looks

0:02:33 > 0:02:36after over 50 rhino.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39They are in a terrible state, they are very scared.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40They fear everything.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44What you immediately pick up in your heart is devastating.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48Like Lofo, they have all lost their mums because of poaching.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56After Lofo's mum was killed, he was attacked by the poachers

0:02:56 > 0:03:02who tried to take his horn as well, but he managed to escape.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06The wounds on his back was severe, very, very deep.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Lofo was alone for five days in the national park,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15with no milk, food or water.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Despite his injuries he survived, and was luckily found by the team.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34Petronel and a group of experts have operated on Lofo's wounds.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36They have fed him by hand everyday and they are now

0:03:36 > 0:03:39helping him to get well again.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41He just grabbed onto life.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Now, you know, you can stand with him and he will kiss you,

0:03:44 > 0:03:50and he enjoys being with others.

0:03:50 > 0:03:55He's getting stronger and he's got a new family.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01I can't wait to release him to breed with females and see all those

0:04:01 > 0:04:04babies running around.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08I can't wait, he's a brilliant animal.
