0:00:02 > 0:00:05This is Newsround, we're live on CBBC with all the latest

0:00:05 > 0:00:07for you this Thursday morning.

0:00:07 > 0:00:08I'm Ricky.

0:00:08 > 0:00:13Get ready as we launch our Tim Peake countdown into space.

0:00:13 > 0:00:17And the grumpiest cat in the world gets a double!

0:00:17 > 0:00:20This is Newsround,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31First this morning, heavy rain has caused more flooding in parts

0:00:31 > 0:00:33of Cumbria in the North West of England.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36A river in the village of Glenrriding has burst its banks

0:00:36 > 0:00:38for the second time this week.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41The army as well as police and fire fighters helped to move

0:00:41 > 0:00:43people to safety.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46BBC's Fiona Trott has sent us this report from Appleby where they're

0:00:46 > 0:00:49keeping a close watch on the river.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52There was 40 millimetres of rain overnight, that's about an inch

0:00:52 > 0:00:55and a half and you can see what that's done to the river level

0:00:55 > 0:00:56here in Appleby.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58It's almost reaching the pavement.

0:00:58 > 0:01:02And all these floods here in Cumbria are having a devastating effect

0:01:02 > 0:01:04on local businesses.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Let me show you this shop here.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09They've had to throw everything out, look at those cupboards,

0:01:09 > 0:01:12shelves, fridge freezers, everything taken out and left

0:01:12 > 0:01:15here on the streets.

0:01:15 > 0:01:20Let me show you this too, a huge mountain of fizzy drinks,

0:01:20 > 0:01:24crisps, chewing gum, milk, all gone to waste.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27All of the things that were inside the shop probably cost

0:01:27 > 0:01:28thousands of pounds.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31But there's nothing that they can do because all of this now

0:01:31 > 0:01:34is contaminated by the flood water.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38So, the clean-up operation continues here in Appleby this morning

0:01:38 > 0:01:44but everybody is keeping a very close eye on that river level.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47Now, you might not expect to see penguins on the beach,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49but in South Africa that is exactly where they live.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51But their numbers have been falling.

0:01:51 > 0:01:57Here's Jenny to explain why.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59African penguins only live on the West Coast

0:01:59 > 0:02:00of South Africa and Namibia.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05They are pretty cool characters who happily swim amongst humans

0:02:05 > 0:02:07and share the beach with sunbathers.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10They are very sociable animals too.

0:02:10 > 0:02:14A pair of penguins bond for life and go on to have chicks.

0:02:14 > 0:02:17However, the number of African penguin pairs has dropped

0:02:17 > 0:02:24from about 32,000 in 2004 to just over 3,000 in 2014.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26The decline is fairly rapid.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31If you think back to 1930, there were 1 million breeding pairs.

0:02:31 > 0:02:36So we have lost 98% of the original population.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Experts think this is because the sardines and anchovies

0:02:38 > 0:02:43they feed on are disappearing, leaving the penguins starving.

0:02:43 > 0:02:49A combination of overfishing and climate change is thought to be

0:02:49 > 0:02:52at fault, as the sea becomes too warm for the fish the penguins eat

0:02:52 > 0:02:53to survive in.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Conservation experts are trying to develop colonies closer

0:02:56 > 0:02:59to the Southern waters the fish have moved to so the penguins

0:02:59 > 0:03:01are able to breed.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04We're obviously doing everything we can to release as many pairs back

0:03:04 > 0:03:07into the wild but the concern is it's not slowing down.

0:03:07 > 0:03:12Something needs to be done fast if we want to try and save these

0:03:12 > 0:03:15plucky penguins and other animals at risk of extinction

0:03:15 > 0:03:19as the planet warms up.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22We've been asking what you guys thought about a ban by the Football

0:03:22 > 0:03:23Association.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26They're stopping newspapers and websites from reporting scores

0:03:26 > 0:03:28from under 11s matches.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32They said it was in case it caused upset to the losing teams.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34Here's what some of you had to say.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Ten-year-old Lara said, I think that football should be

0:03:37 > 0:03:39competitive because that's what football is all about!

0:03:39 > 0:03:43Stanley from Glasgow says, I don't like losing but I don't feel

0:03:43 > 0:03:44bad about it.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46It's all part of the game of football.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Koda who's 12 said, my little brother can get upset if his team

0:03:49 > 0:03:52loses and it's published in the school newsletter.

0:03:52 > 0:03:57Thanks very much for all of your comments.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01To football now and it was a pretty good night for English clubs

0:04:01 > 0:04:02in the Champions league last night.

0:04:02 > 0:04:03Chelsea won 2-0 against Portugese side Porto.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06And Arsenal will also be heading through to the next stage

0:04:06 > 0:04:11of the competition after beating Greek side Olympiakos 3-0.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13That's the 16th season in a row that the Gunners have

0:04:13 > 0:04:17made it to the last 16.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20It is a special night for us, because as we said before the game,

0:04:20 > 0:04:27we are in escape mode, before the game.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30And we needed something special, and when you can deliver something

0:04:30 > 0:04:36special, you can create a positive memory for the rest of the team.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Swansea are looking for a new manager this morning

0:04:38 > 0:04:40after Garry Monk was sacked yesterday.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42He'd been in charge for just 22 months.

0:04:42 > 0:04:48The club are currently just one point above the relegation zone.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51British astronaut Tim Peake blasts off for outer space in just five

0:04:51 > 0:04:55days, so here at Newsround we're counting down the days with our list

0:04:55 > 0:05:00of top five facts about the UK's number one space-man.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10Tim Peake had to do a special five-week course learning how

0:05:10 > 0:05:16to spacewalk in a space suit.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19And to another story of a cat but a very grumpy one.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23The famous grumpy cat kitty has been to Madame Tussauds in San Francisco

0:05:23 > 0:05:28for the uneveiling of her very own lookalike.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31But instead of being made out of wax, she's been made

0:05:31 > 0:05:34as a mechanical figure that can lift her head and even purr.

0:05:34 > 0:05:41Of course, the real grumpy cat didn't look too impressed by it all.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43That's all from me, Newsround's back right here on CBBC this afternoon

0:05:43 > 0:05:45at 4.20pm with Jenny.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Head over to the Newsround web site to see sneak peek of what's to watch

0:05:48 > 0:05:53on TV this Christmas.
