0:00:10 > 0:00:13Hello, I'm Ricky and this is Newsround on Thursday morning.
0:00:13 > 0:00:14Coming up in the next few minutes...
0:00:14 > 0:00:16The astronaut who got taller in space.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18How dog poo could be the future for energy.
0:00:18 > 0:00:26And find out which TV show topped the most-watched list.
0:00:33 > 0:00:37A Japanese astronaut has said sorry after wrongly claiming he'd grown
0:00:37 > 0:00:41an extra 9 centimetres in space!
0:00:41 > 0:00:42But his body has been changing.
0:00:42 > 0:00:46Here's Ayshah.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49Astronaut Norishige Kanai hit the headlines this week after saying
0:00:49 > 0:00:52he'd stretched a staggering nine centimetres in space -
0:00:52 > 0:00:56that's the size of an average chocolate bar!
0:00:56 > 0:01:04But he's now admitted to making a measurement mistake.
0:01:06 > 0:01:07Whoops!
0:01:07 > 0:01:08Norishige has grown during his first month
0:01:08 > 0:01:11on the International Space Station, but only by two centimetres.
0:01:11 > 0:01:14It's quite normal for astronauts because there is zero gravity,
0:01:14 > 0:01:17which is the force here on earth that pulls us downwards.
0:01:17 > 0:01:23Without gravity, the bones in someone's spine can
0:01:23 > 0:01:26expand and move apart slightly, leading to a small change in height.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28It doesn't hurt, though.
0:01:28 > 0:01:31But don't start thinking you can all go up in space
0:01:31 > 0:01:33if you want to get taller, because it doesn't last forever.
0:01:33 > 0:01:36Eventually your spine goes back to normal when you come
0:01:36 > 0:01:41back down to earth.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44Now, we're not afraid of talking about poo here at Newsround -
0:01:44 > 0:01:51but this is a stinky story, even for us...
0:01:51 > 0:01:54Ah, a beautiful evening in a quaint English village.
0:01:54 > 0:01:56Well, things aren't quite as lovely as they seem,
0:01:56 > 0:02:02because this lamp could soon be powered by poo.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Brian is an inventor, and he's made a special machine
0:02:05 > 0:02:10to turn dog poo into energy to power street lamps.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12This is deadly serious, so we've spent 2.5 years working
0:02:12 > 0:02:15on this in secret to get the engineering and the
0:02:15 > 0:02:18science correct with it, which is what we've done.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20So how does it work?
0:02:20 > 0:02:25Lift up this dispenser and grab a free bag,
0:02:25 > 0:02:29however many you want.
0:02:29 > 0:02:35We then scoop that into the bag and all you do is lift up that top
0:02:35 > 0:02:40cover, the whole bag, nothing is emptied, goes in there.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43Turning the handle pushes the bag into the machine,
0:02:43 > 0:02:47where the poo is broken down by microbes, and this produces
0:02:47 > 0:02:52methane and carbon dioxide, which fuels the light.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56The lamp is a big hit in Brian's village, and he's hoping that this
0:02:56 > 0:03:00machine can bring poo power to other parts of the country.
0:03:00 > 0:03:06Looks like it wasn't such a pants idea after all!
0:03:06 > 0:03:11Next, 2017 saw so many brilliant TV shows hit our screens,
0:03:11 > 0:03:18but which ones did British viewers love the most?
0:03:18 > 0:03:21Well, the results are in.
0:03:21 > 0:03:23And the winner is...
0:03:23 > 0:03:27Hidden beneath the waves, right beneath my feet,
0:03:27 > 0:03:32there are creatures beyond our imagination.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34Yes, Blue Planet 2 was the most-watched
0:03:34 > 0:03:37TV show of the year.
0:03:37 > 0:03:42A chart-topping 14 million people saw episode one
0:03:42 > 0:03:44of the wildlife series, which included dramatic footage
0:03:44 > 0:03:46of walruses fighting to find a home, and dazzling scenes
0:03:46 > 0:03:51of surfing dolphins.
0:03:51 > 0:03:55Second place went to Strictly Come Dancing.
0:03:55 > 0:03:5813 million people watched the final, which was won by actor Joe McFadden
0:03:58 > 0:03:59and his dance partner Katya.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02Close behind in third place was ITV's I'm a Celebrity,
0:04:02 > 0:04:07Get Me Out of Here!, which attracted an audience of 12.7
0:04:07 > 0:04:12million for its launch episode.
0:04:12 > 0:04:14Britain's Got Talent and the New Year's fireworks made
0:04:14 > 0:04:17it into the top ten, but 2016's top TV show
0:04:17 > 0:04:19The Great British Bake Off missed out completely.
0:04:19 > 0:04:22The delicious baking contest did still bring in millions of viewers
0:04:22 > 0:04:25after moving to Channel 4 and changing its judges
0:04:25 > 0:04:31and presenters.
0:04:31 > 0:04:39Let's hope 2018 is packed full of even more incredible TV moments!
0:04:42 > 0:04:48Newsround missed out on the top ten once again! Maybe this year...
0:04:48 > 0:04:51Sticking with TV now and meet one of the stars of a brand
0:04:51 > 0:04:53new BBC nature documentary which starts tonight.
0:04:53 > 0:04:54I've been taking a look.
0:04:54 > 0:05:02Meet the world's smallest cat.
0:05:05 > 0:05:09No, this isn't a kitten - it's a rusty spotted cat
0:05:09 > 0:05:12and lives in Sri Lanka.
0:05:12 > 0:05:14They weigh little more than a bag of sugar,
0:05:14 > 0:05:19around 200 times lighter than a lion.
0:05:19 > 0:05:24Almost fully grown, this cat can sit in the palm of your hand.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26And while he might look cute, this furry fella
0:05:26 > 0:05:31is a pretty fierce hunter.
0:05:31 > 0:05:35They look similar to their furry cousins, the domestic house cat,
0:05:35 > 0:05:38but the rusty spotted cousin has hardly ever been filmed
0:05:38 > 0:05:43like this before.
0:05:43 > 0:05:46It's one of the stars in the BBC's new wildlife documentary Big Cats.
0:05:46 > 0:05:53Hang on a minute, shouldn't they have called it Small Cats?
0:05:53 > 0:05:54That's your lot for today.
0:05:54 > 0:05:56Have a great day at school.
0:05:56 > 0:06:04See you later.
