0:00:14 > 0:00:16It's five years on from the terrible earthquake that hit Japan.

0:00:16 > 0:00:21And the natural event that draws in the crowds.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33On 11 March 2011, Japan was struck by one of the most powerful

0:00:33 > 0:00:36earthquakes on record.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40It caused a giant wave out at sea, called a tsunami, which grew

0:00:40 > 0:00:42to ten metres high.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Half an hour after the quake, the tsunami hit the north east coast

0:00:45 > 0:00:48of Japan, destroying everything in its path.

0:00:48 > 0:00:52Today, five years on from that terrible day, ceremonies have been

0:00:52 > 0:00:55taking place to mark the occasion and remember those

0:00:55 > 0:00:57who lost their lives.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01Hinako was one of the children whose lives changed forever that day,

0:01:01 > 0:01:05and Leah went to meet her.

0:01:07 > 0:01:12Today in Ishinomaki, life is returning to normal.

0:01:12 > 0:01:18But one girl who will never forget what happened that day is Hinako.

0:01:21 > 0:01:25TRANSLATION: I was sitting somewhere around here when we felt the quake.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27At first I didn't think it would be that big,

0:01:27 > 0:01:31but soon I realised it would be huge.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33We all went under desks to protect ourselves,

0:01:33 > 0:01:35but the desks were shifting and the windows

0:01:35 > 0:01:37were broken.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40We all knew the earthquake wouldn't be as small as the ones

0:01:40 > 0:01:43we were used to.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46So, this is the room that Hinako and her friends witnessed

0:01:46 > 0:01:51the tsunami waves rising and rising, and it was quite fast,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54it was quite high.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57TRANSLATION: It was shocking to see the seats and swings floating

0:01:57 > 0:01:59in the water.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02Rising up high enough to cover the whole slide.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04I wondered, if I was outside at this very moment,

0:02:04 > 0:02:08what would happen to me.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11Hinako took us to where her old house used to be.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14No one in the house was killed, but this empty spot

0:02:14 > 0:02:17is all that remains.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20This was where your home used to be.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23Can you tell us what happened to it?

0:02:23 > 0:02:26TRANSLATION: Ever since I was born, I lived in this house with my mum,

0:02:26 > 0:02:28dad and big sister.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30She was alone at home when the tsunami hit

0:02:30 > 0:02:32the house.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35She ran to our neighbour and saw a car being washed away

0:02:35 > 0:02:36by the tsunami.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39She insisted she never wanted to live around here again.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42That's why we decided to leave the area.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44My school friends helped me after the difficult times

0:02:44 > 0:02:46following the tsunami.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48I have many friends now.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52I feel very lucky.

0:02:52 > 0:02:54And don't forget to head online to watch Leah's special report

0:02:54 > 0:02:59from Japan and find out exactly what happened five years ago today.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Planting trees around rivers could help to protect some areas

0:03:02 > 0:03:06from flooding, according to new research.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09A report says that tree planting could help to lower water levels

0:03:09 > 0:03:13during floods by as much as 20%.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16It's just one of the ideas that's being put forward to help protect

0:03:16 > 0:03:19towns that are at risk.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Tourists in South America were treated to an amazing natural

0:03:22 > 0:03:26sight when giant chunks of the Perito Moreno glacier broke

0:03:26 > 0:03:30off in front of them in southern Argentina.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34The glacier measures about 70 metres in height.

0:03:34 > 0:03:39Every so often ice breaks off and crashes into Lake Argentina.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42It was a mixed night for English clubs in the Europa League.

0:03:42 > 0:03:46Tottenham lost 3-0 to German side Borussia Dortmund.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino meant that

0:03:50 > 0:03:54Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg

0:03:54 > 0:03:56of their last 16 tie.

0:03:56 > 0:04:02Manager Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his team's performance.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Before the game, we knew it was only the first leg,

0:04:05 > 0:04:09but we need to win it, and we did, so that is great.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Now, one week until the next game.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17We know it is not easy, but we are in a good position now.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19And we want to go to the next round.

0:04:19 > 0:04:21And for this, we have to play again like

0:04:37 > 0:04:42I thought that I have not really seen a doll dressed up in hijab

0:04:42 > 0:04:47before, and I thought, why

0:04:47 > 0:04:50not create a doll that can actually dress the way I dress?
