:00:34. > :00:37.Right now, world leaders are meeting in Paris to discuss what countries

:00:38. > :00:41.can do to limit the effects of climate change.

:00:42. > :00:47.Kiribati is a nation of about 105,000 people,

:00:48. > :00:50.that sits, surrounded by water, halfway between Hawaii and

:00:51. > :00:59.It may happen that, in a few years' time,

:01:00. > :01:02.Climate change is something all the children learn

:01:03. > :01:05.The land there only goes about six metres above sea level,

:01:06. > :01:08.that's just a little higher than a double decker bus.

:01:09. > :01:10.But scientists think that it could be among the first places

:01:11. > :01:13.in the world to be affected by rising sea levels,

:01:14. > :01:16.as the planet heats up and melts ice in places like Antarctica.

:01:17. > :01:18.It's a complicated issue but people living on Kiribati believe

:01:19. > :01:21.that the water is already rising here due to climate change.

:01:22. > :01:28.If it's high tide, the water comes up to our house.

:01:29. > :01:35.With my brothers and sisters, I mop up the water and we clean the porch.

:01:36. > :01:46.It gets a dirty colour and it tastes salty and dirty."

:01:47. > :01:49.TRANSLATED: As you can see, we lifted our belongings,

:01:50. > :01:53.and the cupboard, the table and our pots, to a safe height.

:01:54. > :01:55.It's one of the things world leaders are hoping to tackle

:01:56. > :01:58.at the Climate Change Conference in Paris at the moment.

:01:59. > :02:01.They're setting goals about how much they want try to limit the planet

:02:02. > :02:04.But for people in Kiribati, it's a worrying time.

:02:05. > :02:09.If the sea continues to rise, we will go away.

:02:10. > :02:13.But the problem is that we don't have another place to live.

:02:14. > :02:17.I will feel like nobody because Kiribati defines me

:02:18. > :02:27.And if my country disappears, who am I then?

:02:28. > :02:29.Next week, history will be made when British astronaut,

:02:30. > :02:32.Tim Peake, heads off into space, on Tuesday.

:02:33. > :02:36.He's got just four days to go, so we're counting down with some top
