0:00:20 > 0:00:23Loads of you will be staying at home today as hundreds

0:00:23 > 0:00:25of schools are closed because of the wintery weather.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Watch this.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30There was plenty of fun to be had yesterday as snowy weather

0:00:30 > 0:00:31swept across the UK.

0:00:31 > 0:00:35Up to 30cm of snow coated parts of the country.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I like it because where we live we never get any snow!

0:00:38 > 0:00:40I like snow because you can make snow angels and

0:00:40 > 0:00:41snowmen!

0:00:41 > 0:00:51I find it really fun to do.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53And the freezing conditions have continued this morning,

0:00:53 > 0:00:55meaning hundreds of schools across England and Wales

0:00:55 > 0:01:01will be closed because of the wintry weather.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Temperatures have been between -1 and one degrees in built-up

0:01:03 > 0:01:06areas, but as low as -10C in some countryside areas.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Yesterday the snow saw trains and flights cancelled,

0:01:08 > 0:01:10and provided a snowy backdrop for some big rugby

0:01:10 > 0:01:11and footy matches.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings of ice for Wales,

0:01:14 > 0:01:23the Midlands and the South East.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25It also warned of more wintry showers and icy conditions

0:01:25 > 0:01:30across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:30 > 0:01:34There could be up to 5cm of more snow in some parts of the South.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37So keep those gloves on, there may be time to build another snowman!

0:01:37 > 0:01:40And we want to hear from you today - are you stuck at home

0:01:40 > 0:01:43because of the snow or are you in school but having fun?

0:01:43 > 0:01:46Get in touch over at Newsround online and send us a picture

0:01:46 > 0:01:48of what you are up to!

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Let's take a look at the big footie stories -

0:01:51 > 0:01:54and it was a record breaking day in the Premier League...

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Nicolas Otamendi hit the winner for Manchester City as they became

0:01:57 > 0:02:00the first English team to win 14 top-flight matches in one season -

0:02:00 > 0:02:02as they beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04It means the league leaders go 11 points ahead

0:02:04 > 0:02:12at the top of the table.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14And a Wayne Rooney penalty meant that the Merseyside derby

0:02:14 > 0:02:16between Liverpool and Everton ended in a 1-1 draw.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Mo Salah gave Liverpool the lead but Everton captain Rooney

0:02:19 > 0:02:29scored his first ever derby goal.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35There are thousands of kids in the UK caring for relatives

0:02:35 > 0:02:37who are ill or can't look after themselves.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39And for many young carers, Christmas can bring extra pressures.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42We went to meet Abi to find out how her and her mum

0:02:42 > 0:02:44will be spending the holidays.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47If I could have a wish, like one wish, it would be

0:02:47 > 0:02:49to make my mum's illness go.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51For Abi and her mum, Christmas is their favourite time of year.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55But unlike most 11-year-olds, Abi cannot just chill

0:02:55 > 0:02:59out over the holidays.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Her mum has a disease called MS.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06That sometimes stops her from doing the stuff that she wants,

0:03:06 > 0:03:07like running, walking, and doing simple activities

0:03:07 > 0:03:17like bending as well.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23That means that Abi has to help her mum do certain things,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24even on Christmas Day.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27When I wake up, I help her put some socks on and shoes.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29I come down but I don't open presents.

0:03:29 > 0:03:30I make breakfast instead.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32It's not how you normally spend Christmas.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35You feel like you want to do more, especially when there

0:03:35 > 0:03:37is more special times, you want to help and

0:03:37 > 0:03:38you want to be there.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41So being a carer for your mum, does that mean that sometimes

0:03:41 > 0:03:43you miss out on doing things that people your age would

0:03:43 > 0:03:53normally be doing?

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Well, most young kids could go to the park

0:03:55 > 0:03:58or play with their friends, but if my mum is ill,

0:03:58 > 0:04:00or I need to stay in, I kind of don't have

0:04:00 > 0:04:03that opportunity often.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Abi will go off and do all of those brilliant things

0:04:06 > 0:04:08but in her head she is always thinking, where's Mum?

0:04:08 > 0:04:18Who is with mum?

0:04:21 > 0:04:24It can be really tough caring for a relative but luckily Abi gets

0:04:24 > 0:04:27lots of support from her school and at a special group

0:04:27 > 0:04:32run by a charity.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35The help that I get says just because you are a young carer

0:04:35 > 0:04:37doesn't mean you are different to everyone else.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40Every bit of being a young carer is amazing, because you can

0:04:40 > 0:04:42go out with Barnardos, or Barnardos could help

0:04:42 > 0:04:44you and it's a sign that you are not alone with this.

0:04:44 > 0:04:54You have people that will help you.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58What does it mean to you to be a carer for your mum?

0:04:58 > 0:05:00It's like cheese and crackers or strawberries and cream,

0:05:00 > 0:05:05we stick together for everything.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08Britain has a new tallest mountain.

0:05:08 > 0:05:14Mount Hope, which is in the part of the Antarctic claimed by the UK,

0:05:14 > 0:05:16was recently re-measured and found to tower above the previous title

0:05:16 > 0:05:18holder, Mount Jackson.

0:05:18 > 0:05:24It is over 3,239 metres high!

0:05:24 > 0:05:27OK - we've got the latest Strictly news now, so if you don't

0:05:27 > 0:05:29want to know, close your eyes and hum the theme tune

0:05:29 > 0:05:30for about 30 seconds...

0:05:30 > 0:05:38It's going to be an epic final.

0:05:38 > 0:05:40Joe and Katya!

0:05:40 > 0:05:43Joe McFadden from Holby TV was first through along with Debbie McGhee

0:05:43 > 0:05:45and Alexandra Burke.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47That meant Gemma and Molly in the dance off, and unfortunately

0:05:47 > 0:05:52Molly lost out and will not be in next week's grand final.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54That's it from me.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56Newsround's back at 4.20 - have a great day guys -

0:05:56 > 0:05:57whetever you're doing.
