:00:00. > :00:09.Hi I'm Martin with your evening update. First tonight,

:00:10. > :00:14.hurricane-force winds of over 100 miles per hour are battering the

:00:15. > :00:17.country. A "Red" weather warning has been issued by the Met Office.

:00:18. > :00:21.100,000 homes in England and Wales have had their power cut off. BBC

:00:22. > :00:32.reporter Jon Kay braved the gusts on England's South Coast earlier. In

:00:33. > :00:38.the harbour here by the wall, but I'm nearly 6 foot, nearly 14 stone

:00:39. > :00:42.and I'm struggling to stand. The spray hitting my skin... Oh! It is

:00:43. > :00:48.like somebody sticking needles into me.

:00:49. > :00:52.And it's not just the wind that's causing havoc - more rain is

:00:53. > :00:55.forecast for the next few days. This could mean further problems for

:00:56. > :00:59.flood-hit areas such as Datchet in Berkshire, where Ayesha has been

:01:00. > :01:05.today. Here in Datchet is a very watery scene indeed. The place has

:01:06. > :01:10.been inundated with water. The Army has arrived and they've been putting

:01:11. > :01:14.sandbags outside homes and businesses to try and protect them.

:01:15. > :01:20.On Monday this started when the river Thames burst its banks and

:01:21. > :01:25.inundated the whole yf. We've been speaking to -- the whole area. We've

:01:26. > :01:30.been speaking to children about how they feel about the situation. We

:01:31. > :01:37.haven't been to school since Friday. We are not allowed to use the water,

:01:38. > :01:42.because it is contaminated. No-one can get out and it is boring at

:01:43. > :01:46.home, because we can't go anywhere. The water is rising and the Army are

:01:47. > :01:50.here trying to help people. They are putting more sandbags out to try and

:01:51. > :01:54.stop the water from coming in. Here as well as in the nearby village of

:01:55. > :01:58.Wraysbury people are going to be really concerned about those water

:01:59. > :02:04.levels tonight. They won't know when they'll be able to return home.

:02:05. > :02:08.Thanks Ayesha. There's plenty more on the floods on our website as

:02:09. > :02:11.well. Check out Nel's special report from a family in flood-hit

:02:12. > :02:14.Wraysbury. Find out what the weather warnings mean, and discover why the

:02:15. > :02:17.floods are happening. Football now, and tonight - weather

:02:18. > :02:19.permitting - there are some big matches in the Premier League.

:02:20. > :02:23.Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are all in action. Arsenal

:02:24. > :02:26.could see themselves back at the top of the table if they beat Manchester

:02:27. > :02:35.United at the Emirates. Everton will also be pushing towards a top four

:02:36. > :02:39.spot when they play Crystal palace. Last up there was more action in

:02:40. > :02:42.Sochi with Team GB's Chemmy Alcott finishing 19th in the downhill

:02:43. > :02:45.skiing. And not great news for the woman's curling team either, as they

:02:46. > :02:49.lost 9-6 against Canada. But my favourite sport of the day is the

:02:50. > :02:52.men's Nordic combined - a mixture of cross country skiing and ski

:02:53. > :02:54.jumping. The gold went to German Eric Frenzel.

:02:55. > :02:56.That's all from me. Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.

:02:57. > :03:00.Bye.
