0:00:00 > 0:00:02See you

0:00:03 > 0:00:07Happy Monday morning, I'm Ayshah with your top stories.

0:00:07 > 0:00:12We check out the latest from the Winter Olympics

0:00:12 > 0:00:14Plastic problems in the Arctic, and...

0:00:14 > 0:00:17We take a look at one of the biggest parties in the world

0:00:28 > 0:00:33First, we're off to the Winter Olympics in South Korea,

0:00:33 > 0:00:37where strong winds caused mayhem at the Phoenix Snow

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Park in Pyeongchang.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39The women's slopestyle final was badly affected

0:00:39 > 0:00:41by the wind conditions.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44Britain's Aimee Fuller came 17th and crashed on her second run.

0:00:44 > 0:00:46She was OK though!

0:00:46 > 0:00:48The gold medal went to defending champion Jamie Anderson

0:00:48 > 0:00:51of the United States, who pulled out these

0:00:51 > 0:00:57incredible skills to win.

0:00:58 > 0:01:00It seems that nowhere in the world is safe from plastic pollution.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03Researchers are concerned after finding that a huge amount

0:01:03 > 0:01:06of plastic waste is now reaching the Arctic.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Here's Ricky.

0:01:10 > 0:01:13From a distance these beautiful shores on the Arctic coastline

0:01:13 > 0:01:17of Norway look pristine, unspoiled.

0:01:17 > 0:01:23Take a closer look and it's a very different picture.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26The plastic polluting our oceans has now made it to the so far

0:01:26 > 0:01:33relatively untouched Arctic.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36Just last year I think we brought in 30 tonnes.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40Household, it is food wrapping, bottles.

0:01:40 > 0:01:45One of the biggest causes of plastic pollution in the area is fishing.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Bits of rope and netting can be found everywhere and it's having

0:01:48 > 0:01:51an impact on the local wildlife.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55The rubbish comes from all over Europe, and even

0:01:55 > 0:01:57as far away as America.

0:01:57 > 0:02:04I mean, you can throw things into the ocean in Florida and think

0:02:04 > 0:02:08I am throwing it away and then it might appear on our shores.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12He has made it his mission to pick up as much of the litter as he can

0:02:12 > 0:02:17around these Norwegian fjords.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20What to say?

0:02:20 > 0:02:25it is so obvious what doing here is like the tip of the iceberg.

0:02:25 > 0:02:31This is what is readily available.

0:02:31 > 0:02:35I mean, I pick up this little piece of litter and we won't see it again.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38It helps.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Now we've seen people walking on the moon but will it ever be

0:02:41 > 0:02:44possible for that to happen on Mars?

0:02:44 > 0:02:47It sounds like an idea for a new sci-fi movie doesn't it?

0:02:47 > 0:02:51But actually a research team have been spending time in the Oman

0:02:51 > 0:02:54desert doing experiments that could one day make that a reality.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Sending a man mission to Mars has been

0:03:01 > 0:03:02Sending a man mission to Mars has been a space explores ambition for

0:03:02 > 0:03:09years. These researchers are hoping to make it a reality. There are in

0:03:09 > 0:03:13the Oman desert in the middle east doing experiments that could one day

0:03:13 > 0:03:19help humans to survive on the red planet. Why oh man? We need a place

0:03:19 > 0:03:24that looks as much as Mars as possible. We found it here. It is a

0:03:24 > 0:03:31beautiful place but is a sign difficultly useful place and

0:03:31 > 0:03:35operationally useful place.Although it is a distant dream, it felt

0:03:35 > 0:03:40closer on Tuesday when the company successfully launched the world's

0:03:40 > 0:03:44most powerful rocket. While getting there is one challenge, astronauts

0:03:44 > 0:03:48will also need to be able to survive on Mars. That is why these

0:03:48 > 0:03:54experiments are so crucial.Once we will go to Mars and we will stay on

0:03:54 > 0:03:58Mars, we will have to use the resources we find on Mars because we

0:03:58 > 0:04:04cannot bring everything from Earth. That is called in situ resource

0:04:04 > 0:04:09utilisation. We use the things we find there to sustain life,

0:04:09 > 0:04:14sustained missions and then log run may be other things. For now this

0:04:14 > 0:04:18vast desert is the perfect spot to carry out tests like growing

0:04:18 > 0:04:23vegetables, and trying out a bulky spacesuits. Who knows one day

0:04:23 > 0:04:26similar scenes could be taking place on Mars.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30People call it the biggest party in the world -

0:04:30 > 0:04:32and judging by these pictures, it really is.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Carnival is under way in the city of Rio in Brazil.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38Every year more than a million people from all over the world take

0:04:38 > 0:04:41to the city's streets for the massive festival

0:04:41 > 0:04:43which includes parties, dancing and amazing costumes.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46It's not just for fun though, there are competitions with winners

0:04:46 > 0:04:50announced at the end of the celebrations later this week.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53I'm back in half an hour with loads more.

0:04:53 > 0:05:01See you then.
