:00:00. > :00:00.Hi, I'm Leah with the top stories this Thursday morning.

:00:00. > :00:12.The kids seeing animals in the wild for the first time...

:00:13. > :00:15.The treasure hunter who struck gold...

:00:16. > :00:28.And Blue Peter's Iggy leaves the show to become a guide dog.

:00:29. > :00:32.First up, you might be heading for a day in the classroom,

:00:33. > :00:35.but in South Africa some kids from cities and poor areas have been

:00:36. > :00:51.One, two, three! Respect yourself,

:00:52. > :00:53.respect each other! Here in South Africa,

:00:54. > :00:55.these kids are learning to respect their environment

:00:56. > :00:57.and the animals that live in it. It's part of a special

:00:58. > :01:03.project to teach kids more about African wildlife

:01:04. > :01:07.and the effects of poaching. In this country, elephants

:01:08. > :01:11.are poached for their tusks and at least one rhino is killed

:01:12. > :01:14.every day for their horn. Poachers take them because they can

:01:15. > :01:17.be sold for huge amounts of money to Asian countries

:01:18. > :01:20.like China and Vietnam. Some people living there use

:01:21. > :01:21.the tusks and horns to make ornaments and believe

:01:22. > :01:25.they have special powers, which scientists say isn't true.

:01:26. > :01:28.The programme is about inspiring kids to care.

:01:29. > :01:31.It's everything that we're trying to do is bring kids out

:01:32. > :01:34.into the bush and give them an opportunity to experience

:01:35. > :01:38.wildlife in order for them to start to develop a relationship with them

:01:39. > :01:43.in order for them to care about them.

:01:44. > :01:46.Kids taking part play sports and have special lessons to learn

:01:47. > :01:50.about animals and most importantly get to spot them in the wild.

:01:51. > :01:57.I really want to see a lion because I want to see their teeth,

:01:58. > :02:00.they're really sharp. I wish to see the

:02:01. > :02:04.beautiful big animals. I've never seen the big

:02:05. > :02:06.animals in the world. I want to see the white

:02:07. > :02:10.rhino because it protects animals that it defends.

:02:11. > :02:13.These kids are heading out on their first Safari.

:02:14. > :02:29.Many have not seen creatures like elephants or rhinos before.

:02:30. > :02:32.Normally we don't see rhinos in part of our areas.

:02:33. > :02:39.It's exciting, I've never seen a rhino

:02:40. > :02:48.before so it's exciting. I've never seen a giraffe before.

:02:49. > :02:53.It's hoped this experience will be inspire these kids to take an active

:02:54. > :02:55.role in protecting animals and the environment in the future.

:02:56. > :02:57.Blue Peter fans watching will know that today Iggy is leaving

:02:58. > :02:59.to start life as a full time Guide Dog.

:03:00. > :03:03.Iggy joined the show two years ago when she was just a pup and she's

:03:04. > :03:06.had lots of adventures on the show and with presenter Lindsey.

:03:07. > :03:09.But now it's time for her to start life as a guide dog.

:03:10. > :03:15.Lindsey joins me in the studio now, along with Iggy's new owner Callum.

:03:16. > :03:25.Morning to you both. What brilliant news. Callum, to you first of all,

:03:26. > :03:31.how did you get matched to Iggy? I applied in June last year for guide

:03:32. > :03:35.dogs and then they did all the usual processes, working out care skills,

:03:36. > :03:38.working on fruits and that sort of things, and then I coupled on the

:03:39. > :03:46.waiting list in a few months later here I am with Iggy. Had it you feel

:03:47. > :03:51.when you were told it's a blue Peter dot? I didn't know, I was quite

:03:52. > :03:56.surprised. I was really surprised. They tell you both of information

:03:57. > :04:02.about the dog and then at the end, one other little thing, this dog has

:04:03. > :04:07.been on Bloop Peter for a couple of years, are you up for media

:04:08. > :04:11.attention? And your coping fine. Two years or your life with his

:04:12. > :04:16.beautiful dog, Lindsay, what we miss the most about her? Oh, I'll miss

:04:17. > :04:21.loads about her. We've had a brilliant journey on Blue Peter,

:04:22. > :04:26.shall come in and sniff around, say hello to all the cameramen, we gave

:04:27. > :04:30.her a bath in the studio once, I think there was footage of it there.

:04:31. > :04:36.I will miss her being lovely and a bit mischievous, isn't she? Yes,

:04:37. > :04:45.there is a cheeky side! What kinds of things that she get up to? Around

:04:46. > :04:51.the house? Yes. Her favourite game when left alone in the house is to

:04:52. > :04:55.our trainers or slippers and hide it somewhere. That's something we often

:04:56. > :05:00.come home to. You're like, where do I put my other shoe? Oh Iggy has it.

:05:01. > :05:03.Thank you so much for coming on to talk to us about it.

:05:04. > :05:06.Now to Britain's largest ever gold nugget discovery found off the coast

:05:07. > :05:10.Vincent found it four years ago but has only just revealed details

:05:11. > :05:15.The area where it was found has been searched again in case there's any

:05:16. > :05:20.more gold because it's thought it was part of a ?120 million

:05:21. > :05:31.He can't keep the gold though as it's being put

:05:32. > :05:40.I looked down and I remember thinking, wow, it was glowing in the

:05:41. > :05:42.sunlight like a Faberge egg and I remember looking at it,

:05:43. > :05:44.I was thinking, remember this, I've never

:05:45. > :05:46.seen anything like it except for in a museum.

:05:47. > :05:49.Going to the dentist is never fun for us but treating elephants

:05:50. > :05:52.Experts at a zoo in Bedfordshire realised something was wrong

:05:53. > :05:54.with Looka when she wasn't eating her food.

:05:55. > :05:57.A human dentist was called in to help and he removed the tooth.

:05:58. > :06:00.She's been doing very well, we're told.

:06:01. > :06:01.That's all from me, Newsround's back this afternoon at 4:20 with Ayshah.
