:00:13. > :00:19.and we meet the kids on the search for bumblebees.

:00:20. > :00:28.Let's start then with the amazing story of the nine-year-old who

:00:29. > :00:33.Around 100 kids each year are born without one or both of their ears,

:00:34. > :00:36.but now doctors in London have come up with a new way to help them.

:00:50. > :00:54.Doctors helped him to hear by wiring a hearing aid directly

:00:55. > :01:02.But Kieran really wanted to have two ears.

:01:03. > :01:10.Every time I look at them, I say in my head, "I want ears

:01:11. > :01:19.Then came a letter from Great Ormond Street Hospital

:01:20. > :01:24.in London, which said he was going to get his wish - new ears.

:01:25. > :01:27.I'm going to keep this part, but they're just going to make

:01:28. > :01:40.I might have, like, big elf ears, or elephant ears!

:01:41. > :01:44.Kieran and his parents went to the famous

:01:45. > :01:48.Children's Hospital, where surgeons explained how the operation worked.

:01:49. > :01:52.So, Kieran, we're going to take the gristle from your chest

:01:53. > :01:56.when you're completely asleep, and I'm going to carve a framework

:01:57. > :02:00.in the shape of an ear and place it in a pocket under the skin.

:02:01. > :02:04.Doctors use the shape of Kieran's mother's ears to help create

:02:05. > :02:14.Kieran was soon taken through for his operation, where surgeons went

:02:15. > :02:21.about carefully making and attaching his brand-new ears to his head.

:02:22. > :02:24.Hey, Kieran, look what I've got, I've got a mirror.

:02:25. > :02:28.You can have a really good look at your ears now.

:02:29. > :02:39.Kieran's dad says the surgery and the wait to get Kieran's new

:02:40. > :02:44.He's already a pretty confident chap,

:02:45. > :02:50.he's very cool about his condition, and this will now mean the only

:02:51. > :02:55.thing he has to deal with is his deafness, and that's already readily

:02:56. > :03:07.Now he can just be a normal kid that wants to muck around.

:03:08. > :03:10.Next to the question of whether it's right to stop prisoners

:03:11. > :03:15.The European Court of Human Rights will decide this morning on

:03:16. > :03:18.whether to award compensation to UK prisoners who've complained about

:03:19. > :03:23.They say their rights were breached when they

:03:24. > :03:29.weren't allowed to take part in European elections five years ago.

:03:30. > :03:31.Next to a science experiment on a massive scale,

:03:32. > :03:35.as children from all over the UK are being asked to spot bumblebees.

:03:36. > :03:38.The Big Bumblebee Project aims to explore why bee populations have

:03:39. > :03:46.You're being asked to identify different species and send

:03:47. > :03:50.I caught up with some of the kids taking part

:03:51. > :03:57.in the study and Dr Helen Roy, who told me why bees are so important.

:03:58. > :04:05.We are taking lots of pictures of them, and then put the picture onto

:04:06. > :04:11.the blog and write a message and send it. All of these bees that we

:04:12. > :04:16.are seeing here, and some hopper flies as well, are really important

:04:17. > :04:20.in pollination, carrying the pollen from one flower to another, and that

:04:21. > :04:22.is important to food production and wild flowers, as well.

:04:23. > :04:25.There's more on this on the Newsround website, and you can

:05:13. > :05:16.the ambulance sent with the hospital, and I had to be airlifted

:05:17. > :05:21.to the main hospital, they thought there was something going on with my

:05:22. > :05:26.heart. It was crazy, I was in hospital for four days. It was scary
