:00:00. > :00:12.Hello everyone. Ayshah here bringing you the latest this Tuesday
:00:13. > :00:18.afternoon. No money. No television. No phones. No technology. Food, we
:00:19. > :00:21.need food. As people in the Philippines wait for help to arrive,
:00:22. > :00:29.we are looking at how the world s reacting to the disaster.
:00:30. > :00:32.First, it's been almost five days since one of the most powerful
:00:33. > :00:35.storms ever recorded swept across the Philippines in south-east Asia.
:00:36. > :00:40.Millions have been affected, and 10,000 people are thought to have
:00:41. > :00:43.died. And whilst a huge appeal has now been launched to try and raise
:00:44. > :00:47.money to help, more bad weather and tough conditions on the ground are
:00:48. > :00:54.making the job really difficult The city of Tacloban was one of the
:00:55. > :00:57.worst hit areas. Houses and schools were flattened by a wall of water
:00:58. > :01:01.which engulfed the coast. Here's a picture of the seaside city before
:01:02. > :01:08.the typhoon. And a picture after. The devastation is clear to see The
:01:09. > :01:13.BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes is in Tacloban where he spoke to some of
:01:14. > :01:18.the children affected. Hello there. Hello. How are you
:01:19. > :01:24.Fine. What are you waiting - what are you doing here? Waiting for
:01:25. > :01:34.rice. Are you hungry? Yes. Yes. Do you have any food? No. No food. When
:01:35. > :01:41.did you eat? Did you eat today? Yes. You ate today? No food. This is the
:01:42. > :01:45.really big issue now here, people lost all their food, their rice was
:01:46. > :01:48.damaged in the storm. It's now the fifth day since the storm. Supplies
:01:49. > :01:52.are running out. You can see the result. There's still a sense that
:01:53. > :01:56.aid is not getting in here. At the airport there are planes coming in.
:01:57. > :02:01.But we don't see any of it here The situation is becoming more and more
:02:02. > :02:08.tense. More and more hunger, people are getting increasingly desperate.
:02:09. > :02:13.What is the world doing now to try to get help to thousands of people,
:02:14. > :02:16.many of them kids, whose lives have been turned upside down by the
:02:17. > :02:20.typhoon? I have been looking into it. The typhoon has left thousands
:02:21. > :02:25.of people without food or shelter and in desperate need of help. The
:02:26. > :02:30.United Nations, which represents 193 countries around the globe, has
:02:31. > :02:35.called on members to raise as much as 190 million from the public. But
:02:36. > :02:43.governments have also pledged to send aid. David Cameron has said the
:02:44. > :02:51.UK will give 10 million and has sent a Navy ship. The journey will take
:02:52. > :02:56.five days. The USA has promised about 12.5 million and is sending a
:02:57. > :02:59.huge aircraft carrier ship from Hong Kong which they think could be there
:03:00. > :03:01.in two or three days. Other countries have promised money,
:03:02. > :03:12.too. This aid is coming to save people's
:03:13. > :03:15.lives by giving them the food, water and shelter they need. Rebuilding
:03:16. > :03:22.their homes, schools and everything else they had before the typhoon
:03:23. > :03:25.will take months or even years. A reminder, if you are upset by
:03:26. > :03:30.anything you have seen in the news we have loads of help and advice on
:03:31. > :03:38.our website. You can also see a gallery showing how aid is getting
:03:39. > :03:40.to people. Next, Jess Ennis-Hill, Nicola Adams
:03:41. > :03:43.and Christine Ohuruogu - just some of the superstars that helped put
:03:44. > :03:46.women's sport in the spotlight during last year's incredible
:03:47. > :03:51.Olympics. But a group of MPs is concerned that it still might not be
:03:52. > :03:55.as easy for girls to get into sport as it is for boys - and there may
:03:56. > :04:00.not be enough female sports stars on TV to inspire girls to play. Today,
:04:01. > :04:04.they've kicked off an investigation to work out what can be done about
:04:05. > :04:08.it. And we've been asking you what you think might help get more girls
:04:09. > :04:12.playing more sport. Class three from a school in Woking
:04:13. > :04:15.reckon that girls would be encouraged to play if they saw more
:04:16. > :04:22.girls playing sport on TV and in the news.
:04:23. > :04:26.James said: Thank you for all the comments. We
:04:27. > :04:30.will be talking about this in our later bulletin with a former England
:04:31. > :04:39.netball international, Tracey Neville. Join us for that.
:04:40. > :04:41.Last up - how about this for the ultimate bird's eye view! Scientists
:04:42. > :04:44.in Exeter have been monitoring gannets using tiny cameras which
:04:45. > :04:49.they tape to the seabirds' heads. And it gives an amazing insight into
:04:50. > :04:52.how they live. Britain is home to 60% of the world's population and
:04:53. > :05:00.the organisation says more needs to be done to protect them. That's it
:05:01. > :05:01.for now. I will be back here at 6.50pm. See you then. Bye.
