:00:42. > :00:45.eggs in the morning? And we're not talking scrambled, poached or fried.
:00:45. > :00:49.Over 30 million eggs are eaten every day in Britain, more than
:00:49. > :00:53.half of them from hens that live in cages, a lot of which aren't much
:00:53. > :00:57.bigger than an A4 piece of paper. They're called battery cages and
:00:57. > :01:00.from next year they'll be banned in Britain and the rest of Europe.
:01:00. > :01:02.Some cages are still allowed, but chickens will have more space and
:01:02. > :01:06.places to perch and nest. Leah's got the story.
:01:06. > :01:09.You might like to think your eggs come from hens like this, but lots
:01:09. > :01:12.of them come from battery farms like this. Under the old rules,
:01:12. > :01:18.chickens were packed into cages with just this much space to move
:01:18. > :01:21.around. They couldn't flap their wings and they had nowhere to nest
:01:21. > :01:26.or perch. Under the new rules, they're still allowed to live in
:01:26. > :01:35.cages, but they'll have a bit more space. Animal rights groups are
:01:35. > :01:39.pleased about the ban. It is excellent news. It means millions
:01:39. > :01:43.or hundreds of millions of hens will no longer be kept in small
:01:43. > :01:52.cages. Up until a few months ago, this farm in Cheshire had thousands
:01:52. > :01:57.of hens in battery cages. This is still a cage. All of the hens have
:01:58. > :02:02.access to the perch spacious, about 15 centimetres of space for each
:02:02. > :02:06.bird. They also have a nest box where all the eggs will be laid to
:02:06. > :02:09.imitate what happens in nature. all eggs come from caged hens. Some
:02:09. > :02:13.eggs are free range, which means the birds can roam around. But eggs
:02:13. > :02:16.like these are more expensive to produce. Under the law, any eggs
:02:16. > :02:20.you buy have to have a label on them saying what kind of hens they
:02:20. > :02:23.came from. Some big supermarkets have actually stopped selling eggs
:02:23. > :02:27.from caged hens completely, but animal rights groups say more needs
:02:27. > :02:31.to be done. They say they'll continue to fight for an all-out
:02:31. > :02:36.ban, but for now the cages are here to stay.
:02:36. > :02:39.Now, here's a man with a big year ahead of him. Barack Obama,
:02:39. > :02:44.President of the United States, and one of the most powerful and famous
:02:44. > :02:47.men in the world. But in the next 12 months, all that could change.
:02:47. > :02:50.It's the American elections next year and with lots of people there
:02:50. > :02:54.facing a tough time right now, Obama has a real battle on his
:02:54. > :02:57.hands. I've travelled from Obama's home town, Chicago, all the way to
:02:57. > :03:07.Washington DC to find out what Americans think of their president.

:03:15. > :03:18.lot of people for change was on its way. It was an historic moment and
:03:18. > :03:25.many Americans can remember exactly where they were on that famous

:03:31. > :03:41.Because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining

:03:41. > :03:48.moment, change has come to America. It started going crazy. It was
:03:48. > :03:52.amazing to think how one man can bring all of these people together.
:03:52. > :03:56.120 million people turned out to cast their vote. Some of them had
:03:56. > :04:02.never voted before and it gave Barack Obama the biggest election
:04:02. > :04:07.victory for more than 40 years. This is where our road trip starts,
:04:07. > :04:10.in a very cold Chicago. It is also where Barack Obama's journey to the
:04:10. > :04:13.White House began and we will follow that route to find out what
:04:13. > :04:18.Americans think of the President three years on because so far he's
:04:18. > :04:23.not had any easy ride. It was here that Barack Obama gave that famous
:04:23. > :04:27.speech before he became one of the most powerful people in the world.
:04:27. > :04:31.Things have changed three years on. His first three years in charge
:04:31. > :04:34.have been hard. He has struggled to make things happen and make changes
:04:34. > :04:39.for top people have said he has not lived up to what they expected and
:04:39. > :04:44.with less than a year to go before America decides if they want him to
:04:44. > :04:48.carry on as President, some say America is more divided than ever.
:04:48. > :04:52.This week I will be hearing both sides of the story, meeting the
:04:52. > :04:55.people who still have faith in the President, those living in some of
:04:55. > :05:00.the poorest areas of the country and that people who think it is
:05:00. > :05:07.time for a change. Tomorrow I'll be finding out what it means to have a
:05:07. > :05:10.black President in one of the JLS couldn't do it, neither could
:05:10. > :05:13.the One Direction boys. But these girls did. Little Mix have become
:05:14. > :05:16.the first ever group to snatch The X Factor crown. But despite this
:05:17. > :05:24.year's series making history, the show hasn't gone down such a hit
:05:24. > :05:27.with viewers, as I've been finding out. The winner of the X factor
:05:27. > :05:29.2011 fears... After ten long weeks of live shows,
:05:30. > :05:39.this was the moment Little Mix triumphed over super smiley

:06:09. > :06:12.history, this year's X Factor has It's been knocked down the Saturday
:06:12. > :06:15.night leaderboard several times by Strictly. And even though 15
:06:16. > :06:19.million viewers tuned in to watch the final last night, it's four
:06:19. > :06:24.million fewer than last year - the least watched X Factor final since
:06:24. > :06:34.2007. But the judges are optimistic the show can still produce the next
:06:34. > :06:36.
:06:36. > :06:39.Louis Walsh reckons Little Mix are the next big UK girl group. But
:06:39. > :06:42.they'll have to see off the competition from The Saturdays and
:06:42. > :06:46.Sugababes and break the winner's curse felt by the likes of Leon
:06:46. > :06:49.Jackson and Shayne Ward. The first challenge, though, is bagging the
:06:49. > :06:59.Christmas number one with the winner's single, Cannonball. That
