:00:00. > :00:13.Hi, I'm Martin with your morning Newsround. On today's show: The

:00:14. > :00:16.clean-up operation begins after hurricane force winds batter the UK

:00:17. > :00:22.and whale watching from space! This is Newsround.

:00:23. > :00:24.First, more than 100,000 homes are waking up without power after

:00:25. > :00:32.hurricane force-winds battered the UK. Public transport is disrupted

:00:33. > :00:38.and trees have fallen down. It's the morning after the night before and a

:00:39. > :00:41.clean up operation is underway. On this street in Chertsey near London,

:00:42. > :00:48.the water pumps have been running all night. It's a desperate attempt

:00:49. > :00:54.to keep the water away from homes. Worked until four in the morning

:00:55. > :01:00.last night. And when we got up this morning we went to get a bigger

:01:01. > :01:04.pump. Hopefully it is going down. Hopefully we are winning.

:01:05. > :01:08.But more water is on the way. The River Thames is expected to rise

:01:09. > :01:11.again and could soon reach its highest level for 60 years. On

:01:12. > :01:15.Wednesday, 100 mile an hour winds hit parts of Wales - strong enough

:01:16. > :01:20.to blow trees down. People were warned to stay indoors after trees

:01:21. > :01:22.fell on power lines. One person died, and more than a hundred

:01:23. > :01:28.thousand homes are without electricity. The bad weather is also

:01:29. > :01:32.affecting public transport. 500 people had to leave Crewe station

:01:33. > :01:35.after the wind damaged the roof and caused a fire - and passengers on

:01:36. > :01:40.this train from London to Edinburgh were stranded in Yorkshire for a

:01:41. > :01:44.while. In Chertsey, special marine police are making sure everybody is

:01:45. > :01:56.safe. The clean-up continues, but the wet winter isn't over yet.

:01:57. > :01:59.The Duke of Cambridge has pledged to support efforts to tackle the

:02:00. > :02:02.illegal trade in wildlife. Speaking in London last night, Prince William

:02:03. > :02:05.set out a five point plan to help look after species such as tigers,

:02:06. > :02:09.elephants and rhinos. Later this morning the Prince will discuss his

:02:10. > :02:18.plans with leaders from around the world and Nel is there for us.

:02:19. > :02:22.The illegal wildlife trade is a serious crime but also big

:02:23. > :02:29.business. Worth six billion pounds internationally. It affects iconic

:02:30. > :02:39.and the Endangered Species Act, like tigers, rhinos, and elephants. But

:02:40. > :02:44.we will also be talking about a species that are endangered. Readers

:02:45. > :02:51.from 50 nations or thereabouts, from across the globe, gathering behind

:02:52. > :02:58.me. They will try to tackle this through three things. Educating

:02:59. > :03:02.people who live in areas where poaching takes place. Reducing the

:03:03. > :03:13.demand in Asia. And enforcing existing laws.

:03:14. > :03:16.To Sochi and it's a busy day for Team GB at the Winter Olympics.

:03:17. > :03:20.James Woods goes in the Freestyle Skiing Men's Slopestyle and all eyes

:03:21. > :03:22.will be on the Women's Skeleton 2006 Olympic silver medallist Shelley

:03:23. > :03:30.Rudman and World Cup champion Lizzy Yarnold representing GB. There's

:03:31. > :03:34.also curling, cross country skiing, speed skating and the team relay in

:03:35. > :03:38.the luge - a new event for the games.

:03:39. > :03:41.Two big football games were called off because of the weather last

:03:42. > :03:44.night - Manchester City against Sunderland and Everton versus

:03:45. > :03:48.Crystal Palace both postponed for safety reasons. A handful of games

:03:49. > :03:52.did survive. Arsenal missed their chance to return to the top of the

:03:53. > :03:56.table after a goalless draw against Manchester Utd. Emanuelle Adebayor

:03:57. > :03:59.scored twice as Spurs won 4-0 at Newcastle, Stoke and Swansea drew

:04:00. > :04:10.and Steven Gerrard's late penalty ensured Liverpool beat Fulham 3-2.

:04:11. > :04:17.This is always a difficult game. They are very well organised.

:04:18. > :04:23.Players that are fighting to stay in the league, that is never an easy

:04:24. > :04:30.game. But great performance against Arsenal, tonight was about three

:04:31. > :04:33.point. Tennis, Andy Murray has eased past

:04:34. > :04:36.Edouard Roger Vasselin in the first round of the ABN Amro world tennis

:04:37. > :04:38.tournament in Rotterdam. The Scot won in straight sets winning 6-3,

:04:39. > :04:41.6-3. Finally, Scientists have come up

:04:42. > :04:45.with a new way for counting the number of whales in the worlds

:04:46. > :04:47.oceans - and they're doing it from space! The method uses

:04:48. > :04:49.high-resolution satellite pictures and image-processing software to

:04:50. > :04:52.detect the great mammals near the ocean surface. Scientists have

:04:53. > :04:56.trialled the test off the coast of Argentina. That's all from me, head

:04:57. > :04:59.over to the website for loads more Newsround goodness - I'm back right

:05:00. > :05:01.here in about half an hour.
