:00:00. > :00:07.Good afternoon, Leah here with a packed show for you this Thursday

:00:08. > :00:17.afternoon. Coming up: We hear YOUR stories about coping with the UK's

:00:18. > :00:24.wild weather. It is quite hard to get to school.

:00:25. > :00:32.And away from the weather, William and Harry do their bit to protect

:00:33. > :00:35.wild animals. This is Newsround. Ellie in Berkshire and her family

:00:36. > :00:39.have been making pancakes to give to the volunteers helping people in

:00:40. > :00:43.their flooded town. Lol in Dorset has lost all the slate tiles off her

:00:44. > :00:46.roof. And Charlene in Lancashire says they had a flood in their

:00:47. > :00:50.garden last night. You've been sending in your stories today after

:00:51. > :00:53.the UK was battered by more wild weather.

:00:54. > :00:56.So let's bring you up to date. Engineers are trying to get power

:00:57. > :00:59.back on for tens of thousands of homes after strong winds battered

:01:00. > :01:03.the UK last night. Severe flood warnings, meaning a serious risk to

:01:04. > :01:06.our safety, are still in place in south-west and south-east England.

:01:07. > :01:10.In Worcester, the army's arrived to help people affected by the floods,

:01:11. > :01:13.and the River Thames is expected to reach its highest level for 60

:01:14. > :01:17.years. Ayshah's been to meet Charlotte, a Newsround viewer living

:01:18. > :01:24.right in the middle of it all in the Thames Valley.

:01:25. > :01:30.This is not your everyday journey to school, but for Charlotte it is the

:01:31. > :01:35.only way in or out of her home. I have come to see what it is like

:01:36. > :01:37.to live with all of those. Charlotte, permission to come

:01:38. > :01:43.on-board? Some places along the River Thames

:01:44. > :01:48.are predicted to reach their highest levels for 60 years. Throughout

:01:49. > :01:54.January steady rainfall has led to more flooding in some areas, because

:01:55. > :01:57.the ground is saturated and the rivers are already overflowing.

:01:58. > :02:02.And here in Runnymede Charlotte and her neighbours are having to get

:02:03. > :02:09.used to the rising water. It's quite hard to get to school, and I cannot

:02:10. > :02:15.walk in the water because it is too deep.

:02:16. > :02:22.So which room are going into narrow? This is the lounge. We have put all

:02:23. > :02:28.of our staff up on the sofas in case the water comes in. These are photos

:02:29. > :02:36.are -- photo albums that we do not want to get wet. All the power has

:02:37. > :02:42.gone so we have torches and candles in every room to move around in the

:02:43. > :02:46.dark. There are about 30 houses along this road. A lot of people had

:02:47. > :02:52.to leave the first time it begin is back it began at the beginning of

:02:53. > :02:55.January. There is a big community spirit.

:02:56. > :03:00.Although there is a break in the weather today, experts are warning

:03:01. > :03:03.conditions in areas such as these could get worse, with heavy rain and

:03:04. > :03:07.high winds expected across the UK. The Newsround website is the only

:03:08. > :03:10.place to be for everything you need to know about this crazy weather.

:03:11. > :03:13.Find out why the flood water just isn't running away.

:03:14. > :03:16.We explain what started all this flooding in the first place.

:03:17. > :03:20.And if you've been affected, you can send us your very own video message

:03:21. > :03:22.that we might even show on Newsround!

:03:23. > :03:26.Right, time to check out some of the worst affected places then, to see

:03:27. > :03:34.how they're coping with the flooding and storms, starting in north-west

:03:35. > :03:38.Wales. Roofs have been ripped off, trees

:03:39. > :03:43.which lasted for centuries torn out of the ground. We may not see how we

:03:44. > :03:49.came force gales batter West Wales again for some time, but weeks of

:03:50. > :03:55.damage are beginning to show and I think people are simply fed up of

:03:56. > :03:59.Britain's severe winter. This is a windy day in North West,

:04:00. > :04:04.but nothing compared to the conditions last night. Anybody who

:04:05. > :04:09.experienced those additions -- conditions would have expected to

:04:10. > :04:13.wake up to conditions much worse than they are, but hopefully it will

:04:14. > :04:20.get a lot of better by the end of today -- a log butter.

:04:21. > :04:24.This is the new road, the water is too deep to let traffic through, but

:04:25. > :04:29.the real problem is here. You can see just how much what -- water

:04:30. > :04:32.there is, so much still coming down stream.

:04:33. > :04:36.OK, let's put all the weather news to one side for now, because Princes

:04:37. > :04:40.William and Harry joined their dad the Prince of Wales at a big meeting

:04:41. > :04:43.in London today to push for more to be done to help protect elephants,

:04:44. > :04:46.rhinos and other endangered animals in Africa. They're calling for

:04:47. > :04:49.tougher action to protect animals from the illegal wildlife trade.

:04:50. > :04:52.Every day, hundreds of elephants are killed for their ivory tusks which

:04:53. > :04:57.are used in traditional medicines in places like China. Prince Charles

:04:58. > :05:01.said there wasn't a moment to lose. They hope to draw up a worldwide

:05:02. > :05:06.deal that will tackle the problem. Last up, to the slopes of Sochi -

:05:07. > :05:09.and we all held our breath watching James Woods in the final of the

:05:10. > :05:13.slopestyle skiing this morning. Check this out.

:05:14. > :05:17.He was one of Team GB's biggest hopes of bringing home gold from the

:05:18. > :05:22.Sochi Games. But it didn't quite go his way. He finished in a pretty

:05:23. > :05:25.decent fifth place though. Whale watching from space? Sounds

:05:26. > :05:31.bizarre, but head to the Newsround website to find out more. I'm back

:05:32. > :05:36.at 6:50. Have a great afternoon and I'll see you then. Bye!
