:00:27. > :00:28.First, nearly 200,000 people in California in America have been

:00:29. > :00:32.told to evacuate their homes because of a big hole in part

:00:33. > :00:38.The Oroville Dam, which is holding back a large lake, has been

:00:39. > :00:41.weakened by heavy rain and, as Ayshah's been finding out,

:00:42. > :00:46.it's an emergency people there have never experienced before.

:00:47. > :00:48.The Oroville Dam is in northern California.

:00:49. > :00:53.It's the tallest in America at 230 metres, which is about the same

:00:54. > :00:58.as 15 double-decker buses stacked on top of each other.

:00:59. > :01:01.A dam is a barrier that's built to hold back water.

:01:02. > :01:04.It can be used to generate electricity, supply homes

:01:05. > :01:11.The Oroville Dam works by collecting rain water in a reservoir or a lake.

:01:12. > :01:13.But there's been heavy rain and snow recently,

:01:14. > :01:19.When something like this happens, an emergency spillway,

:01:20. > :01:22.which looks like a bit like a huge water slide, is used to release some

:01:23. > :01:28.But the heavy rain has damaged the spillway.

:01:29. > :01:33.Emergency teams are worried that the hole could soon cause huge

:01:34. > :01:38.amounts of water to fall into the river running below.

:01:39. > :01:40.This river runs through nearby towns, meaning people who live

:01:41. > :01:46.It's approximately a 30-foot wall of water that would be

:01:47. > :01:48.coming out of the lake, not the lake drain,

:01:49. > :01:53.That is why we took the appropriate measures that we did.

:01:54. > :01:56.Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes.

:01:57. > :01:59.For now, the water levels in the lake have gone down

:02:00. > :02:04.but more rain is expected in the area this week.

:02:05. > :02:06.Straight now to some exciting cricket news

:02:07. > :02:10.because Joe Root has been named as England's Test captain.

:02:11. > :02:13.The Yorkshire batsman was the big favourite to replace Alastair Cook,

:02:30. > :02:31.12-year-old Keelie from Belfast, who's one of the youngest pigeon

:02:32. > :02:37.Hi, I'm Keelie and I'm a pigeon fancier.

:02:38. > :02:44.A pigeon fancier is someone who looks after pigeons and enters

:02:45. > :02:49.It's hard work looking after pigeons.

:02:50. > :02:52.Every day, when I come home from school and on the weekends,

:02:53. > :02:55.I have to clean up, I have to give them fresh water and make sure

:02:56. > :03:02.This is where we keep our champion pigeons.

:03:03. > :03:05.Last year, I won the title of Young Pigeon Fancier of the Year

:03:06. > :03:11.The things you need to look out for in a champion

:03:12. > :03:14.You need to make sure all the feathers are straight.

:03:15. > :03:17.You need to make sure their tail is pointing down to make sure

:03:18. > :03:20.And they need to have baths every week.

:03:21. > :03:23.But I've got to say goodbye for now as I've this year's

:03:24. > :03:41.This is the biggest pigeon show in Europe and this year is extra

:03:42. > :03:44.special because it is the 40th anniversary of the show. Now it is

:03:45. > :04:00.time to find that my pigeons have done. I won! I won! I am in class

:04:01. > :04:16.31. Oh, my God! Unbelievable, so happy! It is a real

:04:17. > :04:19.privilege to have won this award. So much of my hard work and effort has
