:00:00. > :00:12.Hi, I'm Leah, live in Rio with a special World Cup Newsround.

:00:13. > :00:16.So it's begun, the World Cup kicked off with a bang last night.

:00:17. > :00:20.There was a spectacular opening ceremony and host nation Brazil

:00:21. > :00:35.claimed a 3-1 victory over Croatia in the opening match.

:00:36. > :00:38.I was watching that match on the beach with 20,000 others, it was

:00:39. > :00:39.electric. The team have already arrived

:00:40. > :00:44.in Manaus ahead of their first BBC Sport reporter Andy

:00:45. > :00:55.Swiss sent us this report. Welcome to Manaus, it is incredibly

:00:56. > :00:59.hot and incredibly sticky. Really tough conditions for England players

:01:00. > :01:04.when they face Italy tomorrow. Behind me is the stadium, the

:01:05. > :01:07.England players will be training inside their this afternoon. They

:01:08. > :01:12.will get a first look at the pitch, which has come in for some heavy

:01:13. > :01:14.criticism, it is not in good condition, lots of brown streaks

:01:15. > :01:20.across the middle. The ground staff have been trying to improve it, they

:01:21. > :01:23.have been painting the brown bits green to make it look better, it'll

:01:24. > :01:29.be interesting see what the players make of that. Danny Welbeck has been

:01:30. > :01:35.struggling with a thigh injury, if he is not fit it could open the door

:01:36. > :01:40.for Raheem Sterling. They will get plenty of support, despite this

:01:41. > :01:45.being an isolated place. Lots of England fans have made the journey.

:01:46. > :01:49.Italy are tough opponents, they beat England at the European

:01:50. > :01:50.Championships two years ago. The England fans are confident that the

:01:51. > :01:55.journey will be worth it. Let's take a closer look at Manaus,

:01:56. > :01:58.where England will play tomorrow. We already know it's going to

:01:59. > :02:01.be really hot and sticky. That's because it's home to

:02:02. > :02:03.the largest tropical rainforest It's packed with some

:02:04. > :02:08.of the world's rarest plants and animals but people there are worried

:02:09. > :02:24.the forest is under threat because The Amazon. The largest tropical

:02:25. > :02:30.rainforest on earth. Feeding the mightiest river in the world. It is

:02:31. > :02:34.estimated to be home to up to 3 million different species, there is

:02:35. > :02:38.nowhere else like it on the planet. But for years, chopping down trees

:02:39. > :02:45.in the Amazon, a process called deforestation, has made headlines

:02:46. > :02:52.around the world. From 1995 to 2005, an area of forest the size of Wales

:02:53. > :02:56.was cut down every year. We are destroying plants and habitats of

:02:57. > :03:01.animals, which might have nowhere to go, which might run the risk of

:03:02. > :03:06.becoming extinct. It is not that people don't value the forest, it is

:03:07. > :03:14.just people live in that area. These people need to find something that

:03:15. > :03:18.they can make money out of. Over the last decade the Brazilian government

:03:19. > :03:23.have done a lot to control the rate of deforestation. Huge protected

:03:24. > :03:26.areas have been created, farming is monitored and a police force patrols

:03:27. > :03:32.the skies looking for illegal logging. The message is spreading,

:03:33. > :03:35.these kids are learning about the importance of the Amazon through

:03:36. > :03:42.their own conservation work and getting their hands dirty. What do

:03:43. > :03:46.you enjoy most about these classes? TRANSLATION: I can learn about

:03:47. > :03:52.nature and the animals and how to create a safer and more beautiful

:03:53. > :03:55.place to live. We have done a deforestation project to learn how

:03:56. > :04:01.important it is for mankind not to destroy the future of the Amazon and

:04:02. > :04:04.to leave it to our children. The Brazilian government has been

:04:05. > :04:08.praised for slowing the rate of deforestation, but last year, for

:04:09. > :04:14.the first time in five years, has a rise, raising the question once

:04:15. > :04:19.again offered the greatest ecosystem on the planet can be protected --

:04:20. > :04:22.for the first time in five years there has been a rise.

:04:23. > :04:24.The time in Manaus is five hours behind

:04:25. > :04:27.the UK so England's match tomorrow will be on at a super-late 11:00pm

:04:28. > :04:31.You've been telling us whether you'll be having a late night.

:04:32. > :04:36.Chloe in Leicester says, "I'm definitely staying up to watch

:04:37. > :04:43.it, even though it's well past my bedtime!

:04:44. > :04:47.If you really want to know who's going to win England's big game this

:04:48. > :04:50.weekend, don't bother listening to any footy

:04:51. > :04:56.you just need Ronaldo, the Newsround parrot, to predict who will win.

:04:57. > :05:25.So let's have a look and see who his top tip is for tomorrow's match.

:05:26. > :05:41.Oh, dear. I don't think we are going to be best of friends. The party has

:05:42. > :05:46.started up again, people are watching a band on the beach, we are

:05:47. > :05:50.enjoying the light breeze and the sunshine is poking out from the

:05:51. > :05:54.skies. I will be watching England against Italy and bringing you the

:05:55. > :05:58.results over the weekend. If you are loving the World Cup, head to the

:05:59. > :06:00.Newsround website for the latest goals and stories. For now, goodbye

:06:01. > :06:01.from Rio.
